So samsung has officially signed their death certificate.
>no removable back or battery
>complete and utter clone of iphone 6 but with a rectangle button
In light of this news, I'll be getting myself a note 4. Officially the last decent samsung phone.
So how about a thread where we greentext what samsung could have done to take over the market with the s6 instead of this complete blunder?
>same screen and specs as current s6
>note4/galaxy alpha style body
>3300mah battery *removable*
>has same stylus as the note4 with support
Anyone else have any ideas?
>complete and utter clone of iphone 6 but with a rectangle button
this sounds like a meaningless opinion to me
>no removable back or battery
this is annoying, but not enough for me to change my purchases
FUCKING DROPPED FOR ETERNITY
why would they stop doing expandable storage on their flagship phones? that is absolutely retarded.
>why would they stop doing expandable storage on their flagship phones? that is absolutely retarded.
because you don't need to carry all your anime and flac music with you everywhere, you autistic faggot
Samsung boomed with the s3 but people have been reluctant in upgrading
Thats why Samsung has been plummeting
I miss this thing so much but it's kill. It makes me sad that every company seems to be designing their phone as close to iphone as possible without being sued :|
I also plan to buy a 4k OLED 21:9 Freesync HDR curved monitor when they are available for any price under $4,500. And my next build is going to be a 4790k with 16GB of RAM and two 390x. Stay poor.
Anyway I don't want it just because lel shiny I want it because there are many instances when surfing the internet when I have to zoom in to read a image especially bad on 4 Chan when people screen cap threads. And I would rather avoid that.
you can still have one now, my QWERTY has a 2ghz dual core snapdragon CPU with android 4.4.4/5.0.x roms perfectly stable.
Honestly, what did you people think would happen? Sales continue to drop and they keep all the features that a small portion of the population wants while the masses flock for a shitty locked down iphone. They're going to imitate and try and grab some of those sales. They don't give a fuck about loyal customers, they just want your damn money.
I'll be keeping my Gs5 until it breaks or until I can find a decent phone with dual micro SDs since its the most used feature on my phone and the fucking hardest to get to.
The number one feature I look for in a phone is a removable battery.
Second is sd card but they usually go hand in hand.
I like the ability to replace an aging battery or to force it off. How can you reboot if it's stuck otherwise? Unless there's something I don't know about.
Why does a change to an aluminium back plate mean you can't into cards and batteries? Or is it an excuse. I really don't fucking care I want flexibility over muh feels. Most people put cases on anyway.
>no removable back or battery
>this is annoying
It's more than just annoying when your phone freezes and can't be shut off with the hard switch. Had it happen to all my smartphones, including iPhones. Only difference is that with the android phones I could just pop the battery out and back in and be good to go, but with the iPhone you just have to wait for the battery to die.
I guess I should have updated before I posted my comment.
Just when they were getting rid of bloat too.
I'm going to wait until the 64 bit gets taken advantage of and they ship with 4+ gigs of ram.
The edge looks cool but it's probably more rice than anything. But hey, showing off is fun right?
This should be the s5 seeing how the s5 now was really s4 ver2
I'm excited in one way, bummed in another.
This thing got dual front facing speakers at least, right? Right?!
literally every device without battery that has fucked me, i just held the power button down for like 30 seconds and it just hard resets it. idk wtf your talking about, even iphones do it. not that im condoning what samsung is doing, i was waiting for the s6 but looks like im getting a note 4 for micro sd support. fuck you samsung. fuck you
Not that anon but I think I had the same problem one time with a family phone. I just held the power button for ages it seemed like and it didn't do shit.
Plus it's nice to remove all power from the system sometimes.
The biggest advantage is battery replacement. They go bad. While here in the U.S.most of us upgrade every 2 years others don't have subsidized phones. They hold on to them double that. By the end you're chained to a wall or external battery pack.
Samsung has basically be ugly plastic trash since the S3. Now they're just copying the iPhone 6 until they get sued again, then back to trash. Now Sony is leaving, not sure you the beat manufacturer is, LG or HTC?
>Samsung has basically be ugly plastic trash since the S3.
I'll take it if it means I get functionality back. Plus they're not as ugly as you say they are.
Biggest gripe with my s4 is it's slippery and falls out of my hands easily sometimes. I liked the feel of my sister's s5
And is this octocore necessary? Or is it that switch from low to high power quad core setup Europe had?
Seems silly to have two quad cores but only one works at a time. Wouldn't that money be spent better elsewhere and does it really save power?
The screens seem to be the energy whores.
>not sure you the beat manufacturer is, LG or HTC?
not shilling for Samsung here, but honestly both are shit
LG - man, they're worse than samsung; a horrible UI worse than touchjizz and also shittily optimized. Also LG devices are very prone to overheating and throttling due to their shitty internal design
HTC: if you look at teardowns, they just fucking glue shit together. How is that good build quality?
Since we're all bitching about how phones suck what would be your ideal phone?
List features and specs
1080p display (or fuck it go full 4k)
whatevers the latest cpu and gpu
4 gigs of ram
atleast 32gigs of internal
micro sd card slot
removable battery not necessary but preferred
latest stock android version
After about two years batteries have about 50% of their original capacity.
Also, what do you have currently open/toggled on in your phone. IE. Wifi, 3G/4G, GPS, Bluetooth, brightness levels.
