how can i set pic related as my plymouth theme?
I'm getting a Fire TV for Christmas.
I want to use Plex for chinese cartoons, so mkv files.
Pic related is my toaster.
Will it work out?
How do I fix this? GTK3.10 looks like this outside of Gnome.
Can somebody on here help me out a little? I need to cut the price down to 650-700ish, not really sure what to downgrade so I don't lose a lot of performance.
I'd like SLI/Crossfire support for the reason of a partial upgrade later on. And comp isn't for me so I wouldn't like to rule that for them by getting them a motherboard that doesn't support it
My parents want a new laptop and don't want to spend more than $500 bucks if they don't have to
Are there any good deals going on right now?
They want it to be 15" and I want it to last them a while, the hp they have now is unbearable to use after all these years.
>Also, how long does Arch take to boot compared to windows 7?
Depends how much crap you install on either one. After a year, windows will have slowed the fuck down due to windows rot and Arch will be pretty much the same as when you first installed it
Glorious. If I learned those 3 things and started working for myself (start a small company) combined with some webstuff like html and maybe php, would I be able to make a living?
I'm seeiing all these complicated things like terminal, drivers shells and package manager. If I learned C would I get better at it or is this common knowledge and do I just need to read up on how computers work?
Why most of people here recommend LibreOffice when WPS looks 1000 times better?
I don't know about functionality but looks like WPS perfectly copied Excel so i doubt it lacks something Libre has
Learning a programming language would differentially help you to stop being such a pleb about all those things. You'll actually begin to prefer them over gui's because you'll realize you can do things 10x times as efficient.
Would the best prevention of software piracy be creating your own programming language or even an OS?
You could use Arch without knowing anything really. They make it harder than it seems to use but your probably going to be googling alot.Just read the wiki and have pretty general knowledge of linux and within two weeks youll be fine
I'll install Arch on my laptop once I got a new pc. I'm new to Linux but I only need it for school, mainly Vim, and I want to rice the shit out of it to impress all the kids.
I'm learning how to data-mine and am currently trying to get all the imgur links on reddits front page. This is what I have so far:curl -s www reddit com | grep "href=\"http://i.imgur.com/" | cut -d\" -f10
(I removed the dots in the reddit url because m00t) I can't figure out how to correctly cut it so that I get the full imgur link. Every field I've been trying has failed me. What do? (this is curl and bash btw).
>inb4 go back to leddit xD
I didn't need any help today when I installed Linux MINT for dual-booting with Windows 7. Thanks anyway /g/.
I might have some questions later though.
If you don't see the point, don't buy one, simple.
They are used when you need to interface with something or control something.
I don't know how, but my approach to solving your problem would be to first try using curl for something simple; perhaps just reading the page from top to bottom, then start finding the images, and then getting the links.
What does /g/ recommend to use for emulating GBA/DS/PSP/PSX games on linux?
Also what do you use to emulate android on linux as well?
I want to set firefox to delete all cookies when closing it.
But I want to whitelist some pages where I want it to keep them.
Is there an addon that can do that?
I don't want to block all cookies, some sites break when doing that and I don't want to login everytime on some sites.
>perhaps just reading the page from top to bottom, then start finding the images, and then getting the links.
Uh, I'm already getting the full page with curl. I'm greping imgur so all the imgur links are highlighted in the terminal. What I'm having trouble with is cutting out the directories of the images.
I'll try, thanks.
I'm currently running Ubuntu on my server, where I host two websites, owncloud, and some other random stuff for fun and learning.
But I run arch as my main OS, and want to install this on my server as well. I could backup the files, take it down, reinstall and move the files, but that'll give too much downtime which I obviously don't want.
What's my best solution? Is it possible to shrink the partition, make a new ext4, install arch on that one, move over the files, reboot, delete the original partition (but keep the boot-partition), and the expand the new partition? All this with only one reboot?
> I'm not a robot
>bought this prebuilt pc for cheap off a friend since i'm poor
>want to upgrade parts of it over time
>unsure what parts to change
I know i definitely want to change the graphics card and the mother board, i'll most likely chuck it all in a nice case as well, i'm just unsure if i should be changing anything else?
