I suppose I'll fill Pigfuck's absence with some Helmut photos
that one is Panos Yiapanis wearing Helmut in Poison magazine - V22 Photography
this is backstage at Helmut A/W03
I'm looking into buying some of the Docker's Alpha Khakis that are on sale. I've already got a decent pair of regular colored khakis and ones that are charcoal gray. Any suggestions on what colors I should pick up?
hand/wrist strap thing from around the same time
doublelayer sweater from a/w98
metal slider belt, probably from around 2k2
awesome beaded chest-piece from around 2003
Can u trade me that blue eyes white dragon for my dark magician?
Helmut was on that extra zipper game years ago
more gold from the master of attenshunwhoring
Not even I can top this
>that one is Panos Yiapanis wearing Helmut in Poison magazine
panos is the stylist, not the model. panos looks like pic rel. he styles rick owens shows.
While I'm aware that he's primarily a stylist, I'm pretty sure he was in a wig modeling for this shoot.

"Fashion story featuring one-of-a-kind pieces created by stylist Panos Yiapanis (that’s him hiding behind the long black hair). Couture with a rock-and-roll attitude. Through the lens of Inez and Vinoodh, V and the season started to look very heavy metal."

Would to God I had never opened your loathsome missive or any of the others! I lie gibbering on the settee, striving to blot from my consciousness your perverse admission, the most terrible quality of which is that it is penned in what is unquestionably my own handwriting. If that were not enough, your letter’s acrid stench resembles that of the thing — if it is a thing — that now slavers spasmodically against my window shutter. Yesterday I half-glimpsed its necrophagous shadow, and its contours are as terrible as that low whistling sound it makes, the ichor it exudes, and its interminable gnawings upon the doorknob. In outline it resembles a giant floret of broccoli, with queer appendages that are neither mouths nor talons, and despite being ill-equipped for the task, it has been alien-rhythmically typing me some kind of message. Through some ultimate void it tries to take control of my mind! While even now I hear it fumbling slobberingly with the letter-box! My one consolation is that it has already devoured the Rural Free Delivery man, so that I need not anticipate the arrival of any more of this vile and accursed correspondence,

From a V magazine article by Normal Mailer of all people. I don't have any scans, but there are lots of good ones on Tumblr. Search for Panos Yiapanos v22.

not surprising, i'm not that impressed with his more recent stuff (pic rel). his earliest work with corinne day was his best.
He's so talented. I own this Arena Homme Plus issue with the Helmut Lang retrospective. I was too young to care about Helmut during most of his career. This shoot is what got me interested in Lang and put Panos on my radar. I have scans of this one if you want.
the melanie ward years? I have most of it, not a full set though. A physical copy would be amazing. what i'm really missing is some of his early untitled shoots and photo stories with corinne day. he is an amazing stylist.
i'm familiar with the blog but it's dead as fuck. the fashion spot has a good thread with mostly complete scans, quite a few dead links though. you should be able to find a few dozen complete sets though. the problem is that people there use awful image hosts, and if you want to access pictures uploaded to the website itself you have to go through their awful application process.
It's crazy to me that something only ten years old could ever be lost to us. I mean the internet seems like this vast, even infinite space where everything exists if you search hard enough, but things like editorials show that to be false.
Print media is becoming lost because of the digital revolution. I can't even find out when that Panos special for V mag came out. I doubt I could find the complete scans of Melanie Ward years including the text pages. It's sad to me that there is beauty that is not being saved.
Yeesh. That sounded sappy and depressing. Please excuse me. I'm a little stoned. Have some more Helmut.
personally i'm trying my hardest to preserve the work i enjoy by archiving, organising and eventually rehosting what i can find from the photographers, stylists and designers i favour, but actually tracking down scans or physical copies is so laborious.
http://4archive.net/ is another great resource for scans and such.
Good man! I sometimes wish I had studied to be an archivist instead of an archaeologist. What's the point of finding it if you can't preserve it.
Rare Helmut aviator shorts. Probably from 2003.
It's also both frustrating and interesting how information becomes corrupted during the transition from one medium to another, be it from print to digital or from a blog to tumblr. I can't tell you how many shoot or product photos I have with no other info except maybe a designer.
