What went right?
Search engines that aren't google, why do they all fucking suck? DuckDuckGo rarely brings up the best results, Startpage is a bit better for websearch but still way worse than Google. Both are absolute garbage if you're searching images or videos.
I don't know, I haven't used Google at all in a year and Duckduckgo just about always has the result I seek on the first page. Startpage, not so much and I have no idea why since they use Google's results as I understand.
Hey /g/, which library is better, Qt or GTK.
The only advantage to using GTK that I can see is not having to use C++, but desu writing C++ isn't too bad, especially if you use C-like C++, using a limited subset of C++ features
What does /g/ think?
What made you decide to become a code monkey and not an ideas guy?
How does /g/ hide their privacy in the WWW and in the Deep- and Darknet?
Do you guys use some special proxyserver or proxychaining?
Special VPN Services in different countries?

I'm more worried about Google, Facebook, and other ad companies than I am about three-letter agencies. After all, the government spooks would much rather just get access to the existing pile of information that Google has than collect it themselves.
I'm thinking of splitting my web browsing into a couple of VMs so that I can a.) more easily browse certain sites through Tor or a VPN, and b.) roll the VM back to a snapshot when I'm done, to get in the way of persistent tracking.
You're close. You need 2 VMs. One install is a fairly normal desktop install. The second is a basic install with just Tor installed. Adjust the networking so that the desktop VM can't get to the internet. The Tor VM needs two interfaces--one inside that can talk to the desktop VM and the other that is out to the world. Firewall the Tor machine so that no traffic can get out other than Tor traffic. Then you have a nice isolated desktop VM to use to get on Tor, but it can't give out any information on you.
Best printer for a medium-sized doctor's office (15 or so workers)? Needs fax and scanning capabilites, too. Budget is semi flexible. Thanks, /g/
970 users of /g/ has Nvidia told us how to claim our 30 dollars yet? Or are they going to be jews, and be quiet about it until some gets mad again?
They gonna be quiet until everyone forgot about it, then they'll release the information in secret in some extremely hard to find place to make sure as little people as possible will apply for it.
That's basically how all the companies do it to ensure they pay out as little as possible.
I got a email from newegg mentioning the claim, so I'm guessing whatever site you bought it from will send you an email mentioning how to get your rebate.
So, aside from the obvious which is the Start Menu, which many folks don't even use often, why does this system in particular either get overlooked or disliked so much?
>Get start menu replacement program
Bam, no more metro bullshit and now its faster and better than windows 7
You can even get custom themes to get aero back if the flat colors design triggers you enough
Both Windows 8 and 10 have trouble dealing with older games. I don't need a new OS that's going to make my old shit obsolete.
Ripping my Blu Ray collection. What is a good trade off for quality/file size? Is VP9 or h.265 ready for daily use?
They both are ready. No hardware acceleration yet in most devices, but non-ancient hardware is capable of software decoding.
I heard H.265 offers a bit better quality with same bitrate, but I like >muh freedums.
As a bonus, all browsers are capable of playing WebM videos, and the WebM container only supports VP9 and VP8, but that's probably irrelevant for home videos.
>As a bonus, all browsers are capable of playing WebM videos, and the WebM container only supports VP9 and VP8, but that's probably irrelevant for home videos.
This would be nice for Plex servers. Probably go with VP9. Does anyone have suggestions on quality? At what point do you notice artifacting and quality loss?
ITT: we post good free (gratis or libre) software
Dolphin is a file browser from KDE. It's built on top of the Qt windowing library. It's very customizable and intuitive
It's part of KDE, so it targets GNU/Linux, but it runs on Mac OS X and MS Windows
whoops, forgot pic
look at those nice thumbnails :D
Well I need to tell you that Manjaro is the most stable distro I ever used.
It also has the best and (literally) bug-free KDE of all distros out there.
I had a long history of different distros and DEs with much headache and incompatibility with my laptop but then I found the best thing.
God damn I feel so proud of that small Manjaro team making this distro so good and optimized.
I highly recommend to anyone seeking KDE environment and maybe a gateway to Arch.
I remember that meme. You are pathetic for trying to discredit me by using that stale stupid meme. I've been using Manjaro since January, zero problems encountered. I almost myself dont believe this.
>It also has the best and (literally) bug-free KDE of all distros out there
You're an idiot. Manjaro does nothing to contribute to KDE Plasma, nor do they fix any bugs or anything relevant.
>God damn I feel so proud of that small Manjaro team making this distro so good and optimized.
They're piggy-backing off other people's work and adding a new wallpaper and theme.
Are there any good books to really learn how linux works? Preferably e-books.
I don't mean just how to use the command line. I'd like to learn the ins and outs of how everything works on a basic level so i can have a better idea of what I'm doing rather than blindly copying and pasting commands in a terminal.
I've just started pic related but don't know if its exactly what I'm looking for
well i found this site that seems to be more like what im looking for. so maybe a book that goes into greater detail?
>pic related because spam filter
Was thinking about getting my first smartphone and that phone that caught my attention was Sony Xperia Z.
What am I in for? Various sites and reviewers say this phone is very good. Is it true?
No, sadly it;s not true. While the phone may be good in price and hardware, it runs the world shittiest OS software - Android.
Don't be fooled by hardware reviews - its the software that makes this phone absolute garbage.
But if you are buying an Android phone, its not too bad a choice.
You wont be any more disappointed with it than any other devices that is Android powered.
Anyone still using cock.li ?
Is it at least worth to use for some shitty accounts on web?
Just used it a moment ago to join discord. What's wrong with it?
I'm sick of windows, help me choose a linux distro.
I'm a webdev fag who runs a hackintosh as desktop but I need something for my laptop. Is elementaryOS any good?
Elementary is basically Ubuntu with another desktop environment, which is better than Unity IMHO.
It's subjective, try some distro in a VM or in the live environment and choose the one you like better.
The pic related workstation, the HP XW6600 Workstation, has the following
2 x Intel Quad Core L5420 2.5GHz CPU's ( 8 cores total)
All for €260 in Yuropoorland, throw in a cheapo SSD and run Linux, is that a decent workstation for the money?
I have a very similar workstation - HP XW-6400. Very similar configuration. You're lucky it's got the max RAM in it already because it was a bitch to get that part right.
It's a great workstation if you don't care about efficiency.
Isn't Funtoo better than Gentoo? Why is everyone telling me to install Gentoo?
There's also SourceMage, which is even better.
I was wondering on how to approach the QT license clusterfuck.
> Released some software 2months ago
> proprietary and paid
> only god can judge me
> customers are complaining that it's too complicated to edit 5lines of a config file
> Decide to write a GUI
> Know my way around qt but am confused about the whole LGPL/GPL3 License shit