Yes. You could use the pins or a USB-interface to control the drone (both sensors and motors).
You could set it up as a server to seed torrents.
You could set it up as a onion-router, or even exit-point.
All this and more has a plethora of tutorials online.

Every single game I play runs at 60+fps at mostly maximum settings. Every single one except fucking Minecraft which plays at 60 with a bunch of drops while others with my same build do it at 120+fps with no drops. I'm using a 750 ti and an fx-6300. Is it something with drivers? I just went into MSCONFIG and made it so I use all of my cores, that doesn't count as overclocking does it? I'm using the stock fan so it's a little worrying for me.
well you want something cheap bamboo is cheap, but if you find any wacom tablet with a price that is reasonable then go for it.
Since moot policies forbid us from posting links to "spam sites" and reward us with auto ban.
I suggest to search deviant art site for wacom buying guide.
The only thing that can take out other components with it when it fails is a power supply, right?
Cause my computer is occasionally doing weird lock ups for a few seconds and task manager shows my SSD and HDD at 100% usage during them. I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard or RAM dying.
does anyone know any software for windows that will allow me to use virtual workspaces, like what is available in most linux desktops? i have looked into litestep shell replacement, but it is old and unsupported and nothing works. kde plasma has a port for windows but it does not seem to be complete and a bit buggy.
is there any other shell replacements for windows 7, or maybe just standalone software to do this? preferably something fast and not bulky
I have a file in my unix system with a bunch of image links like so:http://i.imgur.com/wqnwgK4.jpg
How would I grab one of those links and put it into an existing html file in the <img></img> tags? I'm having a complete brain fart and can't think of how I'd script it.
Major help needed, I am honestly out of options here. Since the 5.0 update, battery life has begun to tank like mad, and when checking here, Google Play Store and Google Play Services are usually the culprit. Just last night I left my phone fully charged, with pretty everything off except for cellular and nfc. What can I do to prevent these apps from consuming so much battery life?
I have tried using Startup Cleaner to keep certain apps from starting up but it doesn't seem to do anything.
I just rooted my moto g but forgot to update to 4.4.4 before doing so. I don't want to unroot, then update from 4.4.2 but I keep getting a pop up "update available" every time I turn on my phone. Can I disable that somehow?
What's a good media player for mac? For videos preferably.
I happened across a 2007 macbook 13 inch that was being thrown out, and took it. It can't be updated passed 10.6. mpv won't run, and I can't find builds for / a way to build it for 10.6. Obviously no mpc-hc, which is what I'm most familiar with. Don't want VLC for obvious reasons.
There has to be something.
it wipes the cache. the system caches some files in order to speed up accessing them. if this partition becomes big, it'll be as slow as fetching the data directly. so wiping won't hurt you
Also. The CPU supports x86_64, but even when I try to force the OS to load the 64bit kernel, it just loads 32bit.
Why. Both the CPU and OS are capable, it seems artificially limited or there's something I don't know about it.
So I bought this new laptop yesterday, and although I don't really know shit about PCs, it seems like the HDD is making irregular clicking noises which never stop. they're not exactly loud but just odd. Also since I started using it yesterday there's been a few weird screeching noises that lasted no more than a second but all sounded different and seemed like it could be from hardware failure.
Should I just take this shit back? The S.M.A.R.T. test or whatever says it's fine but I really dont know at this point.
I want to add an SSD to my rig,I understand that reinstalling the is on it is generally preferred to copying things over, is there an easy way to wipe just the os from my drive and keep my various files and non important programs or am I better off starting from scratch
My games crash and gives me BSOD. The BSOD reads machine_check_exception. This has started happening when I got my new monitor that could go up to 144hz. The crashing and BSOD only happens when I play games with a refresh rate of 144, it doesn't crash if I leave it at 120. What's happening and how do I fix this? I just want my 144fps.
Searches on google says that I oc'd my cpu too much but I doubt it. I have an i5-4690k oc'd to 4.0.