Lol those three jackets he bought all at once. I won't deny I'm jealous. They're from the Astro biker collection, I believe. A/W99.
God also has an enviable Helmut collection, some of which he's selling for fair but completely out of my range prices.
are you interested in any other stylists or photographers in particular? my tastes are pretty limited, and usually confined to a particular era of someone's work.
panos + corinne day is unbeatable
melanie ward + corinne day also
jane how's work with alasdair mclellan is excellent
love most of christopher niquet's stuff
as well as alastair mckimm's body of work
loss of context is probably the biggest problem i come across,
you guys wanna see what about 25-35k worth of clothes looks like(no thats not what i paid, thats its value)
this the most valuable outerwear, lot of sweaters and hoodies absent.
Middle bomber and the two parkas look nice. Rest are a bit ordinary/played out.
Are you selling these or just going to keep them for personal use?
Let's try to keep this thread about fashion guys, no personal attacks on pf; and pf try to lay off the tired /pol/ memes. I'm sure you have plenty of other topics you can converse about.
What do you do with the stuff you buy?
Do you resell all of it? If you keep it, do you wear it? Would you ever remove the tags on that Raf parka? I get the feeling that you treat this stuff like museum exhibits.
What's your interest in owning the pieces themselves? Do you see yourself as a collector? If so, why do you collect? Do you keep the pieces in your closet? Do you look at them often?
I have an interest in your interest if that makes sense.
lol 3 of those things in that pic are worth more than everything he owns, the raf parka and bomber are some of the rarest pieces of designer menswear on the planet.
those astros arent rare at all, ive had about 5 or 6 of them and ive got another one the way. the only special ones in terms of rarity are the ballistic nylon or leather runway versions.
they're really nice i mean dont get me wrong but they're not super valuable.
ill dump some pics of things ive sold
Is OG Helmut suiting worth looking into? When it comes to suiting I don't like conventional silhouettes, I like Yohji, CdG, Thom Browne, Hedi Dior Homme / SLP suits. Is his suiting interesting or noteworthy at all?
It's not Panos. I've met him in person several times, he's pretty hippy and stumpy. NOT long-legged/lithe like whoever's in that picture. You can also just tell from the stock-as-hell posing that's very clearly a working female model. Come on gang. Let's at least apply a modicum of critical thinking.
I don't have any kind of attachment or affinity for the designers, their motivations, or an item's rarity. I'm just interested in the pieces themselves. Maybe I'm in a minority with that position; nothing against those who are dedicated to certain designers though.
I admitted myself it's strange. I think he rubs me the wrong way because I really dislike the instagram show off your pieces thing (and I don't like when anyone does it really) and I don't think he wears any of it well.
I also get this new money asian vibe off of him. Which may not even be true at all. And I also find his girlfriends face offensive and I think that geobasket webm is the lamest showoffy thing. I think that's what I don't like, it's just like he is a show off. I mean pigfuck is too ofc, but not anywhere else besides here and he's straight up about it.
And I wonder how he pays for it all. Maybe I'm somewhat jealous!
But yeah he has some nice fucking pieces. I just don't like him- and not for any good reason either, as you can tell. Just my thoughts on some guy I don't even know based off what I've seen of him through the internet.
Ah, I've only seen a few posts he's made here. No idea about his personality. He has a tumblr as well right? I think that's a pretty good idea; I might start up a tumblr of my own to host pics of some of the stuff I own. There seems to be little commentary on that platform though, just a lot of re-blogging.
>Also, can I pick your brain a bit? I have some questions about your fashion interest.
>I have an interest in your interest if that makes sense.
some of it i keep even though i dont wear because i cant part with it like the astro parka and the raf bomber.
no, removing tags would be retarded whether i intended to sell it or keep it because itd reduce its value. a lot of these pieces are like shares, they're an effective way of storing your money and making sure it increases in value, its just a bonus that they're really nice and you can wear them.
i look at the pieces i keep but dont wear every now and then, the ballistic nylon astro parka is probably the most impressive piece of clothing ive ever seen so its always nice to take it out on occasion.
you could consider me a collector because i fit the definition, id definitely have kept a lot more stuff though if i was just a collector, i make a decent amount of money reselling. i've had to compromise however, if it was just about the money i wouldve sold a lot of those things in the pic.
