I am a developing an open source chat system that can run on cheap hardware, Raspberry Pi, Banana Pi etc. Consider this post as invitation to drop by say hi and you will be contributing in load testing the system.
URL is http://beta.raspchat.com/static/chat.html
We already have a really small community of people from around the globe. Please be polite and don't misuse the system, it's totally opensource, your feedback, and contributions are appreciated.
I recently have purchased a domain and cheapest plan offered from MyBBWebHost. I haven't found any reviews besides their testimonials. Has anyone used them before and how was your experience? Also if you can recommend maybe a better hosting if this one turns out bad?
sup duder. I was curious too.
I was using bluehost and they're OK (no downtime really and it's pretty fas + phone supportt), but I'm looking into hostgator and some others because they don't have a lot of options/services.
So I've been looking at SSHDs out of curiosity and it's gotten me thinking, why can't I just create an sshd like drive using a regular hard disk and ram?
I currently have 12GB ram and a spare 250GB hard disk to fuck around with, could I somehow set aside 4GB ram for the hard disk and make my own sshd?
Does the amount of ram have to follow the power of 2 rule? Or if I upgrade to 16GB ram, could I use 6GB for the hard disk?
What are some good apps / enterainment measures to take that would make my walks more interesting?
Best iTunes alternative? I'm sick of this bloated shitty program. Give me something pretty and lightweight.
been using Linux for awhile now
however turns out everyone has to use visual studio at my workplace
is running win10 on virtual machine a bad idea?
Why are you not submitting to God's will and loading TempleOS onto your PC?
>Development for TempleOS began in 2003 after Davis suffered from a series of manic episodes that left him briefly hospitalized for mental health issues.
>Davis is a former atheist who believes that he can "talk with God" and that God told him the operating system he built was God's official temple.
What are the retarded hard drive companies that didn't invest in SSDs going to do in 2020 or so when SSDs reach price parity with hard drives?
Hello /g/. I went to MLH Prime a little while ago and wanted to share some loot I scored from one of the tables.
Each of the codes I'm going to post is good for the following:
1. One .com/.net/.org domain registration
2. One year of Basic Web Hosting
3. One year of Domain Privacy
You will have to visit https://domain.com/mlh to redeem these codes. The redemption process will require you to enter billing and contact information, though the total of the order will come out to $0 assuming you added just the domain with domain privacy and web hosting.
Want a code emailed to you? Post your project/site idea and if it's dank I'll send it to you via email. I'm giving away this one as a wild card
First code coming up, right now!
The code is PRIME_53e565b2f5
My 6950 has served me well for the last five years but is now a "legacy" product. I'm on the hunt for a good upgrade.
Will I regret this? Canadian dollars, of course.
I've heard that the fan constantly spins at 45% on idle or something
Also, general GPU nonsense thread
keep an eye out for the r9 fury's.
they been selling pretty cheap lately. low 300's. at least here in the states.
since you keep your cards for awhile it seems a 480 would be a better investment since it fares FAR better in dx12 & vulkan than the 1060 does.
though i know they are scarce in canada. even the reference ones.
My mom needs a new laptop. All she does is basic Microsoft office type stuff because she is a teacher.
Do I dare get her the a thinkpad?
I'm looking at an i5 with 4gb of ram (I will add 4gb more) and 128gb ssd for $250.
What would /g/ recommend?
Why does /g/ hate Java?
Will our hero ever win his battle?
Not in his lifetime
It's up to us to continue his legacy
no, and neither will amd
in the future, computers will be "specialized hardware" sold only to the enterprise and will still be more locked down than the average system we have today
Complex as fuck, takes an eternity to write simple concepts, not standardized at all, all libraries are mess
Same as above but with less features and even more verbose
Although it's fast it's a dead language with no community besides some crazy scientists who now prefer R or Python
Slow as FUCK, shitty libraries for webdev, not portable, but it's very hackable and nice to write. Basically a hobbyist language with no real use in the real world
DSL for statistics nerds and wannabe Physics, slow as fuck too
Micropajeet language with nice features but still slow and all over the place. It's a mess if you want to use third party libraries, distribute your code or make it cross-platform. Has been making good progress on these problems but still shit
The only language that I would rather eat my own shit than work with it for a living.
Theoretical useless piece of garbage used as a masturbating mechanism for wannabe mathematicians and mathematicians. Slow and void of productive use in the real world.
Nice syntax language that is famous only for being developed at Google. (If that's any good). Under the hood the language is a cesspool of bad code. It's still unusable in production. I'm sceptical that it can survive another 5 years if it doesn't get proper effort.
