No watch thread??
What are we, animals??
>why am i poor edition
You don't have to be a richfag to enjoy a great watch anon.
But why did they delete them?
I'm /fa/ but untill recently, didn't knew much about watches and didn't use them out off fear they would crash my outfit. I have learn so much here.
The dudes on g have no style. :'-(
Feel the same.
>don't kill the watchthreads mods
>The dudes on g have no style.
So true. All they seem to be capable of posting is shitty Seiko automatics and diving watches. They only care about the movements in the watch.
It's like buying a Ferrari and then only caring about the engine.
I literally put zero thought into what I wear other than my shoes and my watch.
I have a collection of shirts with animal faces on them and unless I'm going to a formal occasion these are the only shirts I ever wear.
I got bashed for having a shitty McJob last thread. But the time has came and I found a new job. Looking to buy a watch with my first pay cheque (not the whole of my pay cheque) I'm thinking about the seiko sarb033. Can anybody else make some recccomendations for less then $400
I have looked at the guide. I was just wanting to know what some others would suggest. I think I'll get the sarb. Seems to be the best value for my limited budget. I would also like to commend you for being so helpful to others in these threads
>I got bashed for having a shitty McJob last thread. But the time has came and I found a new job.
THAT WAS ALL I EVER WANTED FOR YOU, ANON.
IDK why the other thread derailed after suggesting you find a better job. I used to work at McDonald's too. Congrats.
>calling me out cause I didn't push the same key twice
>thinks he can state what's effay
Keep walking anon, I'm sure there are some other threads you'll like more.
Haha, I appreciate it man. I was probably partly to blame for the it degenrating. I am, well I guess was so bitter at the fact I couldn't find another job, but the time has come, it's decent money so I'll be looking forward to adding a nice piece to hopefully the start of a very nice watch collection
it's okay, I have a loud enough personality to pull it off
If you can find a Rolex for $100, yes.
If you're talking about a hundred dollar Rolex replica, I've had 40 year old unlubed slavshit that's higher quality than those. non-shit reps start at $250.
Because of the lack of outer railway for the second hand to properly point, that chronograph is utterly useless.
If were you I either buy a vintge like /g/ suggested. >>9466650 Or I'll buy a modern one but without chrono, just like the King's.
Way cheaper also.
Most people are right handed so manufacturers designed them inorder to allow the wearer to wind the watch by spinningthe crown without taking it off, and that became the rule. Also, in the left, the right handed people didn't bash their watches that often thus, surviving better.
not necessarily changing the time since that's not often something you do on a regular basis, but winding it.
I think the main reason is just so you're not dragging it all over the paper while you write.
The quality feels really solid and the winding seems sturdy.
Only thing I dislike is how it's a lil hard go read the time around the 6 and 12 bc of how they are placed in w/ the big numerals
currently wearing this. havent had any complaints.
I bought the following 3 in the same day. I love the CK one because I can make it a pocket watch.
Alright, sorry :( I just thought the other thread was dead.
i'm getting this and nobody can stop me
i have the dashing good looks to pull it off
checked em. Also it's bigger than it should be. People have said mine is bigger so yours would be way bigger for your wrist. Also let's get bullied together about our MK watches.
I'll miss getting bullied since I'm getting a Hamilton soon.
Oh I see what you mean. I guess it is then, but I just like how it looks, besides, aren't big watches like invicta's trendy at the moment?
Regardless of that I just think it looks nice :)
Why would we be bullied about MK? I'm new to /fa/ those were my first 3 post.
Don't get out. Stay and learn, you're welcome either way.
Sadly, fashion brands watches are among the shittiest of qualitys you'll find. It's better if you keep yourself in the only watch kinda brands, the ones that doesn't make anything else and depend on their reputation. Quartz or mechanical is your choice and your choice only.
Ohh, I see. Well I guess that makes sense, the chef is not going to tell the surgeon how to make a cut.
From personal experience, the designer brand watches have never failed me and they are very pretty IMO.
Regarding brands that only make watches, any not 'Rolex' expensive ones that are awesome looking?
