Hey faggots. I'm pulling the trigger on a 15 inch, i7, 16gb memory Macbook Pro Retina. Any shitty shilling attempts to stop me? Will be using for CS major.
Yeah, you're gonna love it. Just make sure you don't get Intel Iris, I got that on my current 13 inch and fucking sucks donky dicks; even PDFs lag sometimes because of the Retina.
Iris has problems pushing these many pixels. It's better than the Ivy Bridge chips Apple used in the first generation, but you're much better off with the Nvidia 750M.
looks like I can choose between "high performance" or "effective" graphics, kek
any idea how it will compare to my current system as far as graphics go?
No idea, but it works for me and I can play Dota 2 on pretty low-medium graphics; that's the extent of gaming I do.
I'm not sure if it's Iris or my i5, but I cannot Skype vidchat and watch a video or browse 4chan/tumblr at the same time; Skype uses every last resource of this machine and it fucking sucks.
I bought one a few weeks ago. Maximum fucking around and giggling are in store. Fuck everyone.
>I'm pulling the trigger on a 15 inch, i7
No you're not.
You'll fantasize that you don't have that shitty Toshiba your Dad gave you when his work threw it out.
But you'll never have a good, high-quality laptop, ever.
any of them using the dedicated you will get like 3 hours. unless you run the program to dictate which one you want to use have fun with the dedicated turning on when you visit webpages with anything other than plain text and shit
integrated doesnt pull much power at all. i got about 6-7 on integrated and 3 on dedicated on my 2011 with an ssd. dont expect much difference, there is no 100% no reason to use dedicated anyways unless you are hitting photoshop hard or going to an external display
>I'm not sure if it's Iris or my i5,
If it's a 2013/2014 13" mac its an iris.
you run dota 2 on full hd or native res?
I bought a 15" with a 750m and i still fear that dota2 wil be unplayable...only gaming i do its dota2 and Wargame RD (wich is prolly shit on macs)...too bad it probably won't arrive until next year...
resolution is fucked up, it's running at barely HD, and I can't seem to set it higher. Works fine for what I need it do; doesn't entirely effect my gameplay but the lack of a numpad really hurts since that's where most of my hotkeys are.
>Works fine for what I need it do; doesn't entirely effect my gameplay
Meh, i always fear for slowdowns on intense teamfights...
>the lack of a numpad really hurts since that's where most of my hotkeys are.
Shit, i never had tought about that....
I've been rocking 5k mmr on this so I really don't think it's that much of an issue. It's more of a mental thing than anything else; classic example of the golf set doesn't make the golfer.
Seconding This. I'm third year comp sci. I made fun of the Mac Fags in first year, and i think 1 or 2 made it to second year but now there are none left. Get a thinkpad, we are programmers not graphic designers.
Doctorate in AI doesnt mean shit! You spend more of your time infront of a piece of paper doing math than infront of your laptop.
Not in any reputable university. I once had the highest paid cs prof at my school compliment my T61 as i asked him a question
>All you faggets comparing graphics
>Will be using for CS Major
>Let me calculate how much graphical power is required to run a text editor and compile code.
Tl;dr Get a 4:3 T61 and Code more Procrastinate Less
>>Let me calculate how much graphical power is required to run a text editor and compile code.
a lot of fucking horsepower at 2880x1800 running the most bloated desktop environment possible
>the most bloated desktop environment possible
You can always just switch it to a lower resolution and dick around with init.rc to switch to Sawfish or whatever. What's the problem?
I bought a late 2013 15" and it's served me well in my CS courses. Xcode is a pretty nice IDE, and the terminal has basic functionality. Try to find one used and save some money.
I own a 17 inch 2011 Retina display. And while the form factor is super nice (ugh, so thin and simple) it's kind of a waste of money.
The hardware spends so much resources on keeping up the crisp display. And if you're going to lower the resolution of the mac for better performance, what's the point of getting a retina display? Plus the memory and batter are soddered in.
I definitely have buyers regret. I could have easily spent 1500 on a laptop with comparable specs, and had a better desktop with the saved money.
Iris or Nvidia?
Feedback in the listing in >>45712424 ?
How well does it work?
Is it buggy?
Does it work with Aqua apps?
Are you using OSXMonad, Xquartz?
Does it work with Safari, iTunes, Finder, etc?
Would a different window manager (herbstluftwm) work as well?
