The episode was meant to be a two parter, but it got split between seasons due to procrastination.
They filled in the spot with the Purge episode since it was brainstormed in S1 but was cut.
>they didn't use the kermit version
And their only reference to it would be "whoa haha remember that time I escaped from prison?"
"Haha yeah Rick that was some crazy stuff."
Then they go on for a while about how amazing the escape was and a final battle that happened.
Adventure Time hasn't been popular since the beginning of season 5. TTG is CN's biggest IP right now, no longer is it Adventure Time. This has to tell you something. How can you NOT see the steady decline in quality since then?
>Jerry is assigned to work as a guard at the prison Rick is imprisoned at
>helps break Rick out after a little while of feeling like top dog, but then realizing he hates the job
>rick and morty destroy the galactic empire's death star, peace and freedoms return to Dirt
>get a job Jerry
What if they continue the next season like nothing happened, then in the last episode of the season Rick decides to help an alternate version of himself escape from prison and it was revealed that the entire season happened in C-139 or something.
I don't recall but was there any episode where it was just Rick and Beth teaming up? Seems kinda sad everyone gets to go on duo adventures with Rick except his daughter, who always felt abandoned by him
based Mr. PBH
anyone else not really feel this song was used quite as potently as the songs in other "emotional" R&M endings?
too much dialogue and jokes going on at the same time I guess, breaking up the mood a little
I mean it's still solid
just not on the same level as like... Auto Erotic Assimilation's ending, for example
Jerry trying to break Rick out of prison, even though Rick is the one who put himself there seems like a very Jerry thing to do.
>Alright, Rick, let's go! You're free now!
>Damn it Jerry, I could break out of this hole any time I wanted. I'm a super-genius. I-I can think of a dozen ways to make a bomb out of the stupid prison guard clothes you're wearing right now. I turned myself in so these asshole government drones wouldn't hunt down and torture my daughter and grand-kids into telling where I might be. Or-or did you forget, that your family is in danger as long as the government doesn't know where I am?
>Yeah, right. Now lock me back up. I'd rather be in solitary confinement than have to be around your stupidity for a moment longer.
funny, i was thinking almost the same thing but instead its jerry being so bad at his job that he accidentally releases all the prisoners and all the prisoners end up killing everyone and shit
>that look of disbelief on rick's face
I'm surprised he never considered the possibility that Jerry would sell him out, considering how much both hate each other. I guess Rick was more trusting than I thought.
You know, on second viewing, my favorite part of this episode is the sheer staggering amount of foreshadowing that happens before the wedding.
Almost every line Rick has points to Birdperson being killed.
I think birdperson's death may have been faked. He could have been in cahoots with the galactic federation to round up all his terrorist comrades. His explanation to beth was odd too, even though he claimed to be drunk.
>Rick gives up in almost the same way 1984 ends (the bar scene I mean)
>When the Smith family return to Earth, they find it a 1984-like government
I'm almost sure it's an unintended citation.
>"Everyone I know goes away in the end"
>Looks at picture of Jim Henson
That got too real, man.
Each version is good in it's own way, but I thin NIN's version was the better choice. The instrumentation is more subtle, the chords have more of a hurt feeling to them (note the dissonant in the first chord in NIN's version), and Trent's voice isn't as overpowering. This allows the scene to take the main stage while the song floats around in the back and sets the mood.
This isn't to say that Cash's version is bad, but the reason it works is different from the reason Trent's works. Trent's works because it's simple and subtle whereas Cash's has a more genuine feel to it because of A) his choice of chords (using standard majors and minors and opposed the the deliberately morose chords used by Trent) and B) the worn sound of his voice, seasoned with a genuine feeling of pain from years of hardships which actually make the lyrics fit Cash better than Trent. However, Cash sings the song straight while Trent tries to sound more pathetic by whispering which makes it better for accompanying a scene like Rick's arrest.
If you don't have a logical counter argument to support your claim, then you'll just get a retard anon say "nuh uh, your taste is just shit, cash's version is the better choice because it's a better song and your taste is just shit."
Rick escapes and goes on adventures with Morty while the family is unaware that he's even out. Beth's drinking spirals out of control while Jerry is powerless to help her. Summer starts taking medication for her incontinence and does nothing of importance like always.
Jerry, remember that time you made a strawpoll for a rick and morty thread on /co/ to see which character they liked the most? You started losing the poll because nobody voted for you, so you stayed up all night changing your IP and hitting refresh so you could win, but started crying and fell asleep?
Jerry's basically right for the wrong reasons. Everyone else is too emotionally attached to acknowledge that Rick's behavior has compromised them all, while Jerry is so busy looking for a reason to rally against Rick that he can't acknowledge the good Rick has done for the family.
If Jerry had pitched turning Rick in more honestly, as a suggestion to advise his surrender, nobody would have blamed him.