I purchased a bunch of stuff recently moving away from pure yohji
Raf Simons SS2000 Camp Crystal Lake Shirt
Raf Simons AW04-05 Pocket Denim
Helmut Lang 1999 Bikers
Helmut Lang Bondage Windbreaker
Helmut Lang 1999 Raw Denim Jacket
Helmut Lang 1997? Hooded Military Jacket
Helmut Lang Adjustable Waist Chinos
Yohji Yamamoto Military Buttonup
Going to buy Helmut Lang Parka, Helmut Lang Bomber, Raf Bomber, and maybe another YYPH suit over the summer and next fall. Could pick up one of the above items right now but don't want to buy too early in case something more interesting than what's currently available comes along.
Fromjapan still hasn't received the 1997ish hooded military jacket so I'm sweatin'
I work in what you would probably consider an "adjacent" industry. But it's definitely not hard to run into these people (or anybody for that matter) living in New York (as I do.) Panos I just happen to see at events all the time because he and his little gang really stand out, although he goes out less now. He has/had quite a...nose for parties.
If you're interested in stylists who love Helmut, you should watch out for Hanne Odiele--yes, the model!--who is planning on going into stylist work really soon. She LOVES Helmut and old Raf (has a great personal relationship with Raf too, obviously, as she walked for his last menswear show...)
Sorry. I don't know much about the guy. I was just going off of the text of the article, which stated that the model was Yipanis. I figured he was just modifying his look and tricking the eye.
Understandable. I know where you're coming from. But to clarify some, I make all my money myself. I'm not rich or anywhere close, but I have been lucky with some nice pickups and were able to make a decent amount through reselling. I also have a job. I don't really mean to seem cocky with my Instagram posts, my followers seems to enjoy them.
Post pics of cops
I'm kind of like you, been diehard Yohji for a couple years but recently been finding interest in Helmut and Visvim / Americana in general, Soloist as well
Been considering selling some of my Yohji for other stuff but picked up a pair of Y's For Men pants from the post office today and I don't think I'll ever completely move away from Yohji idk
Being a Yohji dude is cool but I don't feel like dressing like an old man all the time nahmean
aside from the astro parka, the ss03 bomber and the aw03 parka i pretty much wear everything else so i doubt id sell up and move on, thats what i wear, thats my wardrobe.
suiting is decent i guess but hard to find complete suit jacket and pants.
in terms of aesthetic design + quality and comfort synthesis the astro stuff is some of the best shit ive handled. the cut, the quality, the comfort, they just look and feel really nice.
i have a white astro jacket coming that i will be selling.
And funny that I see Sarah Harris in the same Sartoralist revue as that Hanne picture, because a face familiar to all you (you'll have to GUESS who) just sold her several pieces worth of Helmut womenswear for pennies. So if you see her wearing one of the pigskin cut-out riders from 2004 anytime soon...
Of course your followers enjoy them, that's why they follow you and comment.
But that doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of others who find it tacky and keep their mouths shut.
By all means though do what you want and what makes you happy
How old are you?
Also hi everyone. Nice stuff pf,
Nice. I got a pair of SS13 hakama/balloon pants recently
Huh, quite interesting about Hanne, I've noticed that she seems to be one of few models who actually takes an interest in wearing designer clothing for herself, makes sense that she's branching out into the industry. Although from what I've seen from her personal styling, I'm not sure if I can say that I like it... Idk though, I'm much more used to analyzing menswear, lots of womenswear on the streets is styled in complex ways with much more "codes" than menswear... Maybe I just lack the eye for it right now.
Any interesting industry happenings or info in general?
I was wondering if you owned a pair of aviators. Are those yours?
Do you have a pair of the cutout legging version?
I love dressing in YYPH. Dressing in Helmut/Raf makes me feel really good in a different kind of way than Yohji. Makes me feel more young. I'm taking it easy right now before I make Helmut/Raf cops > 1000 USD.
