How often do you brush?
Rec toothpaste brands
I'm 21 and a boxer.
My dentist told me I can't get braces while I box because it'd conflict with the mouth guard.
I can reshape the thing using hot water so I think it's bullshit.
Im a 2nd year dent student. I do as much study as med kids do from what i can gather. Shit theres even a guy in my course who did 5 years med then swapped into dent. The thing people dont realise is that med kids have their study and thats it. Dent kids have their study and also the clinical training that needs to be done before we can even go near a real tooth with a drill. Then on top of all that we have patients we need to be looking after starting in 3rd year.
Our workload is way too intense to not be called doctors at the end of it.
My front two teeth are huge and have pushed forward partially covering the teeth next to them. This makes me look retard. I had braces as a kid but my teeth are still shit.
Even if I were to pay for braces or invisalign , my front 2 teeth are so massive I'd still look like a moron. What can I do?
That's what hydrogen peroxide actually does, it's abrasive as fuck not just a bleacher that magically leaves the surface in tact, you can use any of the anti abrasive toothpastes for a recovery agent, but much like the treatments themselves it won't help much, that's why you use low concentrations (start with 7% on a mole basis) and do it in less than 15-30 minute treatments.
so all the people with whitened teeth have a fucked up enmel and will have in 10 years or so rotten brown teeth?
Just got invisalign a month ago, ask me anything.
Answers to questions i know will be asked: Costed me $6k out of pocket. Will take 14 months to complete. Teeth weren't that bad but I'm going for LA-tier teeth
I wish I had gotten braces as a kid, it's all pretty straight except for the bottom centre four and and one centre top...which is the only teeth people see anyway.
Anyone got any stories/recommendations to fix/not to fix this this?
I brush once a day.
But I've not been kind to my teeth. Chewing habit in my teens, and at 25 now I've been drinking a pot of coffee a day for the last 3 years. Also mindlessly eat the ice out of my drinks. My teeth aren't totally gone yet, but they are getting there.
Alcohol. Embrace daydrinking.
Fuck are you crazy? You have to get a mouth guard model made by a dental hygienist, don't just pour it in your mouth you will burn through your gums in seconds.
Eat something. The smell is because when you sleep you produce less saliva, which makes you smell like shit. When you eat you encourage your body to produce saliva and the smell goes away.
K9 Masterrace reporting in.
>tfw dad gave me based genetics to tear through flesh of prey
Perfect teeth/smile reporting in, however;
>Have strong bacteria in mouth though, incredibly hard for me to get cavaties even if I abuse my teeth.
>Had braces for 6months for minor movements
>I get professional cleaning every 6months
>I floss bi-weekly (can't be bothered finding study but tl;dr flossing isn't necessary
>I mouthwash weekly.
>I used to brush incredibly hard, used to fuck up toothbrushes within a week, have changed now.
Twice a day.
Get a tongue scalp, good for people with shit mouth bacteria, they are like 100x better than brushing the tongue.
You are the retard. Seriously. YOU. ARE. SO. FUCKING. DENSE. The mouthguard won't protect you from a bent wire, as soon as you bend a wire gg moron.
White teeth aren't natty.
It's like bodybuilding, even if you have shit genetics you can still make it look better. Also wear your fucking retainer.
No it doesn't. Are you retarded?
No way to fix it but conventional treatments.
My bro had death breath back in 2007 he used a product called kforce. Other then that. Brush tongue mouthwash.
Thx for sharing what not to do.
>Dentists took home a median annual salary of $142,740 as of May 2011, compared with $112,020 among doctors, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
also don't have to deal with malpractice that much.
>Do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, ice cream?
>Ice cream, /fit/ Children's ice cream!...You know when fluoridation began?...1946. 1946.
>How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it?
>A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice.
>That's the way your hard-core Commie works. I first became aware of it, /fit/, during the physical act of love...
>Yes, a profound sense of fatigue, a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I was able to interpret these feelings correctly.
>Loss of essence. I can assure you it has not recurred, /fit/.

I do not avoid women, /fit/...but I do deny them my essence.

anyone had their gap closed?
kinda related: I'm planning to start boxing soon. Most of my molars are beyond repair. It is my understanding that I can't get any kind of implants/bridge/partial denture, is this true?
