>>931265 I would suggest looking at ana-white.com A lot of books don't deliniate machinery, because a lot can be done multiple ways. eg tablesaw/bandsaw/handsaw can all cut tenons well. if you're careful, pretty much everything you do on a drill press can be done by hand (just with more inaccuracy and difficulty). Hell, there is no woodworking that was invented after the invention of electricity that can't be done entirely with hand tools.
I once built a gate to keep the dogs outside and it took me 2 hours because I was using a handsaw to cut green heart lumber. After getting a shitty ryobi 5 1/2" cordless power saw another gate for a larger door literally takes less than 30 mins. While I enjoy using a hand saw it can get tedious when making multiple cuts of the same size in a hardwood
Hello everyone. I want to know how to make grow-in-water toys. I have experience using silicone and resin and I have a 3d printer to work with. I already have the matrix for the toy, but I don't really know wich material I must use and how. I can't find any intructions of making it and wikipedia says they are made from a superabsorbent polymer, but doesn't say wich one. My only source says they are maded of polyacrylonitrile, ethylene glycol and glycerol, but -again- doesn't say how to combine them.
>>931238 Simplest option: get an LED which does this automatically. One component, done. They aren't even expensive. More complex option: get an RGB led, drive R/G/B suitably. You can use a microcontroller to produce the dimming patterns.
Ok my dad went full retard.. Got metallic paint (he doesn't know how to paint anyway) He used silver metallic paint and sprayed it in the dining room. Creating a fine mist of the fairy herpes on steroids. On my phone, on the flat screen. And the worst part is this stuff STICKS.. its still freaking paint and know every time I rest my hand on something I look like I'm from twilight. Worst part is the ceiling fan launched it like an ICBM all around the house. What should I do /diy/?
This is my first /diy/ thread so forgive me if it's not good format. My brother and I were thinking about how we could make a catamaran by ourselves using pvc pipe as the outriggers and some sort of metal or wood frame and a sail. We did some displacement calculations and the size/amount of pvc we would need wouldn't be cost effective. Any ideas of other ways to make a catamaran? Pic related, found on internet
>>931142 Yeah, I've had this on my possible project list for a while. Basically, the best/most cost effective design is >>931274, but with skin on frame. you can build a skin on frame design for <$100 in parts, it's some pine wood, cloth (canvas is heavy, but cheap and works (from painter's dropcloths) but nylon is better, will be most expensive though), twine, staples/needle/thread, and a sealer. I've heard good results from deck sealers. Use mortise and... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
what the fuck are you trying to do here? a light switch? so what is this? at a guess, power cable, switch cable and lamp cable? you need 4 terminals, not 3. all cpc (earth) together line (brown or red) from power goes to switch (brown or red) switch (blue or black) (wrap a bit of brown electrical tape around the wire) goes to bulb (brown or red) bulb (blue or black) goes to power (blue or black) box is plastic so it doesn't need to be earthed.
blues should be nowhere near the red if the red is power feed you have the bulb and the switch... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>931115 from the looks of it he will kill himself long before he can hurt anyone else. i'm assuming he is from the uk based on the monged up 'harmonised' colouring. its fucking 1.30am here and he is playing with the lighting? hope you have plenty of torch batteries op
Hi /diy/, coming here from /o/. I bought this decal awhile ago and was super excited when it finally came in after a month or so of waiting. When I try to take off the transfer paper the decal doesn't come off with it, it stays stuck on the notecard/backing thing. Any possible way to get this off or am I completely boned? :(
>>931103 you're going to have to peel back at the hardest angle you can, almost 180 degrees while using a ruler or something to keep the transfer paper flat. its a fucking pain in the dick. I'd be mad as fuck, either they used a shitty transfer paper or the wrong type of vinyl, because automotive vinyl is not very sticky.
>>931120 Yeah, I'm not the only one who waited forever for one either. 3 or 4 other people are having the same problem right now. You think i could use a credit card like you would normally do trying to get it on an actual surface to get it to stick to the transfer paper if that doesn't work?
How do I clean this white stuff off of my helmet? Rubbing alcohol only smudges it around. Water doesn't seem affect it. I may have seen some small crystals on my helmet around the areas where the smudges are, so that might be what it is.
Anyone oxidized wood here? My wife wants furniture like pic related, but I have all the tools and saws needed to make them myself. Saving a few hundred dollars per piece and picking up an old hobby sounds good to me.
Anyway, we've got some steel wool in a jar with vinegar sitting right now, but I'm wondering if any of you have experience or tips that could come in handy.
>>931094 Use a sponge brush. Apply it uniformly and liberally. After a few minutes wipe it off with a paper towel so it finishes uniformly. Flat surfaces that collect the vinegar can get darker than vertical surface that drain.
Most importantly test it on scrap pieces of wood from your project. I made a coffee table out of some cheap 2x10 d.fir surfaced perfectly smooth and after three or four applications it was a deep rich ebony like color.
Maple goes to a maximum of light grey while mahogany will go jet black.