Those are a cool but a bit much for me. My favourite Yohji pants are some baggy gab ones from 92 :)
this is an interesting iteration of the astro biker has like exo skeleton detailing, asymmetrical stitching and d ring design which none of the others have. i sold it for only 650 because i needed money fast and it had a slight tear in the lining + missing the fur.
Those look pretty similar to my SS13 rayon balloon pants, which I'm considering selling soon... How much did you get yours for? I want a general idea of how much people are buying / selling Hakama variations for these days...
everything that im uploading individual shots of is stuff ive owned but sold. i owned those aviators but i sold them.
there was a pair of the green chaps for sale on ebay that went for like 160 cuz they were listed in the 'vintage' section. probably shouldve bought em.
i sold both the eskimo hooded parka and jacket just recently as well.
That's nice, the d-ring detailing is cool. You didn't consider having the lining repaired by a professional? Or do collectors just want the items "as is"? I always get the stuff I'm going to re-sell repaired if possible.
What great fun this is.
dumbfuck sure loves attention, so why not give it to him?
Yeah exactly, just learned from life experience that wearing Yohji to a concert or party isn't fun, I feel much more energetic in a pair of levis and a thrifted jacket, would imagine I'd enjoy Helmut / Raf stuff in the same way, I've always thought it looked great but lacked the motivation to scour the web for stuff because there always seems to be high demand for pieces, and I'm pretty autistic about coherence in my wardrobe so I rarely buy new (looking) stuff, most of the shit I buy is very similar to pieces I already have, I just buy them as a possible "upgrade" and sell the one that I don't like as much
Nice to have a thread like this where people are actually talking about clothes and designers
Don't remember the last time there was a thread like this
>doesn't realize that there are multiple people who conspire to remove him from board
Idk I feel like the purpose of this stuff is to be worn, not treated like a fine art painting. I know some pieces are rare or valuable but fuck man, they're just clothes. You gotta accept that if you wear them, they'll probably get...worn.
Based Japan keeps the cost of my cops way low so don't really have anything that I'd be super upset about having damaged, in fact I actually like having my stuff damaged, gives it character and makes things more fun
>coffee stains on Paul Harnden shirt
>rips on yohji jacket sleeve from trying to twist the cap off a beer
>split stain on yohji coat from bad aim while smoking
i have a pair of the motos, maybe ill try it with the jacket that ill be getting soon.
nah pretty sure the artisanal stuff from aw03 and ss04 was never really sold, it was made inhouse separate to the retail stuff as well.
this is one of the eskimo jackets from aw98, ill follow up with a runway pic.
the stuff from aw98 is built to be worn in every sense, the cotton exterior is really thick moleskin and the inner has 2 different layers of both synthetic and natural textiles.
This is pretty bad man. I mean it's okay when I get a little rip in a yohji jacket from a chair or something or a stain from coffee but I think it's stupid to do stuff to intentionally fuck your clothes up like trying to open a beer bottle with your sleeve or something.
true, but once you get your hands on an archival piece you'll realize that its not that easy to just buy another one if you end up trash it. Though, there are pieces i wear sparingly and some i can just wear like almost daily.
>few models take an interest in wearing designer clothing
This is just dead wrong and born out of a fashion spectator (well look what fucking website I'm on...) misunderstanding of working models as airhead blondes, which is very obviously not the case any more and I'd argue hasn't been since the Russian invasion (Sasha Pivarova.) Girls who get work now whether it be in editorial or runway are "girls who know" and you can see this in London, in New York, and in Paris all three. I'm not going to go out of my way to explain this to you, but just think Jamie Bochert, Issa Lish (who came up through the New York independent/VFILES scene, she was "discovered" by Hari Nef for gods sakes) Iekeliene Stange, the list goes on.
But also, once again, this is so obvious, but stylist/model has always been an EASY combo. Making any sort of money off styling work at all is about having pre-existing connections and how better to break into that scene than being cast by someone else to work with the designers directly.
Last Vetements show was presented on entirely their stylists and friends of the house. For example here's Lotta Volkova.
If the clues "works in industry in New York" "owens a lot of vtg Helmut womenswear" and "involved with /fa/ in some way" doesn't make it obvious you're just not going to get it period. I'm sure she'd hate me for talking about it on here anyway.