Tbh I wouldn't mind simply removing what is beyond repair and leaving it at that, but I've read that it's not a good idea to do so.
i dont know , bruxism tends to produce a marked enlargement of the facial muscles.but thats a disease.
too much chewing gum might give you TMJ problems though.
also only way to change cheekbones is with surgery...cuz you know...bones...
but you might be able to improve your face with botox or hyaluronic injections.google it.
use an over the counter bleaching product.
or visit a dentist and get a at home bleaching kit from them.
also reduce coffee and tea as well as other stuff that will stain your teeth.please understand that sometimes yellow is the natural color of your teeth....in that case you are fucked.(like myself)
I had braces for a year when I was like 14. I still wear retainers every once in a while (every third day or so) and my teeth are godlike now. I had a pretty big gap in my top teeth. If I don't wear my retainers for a long period the gap starts to come back though. One time I didn't wear my retainer for like 10 months and my gap was visible. When I put it in it was the most painful shit ever.
your smile is half teeth half gums, that is funny.
I had braces when I played football. My orthodontist gave me a special mouthgaurd for it. Then again it's not exactly boxing so I'm not getting hit in the mouth every 4 seconds.
Unfortunately not. My plebian opinion is that the following are beyond salvageable, they are quite literally just ruins at this point. The rest seem decent.
For reference, "left" is my left.
Its not a huge gap, but if the two front teeth were each made wide enough to fill the gap it'd look weird as fuck because I'd have massive front teeth.
I guess the way around that would be 4 vaneers?
I don't know, I'm not a dentist.
Can I completely replace toothpaste with baking soda? (I already have and there doesn't seem to be a difference other than taste) will it fuck up my enamel if I'm using it everyday?
Also does fluoride actually have any adverse effects on your teeth?
Mouth-breathing has a long history in that people used to think breathing from, your mouth led to (was not created by) a bunch of deformities. Hence a "mouth breather". I used to be a mouth breather until I got braces (I'm >>31764493). Before I had the braces the orthodontist made me wear a mouth device that basically moved my bottom jaw forward. Essentially what I had was that when my jaw was resting my teeth weren't resting on each other properly and my chin would angle down to keep my mouth open. Now at normal resting position my mouth is closed.
well , we have a few options
1.a removable denture , but young people hate that
3.bridge (stay away from this as much as possible)
depending on the situation and your financial situation
i would trim a little from the other side and then add composite to the place near the gap.
there would still be a small gap ,but not too noticeable.
ofc you can always go for lingual orthodontics, they put white braces behind your teeth...nobody would notice
Is there a point in using this, or would I just have to replace the head every day?
baking soda is ok but you need a source of fluoride.so maybe use a fluoride mouthwash once or twice a day.
too much fluoride can cause fluorosis , which can produce white clouds on your teeth, sometimes these clouds will become stained and become brown.
also too much fluoride can cause death.remember kids,if you ever get fluoride poisoning, drink lots of milk.
Figures this suits the thread. I'm finally going to start the process of getting my teeth fixed. Tired of looking like a hobo when I'm smiling. They are quite crooked and I have a slight overbite. Anyone have experience with getting this corrected? I read in some cases they 'break' your jaw and put it in a better position. Did this improve your jawline? At the moment it's shitty even with low bodyfat (not horrible, but could be better). I hope they won't have to break my jaw but I can barely put my teeth on each other and my tongue is used to being curled up in the back.
Pic. related, my teeth are crooked worse but it's a similar overbite
I have to put braces at 21, don't even know why I haven't done this before.
>hold me brahs
I've been offered free bracers, but I'm not sure if I should get them. I'm 23 and I already look kind of young. Also... is there any way at all to whiten your teeth without damaging them?
And before you ask if I smoke while I drink coffee 6 times a day, I do not. I brush my teeth twice a day, floss every other day or so and regularly use mouthwash.
Would you guys say you would be bothered more by crooked teeth, or discolored ones?
if you are comfortable with a removable denture then i recommend that.
its cheaper and less problematic
having said that, implants are like teeth so you would just wear a mouth guard to protect them
No. I was the only one in my family with it. None of my parents or grandparents or uncles or aunts had it either.I'm not sure how much of ti is genetic but from what I understand is basically every baby born has a chance for it to happen. It's just a musculoskeletal abnormality in the way it grows when you're young.
Getting braces was the best thing I've ever done in my life, bar none. Nothing else has been better for my confidence or my aesthetics, in my opinion. Getting /fit/ makes me feel like half as good as getting braces did. I find shitty teeth incredibly unattractive. Even if they are white if they are messed up a 10/10 instantly becomes a 6/10 to me. I can deal with a little yellow but I can't deal with fucked up teeth.
