Decided to ditch Windows for Linux, since it's all you guys talk about.
I decided to get Ubuntu, seeing that it's one of, if not the easiest to use.
So, now that I have this shit installed, wat do?
I still need a DE, will GNOME be good enough?
>Also discuss ubuntu
Unity is fine, unless you mean that for some reason you did a minimal install. Before you worry about ricing you should learn unix commands. This is a good book: http://linuxcommand.org/tlcl.php
Unity isn't all that bad, my only complaint is that the apps menu thing is pretty laggy on older devices. Other than that it's probably the best start. From there you can download other WMs and change things and play with a working system rather than just piecing things together.
Gnome 3 is good yes. Xubuntu is good. umm cinnamon is aight or mate. I started using gnome 3 on arch recently and been enjoying it. of course you can't have a complete shit pc to run it well. but i'm guessing yours is alright.
Gnome 3 was fine when i used it on ubuntu. was my first distro. But it runs great on arch. so i can't say how it is now for ubuntu. since that was over a year ago. But I'm sure it's fine.xubuntu is best buntu though.
Should I be installing every update every few days?
It seems to give me more updates than my Mac.
Yeah, I noticed that. My TV connected to my computer runs Ubuntu. Everything is brilliant with it.
Literally just installed Ubuntu 14.10 on an extra 80Gb HDD i had laying around.
did i do good?
Fuck I thought I posted this an hour ago before I left to the store, came to see the comments. shit.