Well yeah, that makes sense. Even then though once I actually start touching and seeing beautiful things in real life I get pretty attached, probably why I haven't made it on the lucrative resale market yet.
I definitely see that. Don't get me wrong. Some of my Helmut and Sruli pieces are really special to me, but a lot of that comes from the joy of wearing them. It feels good to walk around in high quality or iconic clothing.
The way I live I just treat them without too much care and if they get dirty/beaten at all I just treat it like a result of having a good time and move on. I know too many people who never even wear their clothes because of a fear of any harm coming to them.
i went on a date with a girl who did work as a runway model for prada and she barely showered and wore nirvana and metallic shirts and told me i was dumb for liking fashion because the designers "pull it all out of their ass"
These days I've just started buying only designer stuff and putting it for sale at a price far more than I've paid. If it doesn't sell I'm not fussed but if it does then the profit means I can purchase multiple new items. It's helped actually turn the hobby into a source of positive cash flow instead of a money pit.
I just don't know any women from this board who live in New York and work in the industry and own vintage helmut womenswear.
Unless you meant /fa/ as in fashion in general and not 4chan related.
the OP pic is an advertisement for lang aw03
the really interesting thing is the contrast between prada lang and the 90's era stuff before he sold it to prada.
at prada lang did some reissues of his famous designs, this piece i just got today is a reissue of the old aw98 eskimo jackets. a version of this sold on grailed for 4500
the older stuff from the jeans line is built to withstand the elements, the jeans line was all about functional and protective sportswear so this stuff
is really well built, the lining is mostly synthetic, the cotton is waxed and waterproof and theres about 3 different layers within the jacket itself.
the prada stuff isnt as well made but by this time lang had a really great handle on the aesthetic, the fishtail + his famous hand straps of the newer version im wearing create a much sharper chic look. the hood isnt as imposing either, the materials are more luxury than functional - this new version is goatfur, wool and viscosse/cupro blend inner as opposed to the predominantly synthetic blend of the aw98 stuff.
Actually you're right, I don't reaaally keep up with models or street style (stars), and when I do see them and they aren't dressed in something that is immediately recognizable to me (like that cdg coat hanne is wearing) i guess i just assume that they're wearing non designer clothing
thanks for the insight
because he's a dumbass, why else?
Do you think you're talking to someone who makes informed decisions?
>mfw he's a scalper
No fucking wonder
A cotton hoodie for $1200?
That's actually not an unreasonable price for that hoodie and if you don't know why you're beyond helping
I don't think pigfuck himself dictates the market. If people are willing to pay, so be it. Capitalism baby. You sound poor and jealous. Maybe fat too
Nice samefagging you douche
why do your pupils seem to go in different directions?
>Maybe fat too
oh you dont know who this is? its the PCOS girl with the big old clit, this is her.
i wont post about her again though, she wants the attention bad.
pigfuck add me on skype so I can add you to onani
Pigface's dick suckers?
maybe one more so we can understand where the anger comes from.
shes a big girl.
damn... that hood... those finger straps... that lining... those shoulder straps
it's crazy how it's been a decade since he retired and so few in the collective world of fashion have been able to produce parkas bombers etc that can be considered to be on par with some of these pieces
payback's abitch ain't it? :-)
And i'm not so much angry as amused.
starfrog is cool he wont delete it but other janitors/mods are pretty fucking gay and will delete regardless of the content.
if this thread is deleted and you guys want to look back on it use the archive(a lot of people dont know about this for some reason)
more pics of latest parka, thinking hard in this pic.
someone please photoshop pig's name to this and send to that poor lass who took naked pics with him
You ever owned any of the bondage strap pants from Helmut? They're pretty much the only things from his archive I'm craving but I'm interested in whether or not the cut/craft can stand up alongside the gimmick
yeh the jacket in the pic you just quoted is the runway piece from aw98
this is it on the runway
idk which ones you mean, theres a lot of different iterations. do you mean the mummy jeans or the aviator pants? pictured are the mummy jeans
these are the aviators
Oh right, I meant these kind. I know they're nothing too special I just like small detailing like this, other helmut stuff goes too far out of my overall style.