>Holy crap, I still get PTSD from when Jim Henson died, this just pinged every nerve in the sad parts of my brain like a 30 year old manchild playing pinball.
I still have vivid memories of crying when I heard the news. Both he and a parish priest who was a friend of the family died about the same time, so it was a one two punch for me as a kid.
>Each version is good in it's own way, but I thin NIN's version was the better choice. The instrumentation is more subtle, the chords have more of a hurt feeling to them (note the dissonant in the first chord in NIN's version), and Trent's voice isn't as overpowering.
Yeah. Johnny Cash's voice is just.. amazing and powerful. Would have been too much for the scene.
> no Mr Poopybutthole
> that filename
Explicitly, no, implicitly maybe.
The Council was made so that Ricks could group together to act against their enemies, which probably implicitly includes the federation. Multiple ricks care about multiple forms of the federation, but prior to that the other federations don't care about each other beyond cooperative capacity.
>Though I do think Earth being part of the Federation will be permanent.
Yeah, Harmon and Roiland said season three would be very different from the first two, and that could be what they referred to.
its probably her voice actor.
Aspiration: Season 3 opens with a one hour special
A Plot: Beth fall apart after returning to earth, losing her job and becoming constantly drunk and cynical like her father. Morty and drunk Beth try to use everything they know and find about Rick, particularly using information and finding people from previous episode, to put together a plan to break him out, learning a bit about his past in the process.
B Plot: Rick is hooked up to a device that dives into his brain and memories to extract information and reprogram him. After Rick drives a long series of seasoned interrogators to suicide, Tammy dives in, leveraging what she has learned about him and his past from Birdperson. Memories are interposed with relevant present day interactions by Beth and Morty in the A Plot.
C Plot: Due to being known as the man who turned in Rick (not to mention being a generally spineless worm who has never had an original thought in his life), Jerry gets put in a place of power within the galactic government on earth. This puts him at odds with his family, so he'll end up trying to make things right in the end. He will probably fuck it all up wonderfully such that no alien will even touch earth again, setting the stage to a return to the status quo.
D Plot: Summer goes full Red Dawn after her high school gets turned into a Disney-eque hospitality services training ground by the Galactic Government to cater to the hordes of alien tourists
>even in fan art she is jerryface with a ponytail
if there were ever a time for artist creative liberties its to change this one thing
unless of course manface is some peoples things
as far as fan ideas go, it was an intentional design choice to show the family ties between the chracters
i think it was just the fact that the characters were designed poorly and it was easy to sameface
whatever the case, it makes r34 difficult to find appealing of her
Damn. I thought of that, as well and I could see that happening. But if that's the case, the original Rick of this dimension must've done some brutal stuff...compared to our rick, at least.
I wanted to make my own thread but there are too many already
assuming characters don't use hair dye
summer more than likely isn't jerry's kid
lets look at genetics
blond hair is a recessive trait to brown, black, and red therefore beth has to be sporting a double blonde allele gene to get blonde hair.
jerry has brown hair, this means he has one dominate allele for brown hair at the least.
joyce smith, jerry's mother is sporting some blonde hair therefore she has a double allele for the blond hair gene and jerry therefore has at least one of those alleles
the children that can result from beth and jerry's mating based on a simple punnett square would result in only brown haired and yellow haired children.
Bb X bb =/= R
unless a genetic mutation with less than a 1% chance of occurring happened jerry's paternity is in question
jerry got cucked into a marriage with his dream girl that wishes the guy that actually knocked her up was man enough to take responsibility because then she had to take the only guy desperate enough not to ask questions or for a paternity test when a baby with red hair popped out.
how do you think summer and jerry are going to take this when it's revealed in season 3, and that rick knew the entire time.
has this already been talked about or is everyone just ignoring it?
>THERE'S ANOTHER VERSION OF HURT AND I KNOW ABOUT IT, THAT MAKES ME SPECIAL
>THE JOHNNY CASH VERSION MUST BE BETTER BECAUSE HE'S OLDER AND I GUESS WAS REALLY INFLUENTIAL OR SOMETHING BEFORE I WAS BORN?
reddit as fuck hipsters can go
Beth is going to be the one that saves Rick. Beth is the one that made the speech that got Rick to fuck off. Morty has already become Rick-ified and Summer still doesn't vibe with Rick too well. Beth has to resolve those daddy issues and Rick has to grow a heart for one of his family members that he doesn't seem to care about.
Are we forgetting this lose end?
Morty joins up with the Empire and tries to eradicate all Ricks through out all dimensions.
I'd toss scrambled eggs all over her face
>making logical arguments for purely subjective opinions
>implying a retard anon wouldn't shit on you anyway
>>76437772y point was the fact that rick lives where rick is. who's to say before cronenburg world universe he was in a universe where he never left beth? maybe she (or the whole family) died and he came to that universe to keep the status quo. rick loves the people he loves no matter which universe he's in.
