Thinkpad HATE thread.
Fact 1: They are overpriced
Fact 2: They have no USP (unique selling points). It's just a generic laptop
Fact 3: Their quality is exactly average.
Thinkpad comparable to a Macbook Pro 13:
ThinkPad X240. It costs at least 1700€ in a comparable configuration. It's actually MORE expensive to get a Thinkpad than to get a Macbook.
And yet the Macbook Pro 13 still has 6-9 hours of battery life compared to the Thinkpads 3-6h and better build quality by some margin.
I literally bought a Macbook because it was the CHEAPEST laptop in that range.
the reason why there is so much hate on /g/ against macbooks is that it's easy to get a used chinkpad from craigslist with a 20% discount for sucking off the seller. so you can brag about spending 200$ and getting a decent C2D machine.
while macs however have a much higher resell value. a C2D macbook pro will go around 300$ or even 400$
it's stupid to compare new chinkpads to new macbooks. people who can afford to buy a new computer don't visit /g/
My Macbook air 13 is built much better than my T420 was. It's thinner, faster, and gets better battery life. It was also cheaper and I can walk 5 minutes to the mall to get support for it instead of shipping it to some third world country
As a thinkpad user, he's actually not wrong.
My thinkpad has all sorts of cracks in it due to its age, granted it's a secondhand laptop and I bought it for cheap but back when I had a macbook it was a higher quality build.
I remember my first macbook
Had to send the thing in for repair 3 times the first year and I barely used the thing.
Opened it up and the half the screen would be black.
I'm really surprised to hear that actually. I have both a macbook and thinkpad, but my thinkpad has held up much better over time. I even have a thinkpad from maybe 15yrs ago which is still in pretty good condition cosmetically.
To make things even more interesting, my t430 was thrown across my office maybe 3 times and it has yet to break the case. Makes me wonder if certain batches have lower QA or something.
>Makes me wonder if certain batches have lower QA or something.
I think it might just be certain models that are shittier than others.
What I have is a T400, not exactly the golden titty of the thinkpad line.
have you ever been as far as have actually decided to understand that people treat their hardware differently and it's borderline autistic to judge product quality based on pretentious postings on the internet?
I spent ages looking online at all sorts of laptop configs trying to figure out what to buy. You either end up with something cheap that reflects the price, or you spec something up that comes to £1500+ with added extras and looks like shit with one or more known flaws.
I went to a store that had the entire Lenovo range, tried them all out and they feel disgusting. The trackpads feel like McDonalds toys and the keyboards are simply offensive to type on. I was horrified, and all the other manufacturers feel exactly the same.
Went to the apple store immediately and got a 15" MBP, I don't like the keyboard but it touched all of the other boxes. New Thinkpads are trash.
I really really hate the aesthetics of thinkpads. Generic/sleek/minimalist my ass, it's almost gamurr laptop tier.
>omg black with red bits, soooo elegant :^)
FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING PLEB, GET SOME TASTE.
im simply objectively evaluating the situation.
if you want to know: the surface pro 3 came very close to me buying it, I pretty much only bought the macbook because I never had a macbook before and wanted to expand my horizons and I heard about overheating issues with the surface pro
calm your tits, it was an observation made from experience. i am rough with my hardware, one proved to handle it better than the other. does not make it law, nor does it make it invalid.
actually believing that Apple would pay people to shill here
>b-b-boss I need money to advertise our products on this website
>what's it called?
>it's the slash geeee slash board of 4chan
>4chin? what the hacker on steroids who stole all those nude photos?
>n-n-no it's an image board based on Futaba source code
>b-b-ut sir it's a huge opportunity! Imagine the endless revenue stream we could get if we could convert it's users!
>what's the average visitor like?
>uhmm... 25 year old NEET with borderline autism and no practical skills whatsoever
>get out and never come back
The selling point is the price range man, you can get a laptop with 4gigs of ram a few hundred gigs of hdd and a third generation pentium with above average build quality for ~150, and you can get one with a built in wacom digitizer for the same damn price, the x series tablets are definitely the best value for the dollar but around 100 for a laptop that can do just about all the simple shit you want it to is not bad at all man
Trackpoint, thinklight, lid with latch, removable battery with 6 or 9 cells, 3-button trackpad, water drains on the keyboard, thinkvantage button.
These aren't things that I like, since then I'd have included more like the front-facing speakers. These are things that make Thinkpads stand out and be totally not generic. Of course a lot of these were lost with the T430.
totally agreed. that clit like thingy is great
useless. in 2014 backlit keyboard does what thinklight was meant to do in 1998
>lit with latch
useless. MacBooks have magnets that keep the lid closed. you can open it with one finger but it will never snap open on it's own
son, this is 2014, not 1998
had to google what it does, still no clue
Embossed text, false claims and red colored text. Don't have to be a doctor to understand that it's severe autism. No evidence, no references, no nothing. I feel sorry for the sick mind who put that together.
The list lacks ad-hominem attacks.
I use plenty of Apple products and have never been paid by Apple for stating my opinion on the internet. Where do I collect my paycheck?
This just proves I was right all along. Not a single fact
>People still think that company paid shills are some boogieman shit
You guys are certified retarded, companies that hinge on being seen as hip spend a fucking lot of money trying out advertising that realistically is only designed to have people thinking about their product, the context of which is almost never important to who they outsource the procedure to.
Case in point: If you live in a major metropolitan area a company has:
1) Paid a doorman to allow a stack of boxes with a company logo to stay in-front of a high end building you've passed
2) Given a free extended test drive for a new vehicle to someone with a prominent driving route
3) Posted a notice for writers (typically in a setting with college age nobodies) to shill for a particular angle
Picture Related: Its an ad for tourism-centric shilling online
Performance/price on used models
Better build quality, specs, battery life, and less weight than other business class competition
Longest lasting laptops of all time
Rollcage and should survive the most abuse out of any normal laptop
which one? i've been selling Tab s' saying that they had the most ram you could find on a tablet
>not even joking
>i'm a sales promoter and the brand i represented this last months was samsung mobility
There you have it. Also, I don't believe in your 3-6h battery time - on an X230 you should easily get 10 hours (I've got about 12-14 hours).
>better build quality
Thinkpads are nearly indestructible. On the other hand I once had to bring back a MacBookPro 13" because of a little humidity that caused a short circuit on the keyboard, rendering the whole machine unbootable. They had to replace the entire fucking top case because Apple engineering.
>it's stupid to compare new chinkpads to new macbooks. people who can afford to buy a new computer don't visit /g/
This is the dumbest statement I've read on 4chan in a long time.
The second part is pants on head retarded but the first is not in the least.
Chinkpads are shit, even the most stringent Thinktrap will attest to this. People asking about Chinkpads are usually BTFO of /tpg/ threads as they are irrelevant to what /g/entlemen buy Thinkpads for.
Case in point:
My x220 cost me $240 kitted out and I can attest that it kicks a comparable macbook air's ass in just about every way I give a shit about.
