2.5" vs 3.5" external harddrive, what's better?
The rest are Macbooks
Bow before the Apple overlords
i have a macbook and before this thread has 100+ replies, everyone just chill the fuck out. if you think your computer is limiting your productivity (or theirs), then you're a fucking troglodyte.

I've tried to port NASAs ten code commandments (http://pixelscommander.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/P10.pdf) to any language including scripting.
Is there any program like this (but free)?
Is there any multi-system backup service with end-to-end encryption? Like so
>open source client
>encryption key must be manually entered on all devices
>host knows nothing about file content
>phone contacts, documents on pc, etc.
I know, I could write it myself but I know jackshit about android programming and I have no server with full shell access.
Is NoSQL a meme? Why the fuck should I dedicate any time learning for example MongoDB instead of sticking to SQL systems like MariaDB on SQLite?
>technology only you seem to care about
Physical keyboards on phones.
>he's not using a $35 iPhone 4 with replaceable internals
Do you like wasting money?
Lets be real here yes it is cheap to repair but the power button and bezel is it weak point because the flex cable of the power button is retardedly wrapped around a small metal part that need both be glued and screwed I'm (I'm also thinking the volume buttons here, because they are on the same cable). The bezel have a tendency to bend just from you using it and it can be a bitch getting a new one that is in good quality.
It is is almost cheaper to get another one then repairing them.
What is the best distro for programming type of work?
Any programmers here that make actual money use gnu/linux?
I want to believe that I don't need Windows.
There's no such thing as a standard distro in actual use.
Everybody has to tweak the crap out of whatever distro they wind up with.
Every time a distro has been rolled out in an organisation Microsoft has been able to reclaim the account within months. Why? Distros, universally, aren't usable as they come. By the time they've been sorted out the savings are gone.
Laptop is really old,and it can barely play any game or run some heavy programs without lagging like shit. So what's a good build?Should I wait for the am4 boards?
>Should I wait for the am4 boards?
save your pennies then get kaby with a 1060/ti/480
take a look at these lists
yep, the page is in german but these lists are easy to understand. just pick the best (most top) cpu/graphic card you want and can afford
depending on your cpu choice, pick a good mainboard
Just ordered a 4GB 480. How fucked am I?
Is there any non-shareware program to manage that new piece of shit start menu?
>'add to start' won't work for 80% of links
>background color of items picks itself at random
>icons inconsistent as fuck
>can't even find the option for neat patters
what is the best laptop I can get for my mum for less than ~250 $? Should I go for a Thinkpad or look for a second hand Macbook? Remember this is for "mum use" so I'm not interested in a lot of space or good graphics cards.
>work as a software engineer
>come home after work and do programming instead of having strictly non-computer interests
surely you must be some sort of autist if you do this
the most competent develoepers I know don't touch a single line of code in their free time, and neither do I
Just bought a 144hz tn panel monitor...
Top left corner of the screen is darker than rest of the screen, though it doesnt bother me in-game.
Is this normal or common in tn panels to have uneven brightness?
What is hard drive encryption and how do i do it?
It comes in various forms, but the basic principle is that all data stored on your hard drive is encrypted. In order to access any data, the code needs to be entered at start-up which then stores the key in RAM, allowing you to access/write data. After the machine is shut-down, the code is wiped from RAM and must be re-entered to access the drive again.
Bitlocker is one form of it. Some hardware manufacturers have their own implementations. Do not forget your key or you are fucked.
If you're using Windows, for most intents and purposes Bitlocker is fine. Someone will probably respond to this stating otherwise, but if you are at that level of neckbeard-paranoid, you really shouldn't be using Windows in the first place.
If you're using Linux, dm-crypt will be your run-of-the-mill option, but I would advise doing research on all existing types of full disk encryption and see what people using your *nix distro prefer and why.
Is setting up dm-crypt in Ubuntu enough to keep myself safe?
How do we fix the Windows® Tablet?
>From October 2016 onwards, Windows will release a single Monthly Rollup that addresses both security issues and reliability issues in a single update.
Is windows 7 dying this month?
MS can force update packages and install whatever they want now, you don't even know what are you installing
>he calls his case a "tower"
So this is a thing now
What are our alternatives?
Tell me your opinions on Tails.
So I recently got this rather old amplifier from a friend of mine, it still works perfectly and is in good working condition.
The issue is that I really need to find out how much does this thing consume power, mainly when idling since I am planning on just having it on most of the time. If it drains the 288W constantly, it's going to be a rather expensive amp in terms of electricity.
I've checked the manuals, tried googling and send an email to pioneer support (no response) without any success.
There is nothing that would indicate the "class"...

Is there a drum app on Android that has no noticeable lag? I'm using Galaxy Note 3 and I'm having slight delays on Real Drum.
On the other hand, I tried a similar app on iPad and there was almost no delay, but sadly I don't have the device now so I'm stuck with Android.
> sadly I don't have the device
Android and iOS handle audio differently. You can't achieve the same low latency on Android.
A reminder that DX12 is awesome for everyone when acually implemented properly.
AMD wasn't able to sabotage gears 4 by:
1. forcing the Nvidia driver to only utilize 1 thread instead of many. AMD eliminates driver threading completely on Nvidia hardware.
2. by heavily focusing on Async even when completely unnecessary.
can we All agree that AMD is cancer?
AMD are bunch of backward retards
They have 15 years old bugs in their GPU drivers across all platforms.
using their shitty products is pure suffering
they are not providing any competition at all to nvidia and intel
Its /guts/ time
because no one made on today I made one ...b-be-because I CAN !
Show us ya rig
>1060 6GB is 250
>half the price of any itteration of xbox one's
>all games are now windows 10 native compatible
why the fuck would anyone buy a xbox at this point?
not even a meme, literally just
What does /g/ use for a homepage?
I'm looking to set-up something minimal, weather and a google search bar or something, wondering what you guys use.
Work, school, and probably depression leave me too drained to program, even though I have a ton of projects I want to do. How do you /g/entlemen deal with major burnout? Between work and school I'm doing around 60 hours a week of crap and I'm slowly falling behind in both areas, so I never feel like I should be programming because I should be doing something important.
Tl;Dr What do you guys do to get in the mood for working on a project when you're burned out.