Yeah a cartoon show that has science fiction pop culture stretching from the 1950's to now with bits of hard science theoretical science and just silly dark humor and who's initial concept for the first season was a cross between Back to the Future and Doctor Who and considering how nostalgia cycles work every thirty years Who would never think this show could be clever enough to have a 1984 reference right, Jerry?
Pretty much this.
Had a similar discussion about Big Iron, comparing the original used in New Vegas to the very tonally different Cash cover.
His version would just overpower and distract rather than support any story it was set to accompany.
The chords are simplified and the vocals are clear and powerful, so it becomes this completely engaging experience of a man sitting you down and telling you a story. And for that reason, these songs just can't really work as an accompaniment for a different man trying to tell you a different story. It'd just become two people talking into either ear at once, to where you can't quite hear either of them.
With the more theatrical vocals and complex chords, the NIN version is engaging on a more subtle musical level, where you can certainly enjoy the words but they're only one part of the whole. And the fact that they can be either enjoyed or just as easily overlooked makes them a great accompaniment to someone else's story that the lyrics relate to, but aren't directly telling. The same way this sort of music is great at letting people drift through their own emotions and experiences.
It's music that pulls you along through the singer's story vs music that invites you to experience whatever story you happen to hear.
Both are great artistic experiences, both are incredibly different.
I prefer the Marty Robbins to the Cash version, but I'm a sucker for oldschool gunslinger ballads as compared to whatever it is that Cash sings. He's great but not for that song.
>The only time Bird Person's voice ever showed emotion was moments before the new love of his life betrayed him
It's raining, /co/.
anyone else here glad that the jew-fuck birdfaggot died?
i was so happy when he got shot multiple times. it was glorious. that piece of shit, i hated him since the first time that arrogant fuck opened its beak.
I wasn't around during the purging episode but
what was /co/'s general reaction to it
Says a gun owner who's never been shot.
You like guns. That's fine. Some people feel strong without a fake metal penis in their hand.
Quick question though. Is it bigger than your dad's? How much of a factor was that in your purchase?
>ReBoot: The Guardian Code follows the adventures of four typical teens whose lives are upgraded in a big way, when they discover they are next-gen Guardians - super cool heroes that stream into cyberspace so they can defend humanity from deadly computer viruses and malware.
Rick is king, but Summer easily edges out Morty for the "next" best character. Her relationship with Rick is more dynamic and amusing than the one between Rick and Morty; she's more individualistic and possessed of a distinct personality; she isn't a stuttering little dweeb shunted around solely as a living cloaking device (or, realistically, because the writers recognise that a "stupid" and awkward sidekick for a character like Rick is better for comedy and audience surrogation).
In the episode with Unity when the race war over nipples started and Morty lifted his shirt it took me a second to realize why Summer didn't too and said they're just going to have to trust them.
I think I'm getting jaded to what this show goes to. Like, that right there was the limit. That's the line they won't cross.
At the beginning of season 3, Rick will
be completely dead sober.
You're 24, yet your response to an actual argumentative point is "YOU'RE FAGGOT" and then you praise your own insult like a middle-schooler. You're either in a Tiny Rick situation where you actually are 24 years old and stuck in a childs body. Or you are a fucking Sperg justifying your piss fetish
>Which one was your favorite moment?
The whole sequence of Rick & Summer getting ripped as fuark and beating the shit out of the Devil, as well as the after credits when they just start beating the shit out of people they don't like.
>mfw She-Hulk Summer
Pretty sure one of the many other government bodies in the universe will spring Rick out of Federation jail, simply to get their hands on him. He's made how many enemies? Even the Council of Ricks could probably free him, if only to put him on trial for the destruction of another universe.
Tell me about it, holy crap. I mean, /co/ hates comics, /tv/ hates television/movies, and /v/ hates video games, but they at least talk about their respective subjects, mostly, tangentially. /mu/ though... just wtf happened there? Holy God, it's an atrocity. They're the board equivalent of Stephen King's wastelands in the Dark Tower series.
I liked the Baltar and Head Six guest appearance. Instantly recognizable visually and audibly.
>There are 7 other Rick and Morty threads up.
I read that as 7 other Rick and Mortys. of course there's a lot more than 7 of them. The conclusion to season 2 could be a footnote in the continuity of one of the other versions of them.
I see I'm not the only one that thought that.
for real?? the gap between season 1 & 2 wasn't that long! God, this is Venture Brothers all over again! When will I get my moderately mature cartoons to tell me how to grow up before civilization collapses and it's too late for me?? I don't know what to do. O-oh!
>How can you NOT see the steady decline in quality since then?
because it's subjective and I'm not you.
Isn't that what art theory is? Yeah, let's not analyze culture.
