What keyboard do you have and use, /g/? Also, fuck the mechanical keyboard thread. Let's just have a general keyboard thread.

How'd I do, /g/?
Novice programmer here, getting into the swing of things. Currently I use Sublime Text 2(which isn't even a IDE), but should I move on to Vim/Emacs? And which one should I use?
If you're just getting started with programming then don't bother with power editors yet. They'd just slow you down. I'm not familiar with Sublime but anything that lets you build and run your software with one action (click/keybind) is fine.
I don't use Windows on my personal computers, but I am required to use Windows 7 for work. On rare occasions, I do need to access personal documents and accounts through my work PC. As a result, I am somewhat concerned about the supposed privacy-infringing updates that Microsoft has pushed to Windows 7, and I would like to avoid them.
I've freshly installed Windows 7 on the system, what should I do about the Windows Updates? Are the some I should install, and some that I shouldn't?
If you're using a custom image provided by your company, it's most likely properly sanitized and will only communicate with your company's network, which will deploy updates and such.
What do you use to change file formats? I need to change from mov to avi.
media converter 8
youll need a key but you can find one on the internet that works in like 1 minute. its super useful and i use it all the time when i torrent stuff in MKV format.
works for almost any format you could need

The most ridiculous and stupid tech move of our generation was switching out horizontal cases in favor of vertical gay cases. And you are all responsible for this. Yes your fucking faggot, you. Just look at that vertical case of yours and realize you should do mankind a favor and rip out your testicles right now. People who defend this shit has no business procreating.

There is a laptop at work that nobody has used for over a year, a thinkpad, something like this, i know it has an i7 processor. I thought about swiping it to use at home. If i wipe and replace the hard drive, will that take care of any tracking software that might be installed? or should i just not bother at all?
Does it bother you that Chrome eats so much RAM or do you consider this a just price to pay for fast performance and good stability?
Chrome uses up to 1.5GB of RAM when I browse the web but it's never been something I really cared about since my laptop has 6GB of RAM.
I used to love Firefox but recently they started to add shit I didn't care about and the performance/RAM usage got way worse than it used to be.
I use Chrome even though I know Google steals my private information.
Is a MacBook good for uni doing computer science, compiling a shit ton of lines of code? If not, what else do you recommend?
I'll definitely install gentoo of course
So few days ago i was testing noise levels of my new case fans (Cooler Master poor tier fans) so i bumped them to different fan curve profiles but i couldn't distinguish the noise of case fans from my R9 270X's fans, so i turned all of the fans in my pc off (cpu, gpu and psu fans) to hear how they perform on their own, but i had to go to work and i forgot it like that, so for a few days after that they were off which i did not realise since i forgot what i did. I could not figure out why was my gpu stuck at 92'C, and cpu (FX 6350) at 70'C+ in Fallout 4 since...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Hm... I don't think you got the point, components were idling and were around 28-35'C with fans off while i was checking stuff. The point is that i made a mistake and nothing died, or was damaged, i checked with several stress tests.
what if we started our own boot camp /g/?
I always see people saying they want to learn programming or have just started. Why not band together for support? Project ideas etc.
Veterans could also help so we can have /g/ level programmers.
I don't know, what do you think?