Having crooked teeth when you're older than 20 is just weird. Not trying to be a dick, mine aren't perfect either, but it's just weird for an adult to look like a child when smiling.
I dont drink soda, or anything other than milk/water really. Don't hardly eat candy, and brush my teeth once-twice a week. Never have bad breath, had maybe 3 cavaties in my life and they were all at young age when I used to eat candy. Is this bad, or is brushing 2x/day snake oil?
I used to punish my teeth so much, it's better now, after my dentist told me I either had, or was extremely close to gingivitis.
>tfw when the dental assistant "counts" the gum line. (size of gums I think)
>used to be 4s, now only 1 4 and mostly 1s and 2s.
It's a great feeling to constantly get compliments on your smile and to feel great to smile all the time. Girls CONSTANTLY compliment me on my smile (I do that gay half-smile that chicks love). If my teeth were all still all fucked up I would hate smiling.
How do I actually know if I have it or not? If I rest my jaw muscles completely while standing upright, my mouth opens about a centimeter and I also have a slight overbite.
Does this mean I could also be a mouth breather and there's something orthos can do to improve it?
I agree and I have the same problem. Fucking japs. You know what's even crazier is they are getting that dental surgery done where they flare out their canines because it's "kawaii". I think it's called yaeba, I don't know what the actual english term is. See pic.
Do you breath through your mouth or nose? That's how you tell. I breathe through my nose now. My room-mate is an insane mouth-breather and you can tell just from listening to the dude, it's like a jet engine. There is still a gap in between my lips (like half a cm)when completely resting. You should just go see an ortho or a dentist and they might refer you to an ortho if it can be fixed. It's free to consult (at least here it is).
I was 14 at the time, and my teeth were all around fucked, that's why it took so long. Plus, moving teeth that far hurts like hell, and they didn't want to move them too quick, else I wouldn't have been able to talk
wow i didnt know about this.thanks anon.
the hell is that kek
2 years is a long time for braces. Depending on how bad your teeth are fucked you could get it fixed even in a couple months. It all depends on you and your teeth. You might also have to wear a retainer at night for the rest of your life as well.
I don't know how high your standards are but Anri Okita seems to have nice teeth and she is my absolute favorite, at least when it comes to still active ones.
>How often do you brush?
Haven't brushed in 3 months since I stopped being social.
I have before pictures and they look the same to me. I eat a lot of acidic food and drink green tea tho so it's good.
They're spaced, chipped, uneven, snaggled and generally fucked up anyways.
I'm a creep.
dude brush them twice a day
and you can get those fixed later when you get money.
can you find a job? dont give up man.
as a fellow robot if i was still in the US i would fix your teeth for free but im not....
>tfw i actually did go to the dentist and i got fillings, the filling either fell out or my tooth around the filling started to kill itself
I fucking hate that dentist
I fucking hate my life
hold me /fa/ :(
>look after teeth
>ver ylittle sugar in diet
>grind teeth like a mothefucker
>gettign a mouth guard later
>no cavities and good oral care habits but still grind my teeth so badly that I need to pay 400$ for the inconvenience and discomfort of a mouth guard
I am mad as fuck.
Damn, I really wish I could go back and force myself to take better care of myself, but I have been brushing, flossing, and rinsing after middle school.
>best chewing gum
The best chewing gum for your teeth is a Xylitol chewing gum.
Trident now has Xylitol in it, but it's not much. I'm not going to find it for you, but there are published studies that recommend a certain number of milligrams of xylitol for 30 minutes after a meal.
Higher-content Xylitol gums are kind of shitty to chew. They tend to be 'natural', so they're kind of waxy and go flavorless quickly. But since your goal is just to change the pH level in your mouth after a meal, that's fine. Chew it for 30 mins, spit it out, and switch to a tasty gum if you just like chewing.
400 dollarinos for a mouth guard wtf man you're being jewed hard, i'm a UK dentist and we only charge 30 bong dollars for a soft splint check other areas for prices man, if you have your insurance paying for it I suppose that's fine,
You have plaque all over your cervical area, look up toothbrushing techniques.
when i was 13 i drank nothing but soda and never brushed my teeth i have big cavities in all my front teeth since then I have took care of them brushing after every meal with whitening toothpaste are the holes fixable and how expensive would it be
they are huge i live in the usa
okay this isn't quite dental but it's about my lips. my fucking lips are -always- dry and it's infuriating. i drink enough water my urine is almost never yellow (except in the morning) so i feel that's not it. i live in the chicago area and have to stay indoors heated, and outside it's fucking windy, so i figure that contributes.
but i feel like i'm addicted to vaseline, if i don't put a little dab of it on my lips every day my lips feel dry and rough and awful. i don't ever put on shit like carmax or lipchap cause it smells weird to me.
i just want to be off the smack. please help..
