Hello. I have a translucid telephone cable that is sticky right now. Two years ago I cleaned it with isopropilic alcohol, but it's sticky again... There is a way to cure it from this syndrome?

Stop letting your dozens of cats piss all over it.
I don't have cats. Appears that the translucid material is degrading... Like old rubber band...
unfortunately no, you got shitty pvc insulation

Hey /diy/!

I have this LCD screen at home (pic related) that I wanna connect to my PC as a second monitor.
The model is HannStar HSD070I651, I have no panel for it, nothing. Just the plain screen, that orange connector (26 pins), and a power cord (2 pins).
I found this spec but I've no idea what to do with it.

Where can I get a controller for it, to connect it to my PC? tried googling but didn't get much out of it.

This appears to be what you are looking for, although that resolution would be pretty bad for a secondary display. 480x234
hmmm you are correct, just read the specs, the resolution is pretty bad

thanks tho! I'll see what I can make out of this, or just drop the idea.
Meh, you could make a side screen showing system parameters like temps and voltages, twitter feeds, or other real time info you might like to display. I can't find it but some dude built a 5" CRT into the front of his case for just this reason. He did need to code up a solution to retrieve and pipe that data out, but it's not outside the realms of possibility.

Tamper resistant/security hex head. You can get a driver that will fit from most hardware stores, usually in a box with a shitload of other security driver bits (torx, tri-wing, torq-set, spanner head, polydrive and so on)
Alternatively, jam a flathead into it and snap the security pin out.

Then you can use an ordinary allen key.

Tamper proof security bit, you can pick up packs of driver heads that have a bunch of weird security heads in em for like $10, and imo its totally worth it.

So I bought a fairly moderately decrepit victorian property cheap because I was sick of renting and had visions of learning a bunch of new skills and having something productive to put my resources towards. I was also sick of renting and basically thought that it was one way to drastically change the direction of my life within the next 10 years compared to the path I was previously on.

It has been approximately 18 months and in that time I have ..

At the moment I feel physically and mentally ruined. With my current job taking up 40+ hours a week every free moment is basically carrying out DIY and because I'm time short and need to do it around working I can't undertake massive work without taking time off which means my relationship is suffering because I've never any time, money or inclination to take a holiday or even socialise much. My girlfriends optimism is quickly turning into generally being resentful of life, but then she IMO isn't holding up her end of the deal by also growing and changing...

Anyway, I guess I'm just venting. Basically the problem is.

>Tackle jobs as they appear due to being urgent.
Tends to be a huge waste of time and money because you repeat work like cleaning, decorating and disposing of waste a bunch of times because jobs lead to other jobs.

>Tackle one or two major jobs a year lumped together in some sort of priority, IE roof alongside guttering and fascias, soffits, barge boards, pointing due to having scaffolding up.
Costs pretty much 90% of my income after...

Urghh I'm just venting I guess. I think this would be easier if I had someone else on my side.

My gf can't understand why I'm not decorating the 1960's decor upstairs because I'm like we aren't decorating until the roof is done because the ceiling is water damaged and will need ripping down and replacing or boarding over and I'm not doing that until I'm ready to fit central heating in this room because of the mess and I'm not doing that until the floor comes up which isn't happening until I rewire and I'm not doing...

Hi /diy/ I'm getting into PPG and I've found there is no such thing as a handheld fuel gauge. I was wondering if I could scavange my old scuba diving pressure gauge and do something with it. Any thoughts? Looks like pic related.

You will have issues getting a reliable reading, as the tanks tend to be small (in volume) and prone to fluid level changes due to flight attitude.

Most light aircraft, the fuel gauge is a suggestion at best, and fuel remaining is based on knowing the volume of fuel consumed at the desired power setting.

Use a watch.
Basically to do this : I have 5 liters and engine consumes 3.2 liters at 7000rpm/h. i have a little more than one hour. Is that it?
Basically, except you have ~1 hour of total op, so your radius is 25 minutes with a 5 minute cushion.

Think flight time, and not fuel time.
Even though you're in a paraglider, you don't want to go wetfoot or hug a tree, because you thought you had a few more ml of fuel.

Okay guys, im trying to reconnect my old old old seagate hard drive to my computer again.

i connected the 2 big connectors, but the 4-pin connector is missing. so im tihnking this ons is needed since windows cant find the hard drive.

any ideas?

my seagate is simular to the upper hard drive on the picture

feel free to post your own tech issues too.

the 4 pins on the 2.5" drive and the 8 pins on the 3.5" drive are designed to be used with jumpers.
They activate settings on the drive and are also used by the OEM for debugging purposes.

