Is there any reason to still use CRTs?
Do graphic designers and industry professionals still prefer them or has the LCD masterrace supplanted them here too?
I use one for video games.
It was free, plus you can't really beat 1600x1200 75hz or 2048x1536 60hz when you're not willing to spend more than a couple of hundred dollars per upgrade
>people who call a directory "folder"
What went wrong?
There are people on this board RIGHT NOW that are still using 1080p.
hey i want to start my youtube channel. This is all i could find in my local shops. should i buy this for voice recording?i just want to have a decent voice quaity.
make your own from old/dead stuff around the house or from friends/relatives.
Is it ever too late to start programming? I'm 25 and keep hearing about 9 year olds coding and it makes me feel like there's no hope.
Ok /g/, I'm going to write the thesis for my BS in Computer Engineering. I have to write some kind of software, but I don't want it to be the usual shitty Android app, so give me help with some cool ideas, like a small OS for a Raspberry Pi. Bonus points for low level stuff
Is Lisp the most powerful language?
From one point of view all languages are equally powerful. From another, the more "patterns" you have, the less powerful the language is.
Personally, I think the ability to prove theorems at compile-time is powerful. So I learned the Shen dialect of Lisp; and also the Ciao extensions to Prolog. Then after all that I decided power was not, in fact, what I wanted but simplicity so went back to Oberon-07.
Why does no one mention that you can install alternative DEs or "Shells" in windows like you can on Linux?
Isn't one of the main reasons Linux gets promoted here so much the availability of choice and desktops and shit? You can do most of that on windows too apparently.
Is it safe to dust a mobo with a brush? I heard that even touching an electronic board may cause short circuits.
Pic related is my PSP
Just wash it in the sink like everyone else.
> I heard that even touching an electronic board may cause short circuits.
You heard wrong
The only thing it can cause is ESD, for which practically all semiconductor implement a protection

Dead tech, nostalgia tech etc.
So why didn't they just turn off PCs automatically? Why push the button?
I could never understand why as a kid. Fucking waiting around 2 minutes sometimes for the family PC to finally shut down.
What app does /g/ use to track her expenses?
When did you give up doing more work than necessary just to run an operating system?
This shit is stuck
I want to buy the nVidia Shield TV with the 500Gb HDD, but I have a couple of questions on you owning one.
I will use it primarily as a movie player and a YouTube player for TV in the living room. I store my movies on a NAS.
1) Can I access the desktop without turning on the TV? You know, when I wanna listen to music, I would appreciate to control and see the content on my phone/tablet.
2) Is there a way to cut off the Internet connection from the Shield completely? With a simple app or something, that will denie it from reaching Internet connection?
Also, are you happy with it? Is it comfy?
wtf https everywhere
>there are people still punishing themselves with noscript + requestpolicy
also you don't need https everywhere on your navbar at all times, move it in the drawer
What mice are there which support "free scrolling"?
I had a G500 for several yours until its left button broke.
As a replacement, I bought the G502 but I'm not too satisfied with it.
It has some kind of back swing. If I scroll down a page and release the wheel it sometimes scrolls a bit back up, which is irritating to say the least.
But I couldn't find any manufacturers besides Logitech which build a decouplable mouse wheel.
>If I scroll down a page and release the wheel it sometimes scrolls a bit back up, which is irritating to say the least.
Oh wow, they're still using the same shit encoders.
I had the same problem on some Logitech mice 10 years ago.
Why does my Macbook Pro 2015 crash every few days if I don't shut it down regularly? I've kept Windows and Linux machines powered for months, why can't this mac stay on without glitching the fuck out?
Would you ever buy refurbished tech?
I'm poor and I want a video card, what is the best I can do spending at MOST $150?
Ideally I would want to play games such as fallout 4 on very high, GTA V on high and witcher 3 on medium at 45+ fps on 1200p.
Willing to sacrifice visual quality if it means significant money savings. I've been looking at the GTX 960, R9 380, R7 360 and GTX 750 but can't decide which one is better.
Can you help me /g/?
Thoughts on this?
What gpu for watching anime with madvr high settings @ 1080p?

How do they know this? Is Linux botnet?
They look at web traffic surveys and the associated user agent data which generally contains:
Which web browser and its version data
The host operating system and its version data
>Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/41.0.2228.0 Safari/537.36
Is the user agent string for Chrome 41 on Windows 7

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU from a GTX 950 to something that will allow me to play some of the newer games on at least 60fps.
I was thinking of getting the GTX 1060, but I had some worries about how the RX 480 outperformed the 1060 on the Doom Vulkan patch, and what that might mean for the future of the 1060.
What do you guys think?
(I'm an Ausfag on a budget)
Lol, There is no "Nvidia vs. AMD", that ended a long time ago.
I downloaded Spybot Anti-Beacon and changed all my settings to disallow any data gathering and halt automatic updates
How safe, realistically, am I now?
Is there anything else I can do?
Well, if you consider that, according to Microsoft's ToS/EULA, Windows 10 only sends anonymous data that won't be linked to you as a person...
You aren't any safer than you were before. But enjoy your placebo effect.