You really need custom trays if you want to bleach your teeth effectively.
I had some made by DirectWhite.com. I think it was about $70. They send dental alginate (powder that mixes into a quick-setting rubber). You mix up the alginate, press it into an impression device, then bite down on it. Send it off, and a couple of weeks later they send back custom trays.
They also sell bleach. It worked pretty well for me. If I recall correctly, tooth bleach is carbamide peroxide, which converts to hydrogen peroxide upon contact with your saliva. You'll see ridiculous numbers like "70%", but that's pretty meaningless. It converts to a much lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide.
Consider buying a non-American toothpaste with Novamin in it (I think Proctor & Gamble bought the rights to distribution in the USA, and now you can't find any toothpaste here with it) to strengthen your enamel. MI Paste is also supposed to work.
>You might also have to wear a retainer at night for the rest of your life as well.
Man, fuck this, I've been debating getting braces this entire thread, but this seems like too big a deal breaker. I'll just hope it doesn't get anymore crooked.
Are you on accutane or something? Vaseline and other petroleum based oils doesn't work for me personally either. Try a water based moisturizer. I avoid lip products in general and just use a my bulk or facial moisturizer.
Hey dent bro/s, is there a way to fix my underbite without resorting to surgery?
All your permanent teeth are worth saving due to the fact that Dentures aren't as good as your natural teeth and Implants are expensive as fuck, if you can't access them at the back then buy a single tufted brush.
If you use a lot of lip balm and vaseline your lips dry out automatically as soon as you stop using them. Your lips get "addicted" to it if makes sense.
I think there are types of vaseline that don't cause this, so look that up. Your lips might need a break from being constantly moisturized by an outside source.
See it doesn't look like you have a severe class 3, looks like it's skeletal unfortunately, I think it's just camouflaging if you don't want surgery, so that means you'll still need to wear braces for a couple of years and then wear a retainer for rest of your life at night.
If you live in the UK the NHS provides the treatment for free if you're under 17 or 17 but in full education.
Dunno about other systems though.
My ortho is pushing this hard. In need of a redpill. Does it actually work? It's $750 but halves my treatment which I'm skeptical about. Thanks.
If youre thinking about getting braces, i highly recommend you doing it. It will suck of course, but it was definitely one of the best decisions of my life. I-i can finally smile
Is the fact that my jaw is like 1 cm further compared with.... upper row of teeth associated with some drinking/eating habits? I cant properly take a bite out of anything.
Shit, sorry for not actually lurking, here i go:
Yes, only after brushing. Gum/water rinse after eating
Chew after every meal to remove debris. I chew throughout the day, this produces saliva which balances out the oral pH, not allowing cavities to develop
All have mostly the same effect. In brushing, paste is more of a lubricant, 90% of the job does the brush. I recommend an electric toothbrush, simple one for ~20EUR, not a fancy one. Does the job much better
You wont get the same effect as professional ones. Poorfag versions are those White-Strip things, they help somewhat. In the office we use up to 44% hydrogen peroxide, which guarantees 2-3 shades brighter
Worth it. Get a tongue scraper and notice how your bad breath is gone
You can ask the dentist to trim them into a new shape, or make veneers. This is a cosmetic procedure and will result in increased chance of cavities/fractures, but we're willing to take your money and do that to you
It's genetic i'm afraid. In most orthodontic cases the teeth just separate again after treatment. Best bet is to trim them and get veneers.
Normal in small amount. Shills will tell you otherwise. Or maybe im a shill. Oy vey!
I'd guess fillings are the cheapest options. You can get a post/core and get a crown, but that will cost a lot
Can't answer everything because im a huge faggot, but keep em coming
Waterpiks: better than, worse than, or equal to standard flossing?
I've got bruxism, and I haven't really done anything about it. Is it possible that braces will fix my problem? I really don't want to wear a mouthguard or retainer for the rest of my life.
>started clinical training half way through first year
Doing an OSCE of taking blood pressure doesnt count. What clinical procedures were you practicing then? Doing stitches or casts or something?