If both SATA connectors are attached and Windows is not finding the drive, the logical conclusion is that the drive isn't working.

If you can hear it spin up, then that means the drive is getting enough power. If you hear continuous clicking, then the drive isn't getting enough power and you're probably also getting blue screens in Windows.
You connect the sata power cable on the right and the sata data cable next to it.
If it doesn't show up then either you are retarded or it's fucked.
The bottom drive on your picture has an 8 pin connector on the right, you don't need to worry about that. If the 2.5" has a similar 4 pin connector ignore that too.
In the olden days you used to have to tell a hard drive how to behave on the channel but now computers are a little bit smarter they work it out themselves, often incorrectly meaning...

Probably the most pathetic product I have ever seen.
Has anyone tested it? Does it actually reach ultrasonic frequency? I would be very impressed actually if it did.

I'll try cleaning two equally dirty coins in soapy water with it as a test (one in that piece of engineering shit and one just soaked in a cup)
i wont be able to test if it emits any useful ultrasonic sound wave tho, but i hardly doubt it.
even if they can generate some, degrading the power from the batteries will affect it.

Alright guys, I have a problem. I'm trying to fix an old turntable I just picked up. The problem is, when you switch it to 45, it stops moving. This is the only real obvious problem I could find. These little horseshoe things are on the board that goes to the drive motor. And it looks like one is broken. Can anyone help me identify what these are or if this could be the problem? I'v exhausted all my google-fu and I'm not up to registering on some obscure forum right now.

You're on the money anon, that would be the speed adjust potentiometer for the 45rpm drive. The other would be for 33. And yes, it's fucked, the crack has broken the circuit path.

You'll need it's value to replace it. Have a close look. Do you see any numbers stamped on it? You may need to desolder it and have a look at the other side.
Oh shit, thanks anon. I'll take a look tomorrow, this was my last ditch effort before going to bed, diy is usually pretty slow. I'll post an update tomorrow if I find anything interesting. Goodnight!
Matter of fact, the one alongside looks kinda fucked as well, the center of the wiper appears to be out of alignment with the body of the trimmer. Might be worth replacing both if you're restoring this beastie.

How calibrate a VCR?

I have a Daewoo model SD-7500, and already try cleaning the head, but I still having problems with a video tape: in this tape the image jumps, I try clicking with the keywords "+" and "-" in my remote control to better the image, but don't works.

The vide tape seems clean without that withe thing:

Have you tried with a second tape? And do you have an osilliscope? Cuz you'll need one if you want to run an align.
tapes that were recorded wrong can't be played back right

This only happen with this tape in particular

Nope, I don't have that.

I found this screws and I discover if I move more or less, the image change and too the audio, but I can't find the combination right to this video tape.

Just made a super strong and sturdy workbench that breaks down into almost no space in a matter of seconds

2 sheets of 2' x 4' x .75" ply glued together
2 2x4s about 4' long
2 sawhorses (the kind with the slots for taking 2x4s, rated for 1000 lbs)

7 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.

You didn't really make anything. You just bought two saw horses and put wood on top of them, which is, ya know, the point of saw horses.

>see thread
>is that just a piece of wood ontop of some saw horses?
>read thread

Not to mention that those are the shitty cheap sawhorses that bend and break if you even look at them.

I'd bump it up to a 4/10 if you used real sawhorses.

General question, but do y'all work fast or slow? I'm a slow, methodical worker and that got me in a little trouble when I did painting, but I've found it helps me just in general. I do things right the first time instead of just rushing it.

What about y'all?

I usually work really slow up until a deadline approaches then I work fast to finish at the last moment possible without being late
>implying you can't do things correctly and fast
I'm fast and do it right the first time because I'm not a useless sob like op

Fucks sake anon..

don't step in horse shit and you will be fine.
you're fine.
It's really hard to say how long tetanus shots last for.
Last decade they said "5 years".
Nowadays they say "10 years".
Wouldn't be surprised if in 2020 they decided that Tetanus shots last 15 years.

Possible, yes. Probable, no.

remove the film underneath and there is adhesive.
stick the plate on and its more solid, as these are modular, the can be taken apart.

you should have asked this in /ohm/ or something.
very silly to make a thread about it.