I always recomend Citizen and Seiko as great entry levels. If you are willing to drop up to a bit more than a grand you could get a Longiness, a Frederique Constant, etc... Some people here have a Cerberus for half that, etc...
It depends on how much would you like to spend.
And I would also like to know if this one is considered too big. This one feels just fine to me.
If you put it back your ulna (wristbone) it won't look that big, I hope. Probably acceptable then.
However, 300-500 usd won'tmakethe cut for a Frederique Constant unless is secon hand.(used)
Hamilton, Tissot (the good ones) Cerberus among others are in this price rage.
I always like a little quirk in my watches. I'm not a fan of the brand because IMO you should never buy a watch from a company not mainly known for watch manufacturing...
But I do like the crown position. Hands could be longer and it looks like it'd be pretty big. Otherwise I think it looks nice m8, no hate from me.
You buy a watch for you. Fuck everyone in this thread who says otherwise.
I just googled it, it says it is 48mm but, although I'm new to fashion in general, I really think it looks great, even on my small wrist, unlike the first Michael Kors I posted, which, surprisingly, it is listed as a 48mm watch too.
Currently have a terrorist watch and wanted to upgrade to first semi-real watch.
Thoughts on this?
I believe Swatch manufactures them so they could just as well be Tissots or something. You are right about pocket watches though, they have absolutely no place in todays fits, no matter of the occasion.
"Maybe if I bag on PM Rolexes on this anonymous forum, I will feel better about being about to afford one in 3 lifetimes."
How do I get this watch or anything close that doesn't cost 60k?
How does it feel to know Apple is going to sell more of their solid gold watches than Rolex will in 2015? I'm talking their $4,000 model.
It's going to blow up in China. Apple products are already the most choice gift amongst the wealthy there. Giving them a chance to flex their wealth even more is going to make the Apple Watch Edition the best selling luxury watch ever.
You know, that's actually not nearly as bad as I thought. I'm not a pocket watch kind of dude myself, but I know a guy who's got the mindset of getting multiple purpose items (Even if it's a little fedoraish), and who could actually make some good use of a watch like that, plus he doesn't really care much about the watch afficionado mentality around watch maker watches, so I think something like this as a gift would really lift his spirits. Thanks bro.
Because they should cost a lot less for what they are worth. It's just the brand that makes them 200$+. I mean sure if you like it ok go for it just don't post it on watch threads because the watch enthusiasts will bully u. At least the bitches like MK right?
That makes sense too. I don't really think I'm paying for the quality but for the design itself.
I, for one, would never EVER buy a Rolex, not even for the social status factor, because I find every single Rolex ugly.
Not that good BFYB given the movement, but apparently outstanding overall quality given the price.
I handled a Breitling Superocean Heritage the other day. I was so disappointed. The bezel was awful. It literally felt like my Invicta 9937 OB.
In black it doesnt do anything for me either, the blue in person however is really subtle and stunning when in the right light with the sunburst. For around 1k, I like this alot more than the competition
Too bad about the cut off numbers.
Lawyerfag here again.
So /fa/, before I went on my escape-from-the-fucking-cold-weather vacations that landed me on a on a nice, warm beach in Mexico's littoral, an anon asked me to post a better picture of my Chronometré Bleu and he was right, since my prior ones were taken with a cellphone and were shit; so, there you go:
(I should mention again that the profound and complex manner the light reflects on this extremely beautiful dial makes it a nightmare to properly photograph.)
This second pic is a bit twiked on lightroom because I wanted to emphasize the deepness of the dial that actually lets you see anoyher "layer" of blue, in wich the indexes are reflected like if it were wrotten in the bottom of water mirror you are seeing from above.
Those lines across the dial are there only because my messing around in the computer, but no really on the watch. (sorry about the poor quality of the pics, but I was in hurry with bad light and I even borrowed my gf silk scarf for the background.)
Also, there is another reason I'm posting again, and, belive it or not, it's because /fa/ actually delivered, in the form that I came in knowledge of a brand and specific model here that had flew off my radar everywhere else and, if it weren't for the anons here on 4chan, I would have never bought. So, thank you, -trully- you folks are awesome.
