Is there a reason to do sumo deadlifts over normal deadlifts? Perhaps a certain body type would be more inclined to lift one way vs the other?

It's not for a certain body type it's to focus on your hips more. If you're having trouble locking out or moving your squat with your hips, sumo deads will help develop dem hips fam.
I have long torso/short limbs and I can pull 40-50lbs more sumo than conventional.
Also sumo doesn't make me feel like I need to go to the hospital afterwards.
And also I never feel like I'm going to rupture a disk