Torrents are stuck at 0.00%
I use deluge and keep getting this. Any ideas what it could be? I'm trying to download my textbooks for next semester.
not possible. starting from scratch is the way to go
it's a mechanical drive, so it'll do some quiet noise. what you've explained sounds like a faulty read head inside the hdd. i'm a software guy, so i dont know, but this sounds like the hdd is damaged. go to the store you bought it from and say it's making sounds and you had severeal BSODs. they'll replace the hdd
I wanted to buy a RasPi soon, throw openELEC on it and use it as a chinese cartoons, movies and music machine. However then I read that apparently it has problems with Hi10p/10-bit stuff and while I don't really have a clue about video encoding I'm afraid that some of my files won't play. Does anyone here have experience with running openELEC on a Pi? Does it work well or should I look into a better/more expensive HTPC alternative?
i just found two other shell replacements that look decent, but i cant find any information on when they were last updated. cairo shell and sharpenviro. sharpenviro seems to have ended support a few years ago but ive read its still usable.
anyone know about these two programs?
the problem is that hi10p doesn't have hardware support, so you need to decode it on the cpu
so you have two options:
a. make an htpc with a modern desktop cpu that can do hi10p
b. download shows in 8bit or transcode the 10bit ones to 8bit
interesting, how does it run? its a stand-alone program? does it use a lot of resources. but thanks i will definitely look into it, i cannot go back to NOT having virtual workspaces.
from what ive heard: virtual workspaces integrated into the shell, a package manager and general performance increase(supossedly). the package manager looks interesting but currently it does not support a lot of the things necessary to make it good like many of the linux managers, such as managing dependencies. might change in the future though, im hoping so anyway.
WHAT'S THE POINT OF A RETURN STATEMENT FOR PROGRAMMING
WHAT 'S THE FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE FOR AND WHY WOULD YOU NEED IT IF YOU COULD JUST USE A PRINT STATEMENT OTHERWISE TO KNOW THE DATA.
like i said, it gets the job done. i didn't care, whether my workspace flies around with a big ass animation, so i didn't look too much in the configuration.
it's not really standalone, although it worked out of a sandboxie-sandbox. i guess it'll work anyway.
didn't use a lot of resources though, but i don't know, if there are visual things that'll use resources
Assuming all I want to do is a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04, is it safe to just overwrite my current partition of Ubuntu 12.04?
I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 and some things are wonky as fuck. So I think a fresh install would be the best thing to do. I just don't know if the GRUB boot menu will still work properly and whatnot. I'm dual booting with Windows 7 if that matters.
Thanks for the reply. I know it's bound to make some noises, it's just the frequency of them, even while completely idle. Also the incredibly odd "screeching" noises which actually were quite loud. I guess I'll just take it back tomorrow and see if they'll do a replacement.
Ah well. I'm not actually sure which shows I have are actually 10bit so I hope it's not too many. Got any tips for building a htpc? I don't even really know where to start with that one, so the RasPi seemed like a neat, simple choice and it's dirt-cheap.
Google doesn't yield any results so I come to you, /g/.
Will Wayland kill the need for X abi?
Shitty NVIDIA stopped updating my drivers beyond Xabi 14 and I'm stuck with an old Ubuntu version on my device ATM.
Really tired of that shit.
When and if Wayland rolls around, would I not need X abi? Will everything be smooth or does NVIDIA have to update my drivers to support Wayland or smthn?
emerge looks beautiful. dexpot keeps the windows shell. stick with emerge.
i had problems with my laptop's mainboard. said it BSODed couple of times, replaced it. most manufacturers services don't care, they just replace the parts, because it'd be too expensive to do intensive testing
the amd A series cpu's are a good place to start, cheap, integrated gpu (which is more than enough for media center use), fast enough for hi10p, and you won't need a seperate graphics card
with openelec you won't need more than a gig of ram
Srsly pls help
I have a Venue Pro 8 tablet and it has a function to shut down by swiping downward on its screen but I noticed that it doesn't let me do this anymore, is there a way to re-enable it? I couldn't find it in the control panel or search box.