After seeing the watch I contacted the maker and started negotiations; it turned out the entire production was completely sold out a while ago -like anons told me-, except for one that a client kept on hold for a very, very long time but didn't actually bought it (due to the price probably).
The cost was indeed a bit too high of what I initially expected but I do belive the quality of the finished product justifies the pricetag and since the maker and I had become friedns and, amazingly, we were both members of another watch community, he offer me a discount either way. ;-)
So, with out any further interruption, here is my new Maison Celadon Imperial Red Special Edition.
Thanks dude. It's an exceptinally deep guilloché pattern. Most guillochés are trully beautiful, but a very few are as deep as this one. (For what I have seen, there are probably at least on and a half milimeters between the bottoms ant tops of the engraving.
HAHAHA chill m8. There is still lots of time in our lifes.
Also, althought I'm not exactly sure wich, since I got the Special Edition I can tell you there are only seven OR fourteen of this around the world, but I think it's seven.(7 for the red dial and 7 for the white dial.) :-)
The special part?
The bridges of the balance wheel and the escapement are madeof yellow gold and beautifully engraved. (sorry about the ultrshitty quality pic)
Calm down dude. I'm glad you like Maison Celadon but there are lots of other great watches out there. However, Celadon is currently making new models with other
engraving patterns so thre is still a chance to get one.
Hey /fwatcha/ (it's /fa/ + watch ex d)
I need advice
So it's been going pretty well for me lately and I have some disposable income and I've decided to get my dad a watch as a gift My budget is around the 3kUSD mark.
My current consideration is the Cartier Tank Solo - plz give opinions.
General guidelines would be that it should be elegant, clean and not too flashy
Thanks in advance.
The Tank is a nice watch, but your budget place it in the quartz version rage so you might want to rethink your choice or drop another grand. I don't have anything against quartz but I do belive that paying more than a grand for a simple steel two hands quartz is paying exclusively for the name on the dial and nothing else. :-(
(Unless you're getting it in the grey market, in wich case I strongly advice you tomake sure about its authenticity and if its good then go ahead.)
Still, great to see other folks showing love to their dads. I got mine a Rolex President in whit gold. :-)
Never heard abput this brand. Why do you want it anon? What differences it from other choices?
I don't know my watches that well so I really appreciate the advice m80 - if you don't mind me asking, what mechanism would I be getting if I dropped the extra grand?
Also that Rolex President (assuming I looked up the correct model) is stunning, but it's definitely too much for me atm.
I'm not totally sure but I think you'll get the Caliber 049 from Cartier, wich is an ETA based movement BUT unique to Cartier since they hold the propietary modification pattent. Not a bad movement at all.
Btw, I found you a link from a shop based in New York with a nicer price for a mechanical one. You can get the bracelt reference first and then bought him the strap and propietary clasp for a couple of extra hundreds, it's wiser. :-)
>Never heard abput this brand
>What differences it from other choices?
It's made by Messerschmitt. They've produced planes for Germany used in a minor conflict of the 20th century.
This specific model looks quite elegant and it's still reasonable priced (~220€), at least in the range what i would pay for a watch.
>Why do you want it anon?
I'm looking for an elegant watch that goes well with suits, "official clothing" and the alike.
>They've produced planes for Germany used in a minor conflict of the 20th century.
This irks me like a mofo.
However, for the price in seems about ok; bauhauss design and all.
Have you seen irl?
I don't know really anything about watches or watch brands. I was just given this watch as a gift from my mother. Apparently my father purchased it as a present for my grandfather, both of whom are now deceased. Is this a good watch?
Does anyone know how I could get a Citizen Ana-Digi-Temp repaired? There's quite a lot wrong with it - the light button is stuck in/not working and the analog clock parts don't work. The temperature feature doesn't work either - about the only thing that does work is the digital watch part, date and alarm.
Do you think your standard mall watch repair shop would know how to repair a digital/analog hybrid?
Question for you guys.
