ITT: We discuss and praise the greatest of all foods... broccoli.
>I don't eat vegetables, I get everything I need from multivitamins.
i really love frozen peas and carrots
they are delicious
also how do you cook fresh broccoli
I prefer the taste of frozen broccoli to fresh, but frozen broccoli weight is mostly from the stalk which kind of sucks
I pour a 14oz bag of frozen florets into a bowl, put saran rap over that shit, and microwave it for 7.5 minutes. Comes out perfect five servings of greens just like that. Discovered this a few days ago and I could probably do this forever.
>not eating your veggies
It tastes good and it's a healthy vegetable. Not the most amazing thing around nutritionally, but it's an easy food for most people to include in their meals, so it's popular.
Real niggas eat kale though.
my stools are fine
i get my micro nutrients for cheaper and more effectively form multi's
your right the main reason to eat broccoli is to not get cancer. Fucking mong.
Farts like crazy.
And they reek to high heaven.
>Cruciferous vegetables only sparingly, mang
Based veggies go as follows in no particular order:
>fresh crushed garlic in light amounts
Anything I missed?
>I don't need any stupid vegetables. Vegetables are for women and homos. I get everything from supplements.
You guys and your crazy bro science!
I can't believe there are actual adults in this thread asking how to cook a vegetable.
BUY A GOD DAMN STEAMER
STOP MICROWAVING AND BOILING
You are literally nuking the vitamins and minerals out of them
I mean it's good, but it's not as dense as some other vegetables, probably because it's mostly stalk that you're eating, whereas something like kale and spinach are almost entirely the antioxidant-rich leafy bits of the plant
>your right the main reason to eat broccoli is to not get cancer. Fucking mong.
Well yeah, that's probably the main benefit. Not having cancer is pretty cool.
>it's known to cause balding due to it's chemical relationship with dht
w-what have I done
Not broccoli deficiency specifically, but you'd have to know basically nothing about nutrition to not know that vegetables come with cancer-fighting compounds
Don't shoot the messenger, bro. Got to eat healthy to be healthy, a multivitamin won't cut it.
Steam it peasant. Holds in all dem nutrients and goodness. Also, boil it, throw it in blender, pour in same water you boiled it with, blend it up into a puree/soup style, add couple cloves of garlic, perhaps a sprig of mint, chill that shit, serve it up cold/hot whatevs you want. bulking? Melt mozarella/cheedar mix into it.
I made this soup, reheated it, poured some into a clay cooking pot, threw in some sliced french baguette, sliced onion, then topped it with a bunch of mozarella ontop, then threw it into the oven for about half an hour (dont remember temp, just watch the cheese really) and pulled it out. it was this weird, yet fucking amazing and delicious french onion soup. Green french onion soup? You what? splash of heavy cream at the end/dollop of sour cream for dat mega richness after you open up a hole through dat cheese.
World Health Organization and the World Cancer Research Fund recommend atleast 400-600 grams a day of fruits and vegetables, but also to get a variety. Half a pound of broccoli is good for a meal, and try to have a similar amount of different green vegetables with each meal. Snack on oranges, kiwis, plums, berries, etc to get your fruits in. Simp as a chimp.
>Gotta eat my vegetables! They're important for a healthy diet?
>Oh nutrition? Uh yea, I've never studied it or anything... hell uh I couldn't even tell you the essential minerals without looking them up!
To just not eat the same vegetables only. Have a little variety so you get different vitamins.
Don't worry about it too much just don't eat the same damn thing every single day and you're good
You dumbasses know there are undiscovered nutrients right? Never heard of phytonutrients? You guys probably think the list of stuff on the back of your multivitamin is all your body needs other than macros huh?
>You dumbasses know there are undiscovered nutrients right? Never heard of phytonutrients?
Idk, I just eat raw vegetables without anything. Tastes pretty good especially when they still got water on them from just being washed.
They're really not that bad, taste amazing with any meat too.
I enjoy some nice steak, black rice or oats and brocolli.
I'm guessing you up with a mother who could cook anything BUT Vegetables.
Veggies become tasty when you season them. Get acclimated to them through Stir Fry's.
If you don't like Veggies with some Sriacha sauce then I'm afraid you might not make it but experiment till you find stuff you like.
Here is a list of what I believe are the most beneficial vegetables:
These are all pretty top-tier and equal. Anything else is probably unneccessary.
are you a real enough nigga to eat the trippiest veggie on earth?
it's romanesco. it's what happens to broccoli after listening to Tool.
Not sure where he gets off, but...
Boiling leeches the micronutrients, they disperse in the water. This still happens while steaming, though, same difference, just that steaming uses less water. If you're worried about it, drink it.
Not sure why he's hating on microwaving, but I figure it's because he's from the 60s and thinks microwaves will give you radiation poisoning.
Microwaving does not break down micronutrients notably more than any other manner of heating food.
Updated version of it, extra zoomed in
Feel free to use it for your album cover if you have a good band

Frozen broccoli is so much worse than lightly steamed fresh broccoli is there any way to close the gap?
I cook my broccoli in a steamer basket. Just takes 7 or so minutes in the steam produced by boiling water (with a lid on) and the broccoli is nice and soft but not so soft it falls apart. Feel free to add lemon zest, lemon juice, S&P, and/or poppy seeds if you like.
Fresh broccoli is miles better than frozen broccoli. Believe me you can taste the difference, it's like night and day. I can't stand the taste of frozen broccoli since I'm used to the fresh kind. It's like the difference between frozen pre-made burger patties and fresh ground beef patties.
Making broccoli soup is another great option. Check out this recipe on youtube:
I basically cook broccoli the same way as this anon >>32012383 but I wouldn't eat it with baguette or bread in general. Onions, cheese, and cream are a good way to enhance a broccoli soup.
Asparagus is incredibly nutrient dense. It's actually better than broccoli in terms of providing antioxidants and vitamins. However, it's about twice or three times as expensive than broccoli. See pic related.
If you want lots of antioxidants and micronutrients, eat lots of asparagus. I typically go for ~250 g of green vegetables with each meal and that takes a lot of asparagus spears or a large crown of broccoli.
Boil water, put it in, wait 5 minutes.
If you buy organic veggies, let it sit around in salted warm water for 10min, upside down to make small beetles and shit freak out and leave, just rinse it afterwards
well its more like science knows what it knows and theres more shit to know, technically you never know the full range of anything as there could be another unknown you know not of
Only nutrition related thread I could find, may aswell ask a quick question.
Rate my morning smoothie /fit/:
-1 tablespoon peanut butter
I checked nutrition table and it's around 750-800 calories, out of which:
>didn't eat broccoli for over a year
>ate two large heads of it last night
>digestive system "the fuck is this shit?"
>terrible gas pain all night
I should have learned my lesson when I did the same to lentils.
Broccoli is fucking awesome, tomatoes too. Hell, I'll eat whole tomatoes like they're apples. Shit's great
Where's your fucking bulk in all that vitamins Anon? Do you shit toothpaste?
Look up SED/ARFID, it's not just for kids, adults can have it as well. You're probably not as bad as the worst it can get (literally some people can only eat one food, like french fries)
>I'm allergic to it.
I'm allergic to bullshit.
most kids are given the canned or frozen shit. That's what I was given for spinach and it's pretty terrible. I don't even know if canned spinach is still a thing. The leaf spinach tastes pretty ok. It's a leaf, very low flavor
Could be because the store only seems to only have mushy tasteless tomatoes. What I would do for a bit of land to grow some goddamn tomatoes myself. I need to go to /out/ and see if I can grow it on my balcony or something.
