Arch or Debian
I know this is a very broad type of question but is there a reason other than open package system, customization and philosophy to use arch over debian ? base debian and not any variant.
Both are good. Arch uses fewer dependecies. AUR is great. Pacman is great. Up to date. Runs swell. I like debian. I used netinstall for awhile. But switched to Arch a few weeks back. Not looking back.
Both are good distros. Debian has a cool logo and does well. Arch is just better imo
But depend son what you use for. If you're running something small and need server or just one simple task. debian may be better.
For a desktop. Arch
Don't buy their SSD's, just get the HDD.
You can get a higher quality SSD for cheaper and install it yourself. Or Go the M.2 route and keep your HDD in it for extra storage.
Just got a MBP, long time windows and linux user. First experience with OS X is... surprisingly good.
Who out there is playing with their based Apple ][s? Any model. I need to nostalgia.
Mine broke. My collections still small. Have a functional TRASH-80 and a functional ZX Spectrum, 8 or 9 broken iconic home computers that I have a good idea of what's wrong, my Apple ][ being one of them. I have an Altair 8800 that's completely FUBAR.
My dream is to fix or have fixed all of those and then buy a minicomputer or some bread
Ask a guy who is installing Fedora anything
You have 35 seconds starting from NOW to explain why you aren't using the processor architecture of the future, ARM RISC.
Power saving cause the dolla bill's getting rare
Power liftin with my shitload of registers
Power cruisin cause >market share, yo
RISC > CISC bitches, try to keep up with me.
Is Ubuntu a solid distro to install? If not, what makes it trash? If so, what are its strengths?
I'm running Crunchbang at the moment and am considering reformatting to Ubuntu.
yes ubuntu is fine. some people don't like unity, but there are several other desktops available (kubuntu, lubuntu, etc..). it was strongly criticised for its integration of the amazon search integration but that can be disabled. tons of available software and every dumb question has been asked before on some forum.
Daily reminder to
I'm on all the ones you want to get on, except for HDBits, which is a bitch to get into. I'll get in someday, though.
Ask me anything.

So, in 2014 space flight is no more interesting..
Well, for one, there has been little innovation in spaceflight for decades.
For it to be interesting to me at this point, either some new kind of drive must be invented, or there must be some (manned) mission beyond the moon. Neither is likely to happen in my lifetime, the way things are going on the ground.
What is your favorite Linux distro, and why?
Because you can't say "no" to distro which has Chaos Star for its logo.
What do you prefer?
or Capacitive buttons?
please specify why you don't like the others.