I think Rick could see the wisdom in limiting the freedoms of stupid people, but would know that without being moderately applied it would lead to exploitation. like the government telling him he can't be all that he can be outside the confines of a system not meant for people like him.
I think Morty's not stupid, he's just inexperienced and fearful. Rick sees great potential in him and wants to nurture it, but knows there's a danger if untempered, giving confidence to such an insecure personality can lead to evil Morty. I think part of the reason he keeps Morty in check is because he's afraid of that potential, because it hypothetically could rival his own. That business about canceling fields is more than just about cloaking detection. It's about fundamental psychological opposites.
Summer's the more fun sidekick. Morty's the light-hearted simple one that hints at taking a 180 tonal shift. Didn't someone say Morty's purging was actually a reoccurring pattern?
>Rick sees great potential in him and wants to nurture it
Not really, he saw great potential in his own Morty before he abandoned him. Now he's just trying to turn Morty into the Morty he left behind.
I feel Beth gets left out a lot, even Jerry had more Rick time than she did. I think they're going to confront that in season 3 since Rick's always leaving her behind even 20 years later.
I think the joke was that almost every food we eat is either made of corn, or eats corn its self. corn basically runs our planet.
Also, it's scary to me in the sense that everything will eventually become cobs on that planet.
tfw I remember saying that line before I became a tripfag and then some anon decided to draw a R&M version. It felt really good. Too bad archive.moe has lost it forever. And it was on a R&M 9/11 thread too.
>Rick sobers up due to prison
>He's full operator mode, smooth as fuck, perfect at everything
>Once the coast is (relatively) clear, he goes back to drinking because he's miserable
I'd like to see this
>family rescues him
>in a gravely tone that doesn't sound like Rick at all he says "get me a drink. Now."
My hope is that for a few episodes he acts like he did in the pilot, like full on crazy drunk scientist again
He was just saying that if you go to where ice cream is and don't come back then you've just gone to where ice cream is, you haven't gone to get ice cream. Like if you went to a grocery store but didn't come back with groceries you didn't get the groceries, you just went to where they are.
You just replaced ice cream with groceries. I still think it means something more though, like maybe if you go to find happiness and don't come back happy, you weren't really looking for happiness in the first place, you were just going where it was
>disabling the reproductive system
>not just letting it fly back to Gazorpazorp with your intellectually superior, yet still fully aggressive spawn
>not slowly letting your own seed conquer Gazorpazorp- fully prescient half-humans finally breaking into cunt city and wrecking everything
>First sign of trouble
His entire life was uprooted through no fault of his own. Along with his entire family.
You would have absolutely no reservations about casting away your entire life, dreams, and comfort over something in which you had no say? Really?
jesus christ you are an idiot.
and you suck at explaining
When Morty asks if he is coming back, Rick explains that it is implied by saying "get ice-cream" that he will be coming back, because getting something means going, taking it and coming back.
Rick knew he was lying, and that Morty caught up to it. Rick's weird phrasing was just a comedic deconstruction of the phrase, and the way we use language.
Basically he wated Morty to think he would come back, and he got annoyed at hi8m not picking up on his language queues, se he started deconstructing the phrase on the spot.
I'm very fun at parties
This. While Jerry still managed to sound like a little bitch while saying it, his reasoning was completely justified. Even Rick agreed with him for Christ sakes, I don't know why people are shitting on him for wanting a normal life with his family.

I'd love the chance to sire an entire sub-species of warriors. My grandchildren's children will write GREEK MYTHS about me.
Since they used Hurt by NIN, I feel like they're gonna play Creep by Radiohead at some point in this show. And here is the best cover of that song for anyone whos never been on the internet before. Its a homeless man singing it fyi.

>Tune into Rick and more season three in like a year and a half. Or Longer
>mfw it gets cancelled after that melodramatic ending
>implying the federation hasn't already confiscated Rick's inventions while they were in space
I don't know, if I was a federation hunting a wanted scientist, that's what I would do...
I wish someone cool like Rick would notice me and take me on trips sometimes and put up with me for a while. It's too big a job for a retard to fix himself. I'm too old to be pampered. My parents were always too stupid to help even if they mean well. like Jerry and Beth. Makes me think I'm just not worth it outside the biological bond formed from parent-child. I want someone to recognize the fire in my eyes, and then to unleash it. It might be nice just to bask in that acknowledgement, but that would be hollow.
Oh, I didn't realize Justin wasn't Rick & Morty. I didn't realize some level of angst wasn't part of the show like it regularly is at least twice a season.
and I'm saying you guys get really particular about what you think a show "is" in your interpretation and get really upset when some episodes don't match those expectations, that somehow it no longer is the show. It's like you apes never learned of the simple exercise of E-Prime. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-Prime Maybe consider that some things aren't.
