What's sitting in your closet or basement?
What are you running?
Personally, I'm having issues with Transmission. It doesn't want to move completed torrents. Is it a problem with SickRAGE?
Oh, and I can't find a good UPnP software. Any recommendations? Tried MediaTomb, but it just made a mess of it.
Nobody? Really? Not ven to show off what you bought with your neetbux?
Color me surprised /g/. This is the first time I haven't seen you guys jump at the opportunity to wave your e-peens about.
I have a poweredge R610 but I plan on selling it and get something more flexible to use as a NAS since the 6x 2.5" drive slots are cancer in terms of storage. Not really sure what to buy though. Do I really need ecc memory for freenas?
I've got a PowerMac G5 running OS X Server 10.5.8
>dual 2GHz IBM G5s
>2 port GbE NIC (PCI-X)
>SCSI U320 card (PCI-X)
>FireWire 400 card (PCI)
>PS2 game streaming server
>PowerPC OpenBSD package mirror
Xeon X3210 2.4Ghz
4GB DDR2 ECC
2 x 2TB HDD (Toshiba)
RADIUS AAA (SQL-based), DLNA, webhost, seedbox, mail server, and H@H.
Try using PS3 Media Server. It's the only thing that streams DLNA properly to my Samsung TV.
Wont need any encryption. I plan on torrenting+storing movies and then distribute them via plex.
Will ZFS be necessary at all?
Im also a bit worried that it won't handle the transcoding in plex.
I can't speak to transcoding, but if you're not encrypting that frees up a lot of power and data bandwidth for the transcoding.
ZFS is nice if you have lots of ram, because it can prefetch and cache in the ram, and snapshots are nice for easy backups.
with 16gb of ram, I'd go zfs for sure, otherwise you would be wasting much of that ram.