and these are just chaps that you wear over pants
btw a lot of fags/people will say hl was influenced by bdsm/gay bondage wear for this but helmut never, not once, referred to his shit as bondage. the straps are all about adjustment and orthopedics, the pants are basically 1:1 copies of aviator/pilot pants.
the press is 100% responsible for the notion that helmut stuff is 'bondage' inspired.
none of the straps on te bombers are gratuitous, they all can be adjusted for different effects/
Well yeah, it's obvious he wasn't inspired by any sexual attributes when it comes to his collections since the aesthetics of the straps always seemed more military than sexy, I just call them that out of habit.
Those are Ann Demeulemeester.
They look like this worn (in white)
Be careful not to let them know how little HL knowledge you actually possess... ;) Oh I jest. But don't think I don't know where you got that "orthopedics" idea from (actually same person who wrote 60% of Michael Kard's material so you're in good company.)
This. I blew tens of thousands of dollars on designer clothing (Rick, YSL, Dior Homme, Sruli, Yohji, etc) and pretty much walk out of the house wearing YSL jeans and a $50 hoodie 9 times out of 10.
yeh its nitpicky just thought it was worth pointing out. i still use bondage in my sales ads cause equate bondage and lang with value and rarity, i just say put it in ''
this is one of the last things i really want, one of the aw03 bombers with the assymetrical neck and should detailing.
pretty obvious thats what it is, i was in a chemist yesterday looking at the orthopedics gear and theres a lot of hand and wrist attachments that resemble langs aw03 stuff so thats the word i chose. michael kard from endyma certainly doesnt get his info from a 19 year old girl who got all her info from his posts on sz though.
That harness reminds a me a little of what Dries got up to recently, I really dig that kind of layering on clothing
Oh man dude. Are you being fucking serious right now?
You sound completely delusional.
>the effusive purple prose copywriters use to generate hype for marked up designer garbage is ALL TRUE
assuming you're being genuine, what are you talking about? ignoring the flagrant gratuitousness of endyma's prose, theres a lot empirically correct information about collections, dates, details etc. that you dont get anywhere else.
He seems to think that the persuasive language designers use has not been written to market shoddy, uninspired crap most of the time
Pigface only wants what seems edgy to him with no regard to actual quality or artistry that is beyond what is sanctioned by his narrow frame of reference.
Dude is too busy being a ruse master to learn anything valuable.
That's his stalker btw. He likes to create multiple personalities and emulate posters (you, in this case) to try to throw of off his scent. He stalks other trips too.
Truly a worthwhile human being!
No, none of those posts are me. I actually engage with Pigfuck constructively in the rare instances where he chooses to behave and communicate like a human being instead of a chimped out 12 year old. I've been very civil in this thread, I don't know who the other posters are that are derailing one of the few cool threads that have been hosted on /fa/ in recent weeks/months. I leave such paranoid speculations to pigfuck, he's a master of them.
Since you have the originals you could just bring them into a decent tailor/alterationist and they should be able to find a near enough match. I've done it with a few CDG and Miyake pieces and you can't tell which buttons have been replaced. Cost less than $3 a button as well including labour.
"web conspiracy theorist"
What are you even implying? Do you think that designers couldn't possibly be screwing you over? have you actually observed how things are done in the industry? I encounter many consummers like you who refuse to be informed either b/c they can afford to spend oodles of money without much concern or they only hear whay they want to.
You must inspect your own internal processes before you dismiss others' critiques. People can be quite perceptive.
Oh man, m'starting to sympathize with him now.
I dont think these asses understand us, bud. For the record, I think you're OK.
See ya l8er!
No, I'm the original pf stalker who shitposts in a majority of white noise, attention seeking threads. Although pigfuck, and apparently you, identify up to five different anons with me and my shenanigans; who knows what they've been up to. It's nice that we've been able to have a good thread up til this point. Maybe we should just start a patrician general and pigfuck can be a contributor instead of the thread creator to minimize people trolling him to chimp out. He's just so easy to get to overreact. He's been doing a good job just ignoring it so far. Keep it up, Martin.