Hipster language that has some nice feature but it's a dead language from the get go. There's literally no reason for this to exist when all it wants to achieve is syntactical sugar over already existing features.
Nice toy language that has gone too far
The /guts/ thread got bumped off the map before I could post.
Assuming the rear fan blows out, and the two bottom fans blow in, how terrible is this Mini ITX case layout?
>75% of your intake fans are completely blocked off by the GPU
And if, for example, I ran a 1080 Strix Gaymer without the fans/ shroud, and the two intakes plugged into the card, would it still be terrible? I haven't yet draw anything that would isolate the PSU from the rest of the components/ airflow, but I considered having it draw air from a narrow channel at the front, and vent it out through discrete slits at the top.
No matter which way I orient it, though, PSU...

To add to this, I've been trying to design a small form factor case for the past few weeks, and keep getting cockblocked by some issue or other. You occasionally see people remove their PSU casing and fan, and have case air blow over it. Haven't found a visual guide for that yet, and I don't want to electrocute myself.
Favorite torrent client? Currently using Vuze Leap since normal Vuze had too much shit I never used. Better/safer alternatives?
Which are the best keyboard and mouse brands?
I'm thinking of installing Arch Linux, is it true that it breaks a lot?
arch has been more stable for me than anything else has, even while subjected to a lot more fuckery than the rest.
ubuntu even breaks itself all the fucking time. One time I literally did a clean install, booted it, shut it down (cleanly), then turned it on again and it was borked. After every fucking upgrade it spams "unknown system error" too. fucking meme distro
If you want to do a vacation trip to Rio de Janeiro and want to protect your smartphone and also need communication.
Will you pay for a pager service?
Nobody want to steal that old devices!
Is it worth it?
would this man be for or against the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack ?
For, because it is admittedly a flawed technology. Jobs would have a agreeable replacement, though, as opposed to just falling back on bluetooth/requiring adapters for the existing port. If I knew what his replacement would've been, then I wouldn't be a neet, so don't ask.
it would probably be a new standard that sets the bar
instead of just removing it and replacing it with NOTHING
I miss that fuker
He would, no doubt about it.
For the same reasons. Allegedly for more thinness and progress, in reality to make his prey customers buy branded accessories that bring apple tax home unlike your standard Sennheiser/Audio Technica/etc headphones.
Need help before my computer blows up or something.
>Smell something burning from the other room
>Go in my room, the smell is strong
>Smell is coming from my computer
>Fans are loudest they've ever been
>"Oh shit my PC is overheating"
>I check my thermometers through speccy
>None of them are hot
What does this mean?
Frustrating because I have a fairly new PSU that's pretty overkill (Corsair 700 something W's)
I had it running for a bit, when to get a drink, and when I came back it was shut off. Now I can't turn it on. It's not perm dead or anything right?
Got this email, looked at original message and it does appear to actually be from EA.
Why do they say their emails won't contain clickable links but then have a clickable link?
BTW this is for an account I don't use that never had any payment info entered for it so I'm not really worried.
Having looked it up online I see it is a phishing attempt, but how do they get a subdomain at ea.com?
I got one from Rockstar the other day and the link in that email goes to socialclub.rockstargames.com is that one illegitimate as well?
I could get two subwoofers and an amp for my car for the price of the cheapest i3 on the market and an Intel mobo.
I am tired of stuff always breaking on Arch, so i am comteplating wether to switch to Ubuntu or not, pls convince me not to switch
If requesting purchasing advice, please provide your country and what carrier you will be using it with, along with wanted features, budget and size.

Were these the ultimate laptop CPU?
>barely any power consumption
>low tdp, won't throttle even without a heatsink
>easily capable of performing regular tasks like web browsing and office
>tfw you know you'll never destroy an android using a paradoxical statement because anyone competent enough to program an android would know to handle those exceptions
>tfw you might because you know esoteric paradoxes the average android programmer would not
The picture I uploaded is my current phone.
I am looking to upgrade to a smart phone. I will be waiting until black friday to buy my new phone. My budget is $650. I do not want any apple or windows products. Apple is overpriced and windows does not respect my privacy or right to consent.
what would /g/ recommend. I would prefer for the phone to have a finger print scanner and be waterproof but those are not required.
anything android does not respect your privacy, be it samsung or nexus or LG
Apple is overpriced and shittier with every release, but that's probably the best you'll get in terms of privacy. That's not to imply it isn't riddled with flaws and non-botnet, it's just as far as you'll get.
>he spent more than $60 on a laptop