Is the Zenbook UX305 any good? I'm thinking the 256gb/8gb ram edition, mainly used for university. It's either that or the 128gb macbook pro. The mac is obviously more expencive, but is it worth it?
What would be the better choice a memepad to dual boot.
Windows 10 already installed working fine ero problems for months
But antergos with xfce4 or xubuntu?
both are good choices right now I'm on Antergos with xfce which works perfectly fine. Switched to it after a bad distro-upgrade with Xubuntu. It's as easy to install and the AUR has everything you could need to install in your memepad.
>only 29% better multi-core performance
>only 19% better single-core performance
>302% higher price
Why do people still unironically buy intel again?
On a serious note, I'm not touching anything derived from the reason AMD is doing so badly right now. Have Zen beat a 3570k while giving double the cores and quadruple threads and I'll switch immediately.
Intex Aqua Fish running Sailfish OS is available for purchase in India for Rs 5,499, or about $82.
HOW TO INSTALL ARCH ON X220 WITH GOOD?
>5 years old phone
>Runs 6.0 godly
It was my first Android
Sold it in two weeks
I was extremely annoyed about the heat after fifteen minutes of use
Every other flagship i used had the same issue including my last flagship the s6
Now i stick to midrange
They get the job done and you can hold it without giving yourself a burn
>listening to some music on my phone
>feel it get hot
>battery monitor says 45c and climbing
>feel the throttling down through lockscreen lag
>check battery consumption, antutu eats as much battery as the music app
>antutu not in recent apps
>antutu downloaded from play store
>antutu was consuming data
Was I botnetted...

CPUs. is now the time to upgrade? I want to buy a new processor soon but i was wondering if there is anything i should wait for? not really interested in zen.
>move to new area
>every provider charges exorbitant amounts and according to everyone has supremely shitty service
When will this shit end? The U.S. has some of the worst internet quality among 1st world countries, and it seems like 9/10 ISPs give absolutely zero shits about caring for their customers.
Are you getting one?
Pirates go to reddit.
My digital life is the place to crack windows, make a fucking account already.
If you just made a new PC, you need to plug your monitor into the graphics card, not the mobo.
So I'll get a Dell workstation t3600 with a e5-1650 xeon some non ECC RAM a non specified 425W psu etc.
Some anon said it probably will just have a 6-pin connector. Can I simply get a new psu and put any card in there?
Is Lisp the most powerful programming language?