I work in motorsports and the work is pretty rough and tumble, but also the kind of thing where a watch is very useful to have. I'm looking for a watch that can handle the abuse of shop and trackside life, but isn't some chunky digital thing that looks like a middle schooler's watch. My experience is that resistance to scratches and chemicals and the ability to be quickly and easily cleaned are more important than impact resistance in my environment. Budget is around $300, give or take a couple hundred, and I prefer analog watches from real watch brands. Something that could be a casual-wear watch outside work and when I'm in the office would be nice.
Obris Morgan, maybe? it's right in your price range, has a sapphire crystal, and the dome is hardly there.
Thank m8s. It's a great watch indeed.
Here,have another picture of it.
I have seen som Seiko 5 take a masive amount of damage and still look good at the end of the day. Look for one with a ceramic bezel, brushed steel finishing (no coats, as they will fall off) and you're done.
It's not a bad one,and it also has a heirloom history behind it. Take it to service, put it on a black mate strap (buffalo is a nice option) and enjoy it. It won't be fitableforevery ocasion, tough.
You should take it to Citizen official repair center, they are everywhere (I have three in my city) It's the sae choice, but a bit more expensive.
No. The markers ARE printed on the surface of the dial, but the blue is some sort of translucent material that allow the markes to be reflected on the bottom on the dial as well, thus providing a sensation of deepnessI have never seen in any other dial.
Not really. The applied material rests on a base plate made of silver as on any high end watches so, if you want to see the movement, you have to turn it around. (Which is delightful and sexy as fuarck.)
Thanks fo the interest m8. What's your watch?
>mfw journe makes their watch dials out of blueberry jello
that's cool as fuck
He's a lawyer, get ready to hear his life story.
Neat watch though, I like it a lot. The white one with blued hands is much nicer though, honestly.
I have one (obviously.)
A phone is harder to access when in awkward positions or in a high-sided racing bucket seat, which I spend a lot of time in at my job. It's not resistant to liquids or chemicals, has a fragile screen, and I don't want to reach into my pocket with grime or oil on my hands to pull it out. It also doesn't have a quickly accessible second hand or counter, which is something I need quite frequently.
>Once upon a time a little handsome boy was born to become a lawyer....
No, but seriously, I'm a lawyer and I do OK I guess. :-) I earn all my disposable income through hard work though.
>The white one with blued hands is much nicer though, honestly.
I beg to differ greatly, but disregarding that I already have several more traditional looking watches and I felt in love with the intense red tone. Makes a nice pair with my blue Journe and also forms a stronger connection with the chinese culture.
Pushing it, but you're probably fine.
I usually like my watches a little more conservatively sized like pic related though.
Them shits is made in china nigga. You just paid for a watch with one of those chinky 50 cent movements they put in fake rolex's. Save your money and hit up the flea market next time.
Cronograph case configuration but with no chronograph dials?? Yes it is.
Also, black hands??
Who are you trying to decive?
Look, if you like the watch that's good, but don't try to pass it for a real VC. Why won't you get a nice Citizen ir Seiko?
0/10 unsuccesful troll
I have collected several high end watches over the years and belive me, this watch worths as much as its cost, and probably some more.
>Pic related, other of my watches.
Now, why won't you go troll the fuccboy thread? Chances are you'll be more succesful there m8.
Even if the hands are black polished or look that way due to a photograph reflection that doesn't change the fact that the subdials are marked to a seven days and twelve hour configuration. That is not a chronograph at all.
It. Is. Fake.
I didn't care until the other anon stated it was fake and you said it wasn't. I like all kind of watches (cheap Citizens and Seikos are among wht I always recommed) but what I don't like is when someone tries to decive by saying something is authentic when it isn't. There is an anon here with a fake Rolex that always state it's a fake. I respect that, I like honesty.
HEY GUYS I have a question
Poorfag college student here.
Is there a point in spending more than $200 and less than $2000 on a watch? it seems like with watches it's either go big or go home. So would it be dumb to buy a say $400 watch? Or should I just stick to the $180 seiko and deal with it
Victorinox and Wenger make pretty decent stuff. Lots of military styled watch. Although I personally can't stand the swiss emblem on all of their watches so they don't make for good dress watches. And I'm pretty sure /fa/ doesn't like pic related for example. So yeah, hit and miss in terms of pure style.
I like this Victorinox though.