In regards to the camera, when does enough become enough. I already get outstanding pics. I feel that the only real way to improve is to actually buy a real camera. I could be wrong, however.
It's nice to be able to have so much room you don't have to give a shit and to be able to bring movies and music with you on long flights, vacations, shitty thanksgiving dinner with the in laws etc.
so you consider this good internal design?
There's a reason why HTC is only memed online and flops IRL
People without sd cards: how do you format your drive? It is not something I do often but I had to do it several times and I could just put the rom.zip on the SD card without any trouble.
Do you use the debugger or something?
>signed their death certificate
No. They ensured their survival. Copying the shit out of apple and living off the difference of the money earned by copying apple and money they were forced to give back to apple was all they were ever good at.
That and exploiting the shit out of worst Korea.
>3GB of ram
Do we really need these in consumer phones.
meh still better than what LG does I guess. LG also has down fucking terrible screen calibration, and also artificial sharpening on the G3. The HTC one phones are at least somewhat accurate, maybe a little saturated.
i keep all my photos music and backups in my sd, the main reason i need sd support is because im not gay and i flash custom roms on my phones like a smart person. now when i have to backup all my phone contents to my pc, delete my phones interna storage, flash a brand spankin new rom, then spend 4 hours putting the 20gbs of music and photos and videos back on my phone. then woops, something went wrong 3 days later, bootloop, lost all my videos, photos, and music iv been collecting since i was 13. o well
The note for now. I rarely make calls and when I do they're short. If I know it will be long I use Bluetooth headset. How big is too big though? Will it be hard to hold this up to my ear for 5 minutes and fit in (not skinny) jeans pockets?
Anyone have a phablet?
Oh, what about a galaxy watch?
ya, cause i want all that shit and clutter from the stock and past roms iv used. so many folders for so much shit, idk whats what. i like to do a factory new, full wipe. Internal storage clean. and wha about swapping phones? dont you think its easier to just plop out your micro sd, and pop er in and bam all your photos, music, shit, backups, roms, porn, cp, etc is on your new phone in a matter of 5 seconds.
I'm thinking of being patient and seeing what comes out throughout the year. I'm looking to buy a phone that I can keep for the next 3 years or so and not have to buy a phone all the time.
Speaking of hot: charging my s4 really cooks it.
The best was I needed to navigate so to keep battery from going kill I was charging it. I also had to have the brightness up. Add to that using up the cpu and it had to "cool down" wtf. Fix thermal shit before you give me > 9001 fucking cores.
What do you guys use to monitor battery
Cpu usage and what is wasting it
And maybe an alarm when cpu is being over used.
I'd rather know before my fingers burn.
Sad but true. Who will save us now?
If I had the shekels, yes.
That and the watch. I think they would pair nicely together. One glance.
Anyone know if the watches have replaceable batteries?
>the gripping is excellent on the s5
I feel pleb for not waiting a bit longer to get one.
This and a few other features make it a great phone. I'm stuck with my s4, while good it should have been the 5
>looks pretty bland
I don't know much about new smartphones, but what exactly is the meaning of this argument?
I mean, do you plan on admiring your phone's aesthetics all day?
No, you will have it in your pocket and pull it out when you need to, and the only thing that matters then is screen quality, not the way it looks otherwise.
Besides, most people end up just using a case, which makes the entire idea of phone looks moot anyways, because you can make it look any way you want.
If I were to buy a new phone, I'd be looking for price and features above all else, and looks would be last.
Liquid cooling when?
They can put little heat pipes to evenly disperse it right?
Phones are small enough. Do we really need them smaller, do you guys want them slimmer?
I'm about to build a custom back.
Isnt funny how Apple will sue over this phone and win because every jury will be like "Apple? Everyone uses an apple. It's american company." and then "Samsung? Didn't we fight them in the war?"
>You're giving up a bit in terms of functionality and you're getting a bit more of a premium feel
Fuck form over function
They know most people will use a case BUT sexy and sleek is part of what sells them.
It's sheeple logic
Does it have to bring something new to the table?
It's got a very very good design which really doesn't need much changing at the moment to be >>>/fa/
already been done
Then why are phones released every single year multiple times a year? I mean of course the answer is business/money. But why should I spend my hard earned cash when I don't need to? If it brings nothing good or worthy, why should I bother?
If you want the latest and greatest you spend money. Most notable phone manufacturers only release in either Q1 and/or Q3 of every year giving them ample time to decide what they want to do with the next gen of phones depending on the complains of the prior generation.
I'm super cereal. I'm not saying water. I'm sure it's feasible. Integrate it into the backing with a contact point or two to the hottest parts of the phone. The charger and the 9001 cpu cores.
Why wouldn't it work.
Or maybe graphene? Hmmm
So much this. At least make a version of the model for us.
I'm personally thinking of waiting it out for the Note 5 or the Nexus 7 phone. Not sure yet. We'll see what comes out this year. It definitely has to have either large storage built in, or SD capabilities.
Until it feels like a pulsating, cumming bbc they won't be happy.
I'm still baffled to this superfluous glass backing. Who in their right mind thought this was smart?
You're using that terminology wrong. The plastic may be flimsy, but it's definitely tough. I've bent the fuck out of my plastic back and scratched it and it's still in great condition and it still worked on my phone perfectly.
You can never have enough.
Gib Terabyte support pls
One day we can actually have our computer in our pocket and just pop it into a dock with a bigger screen and connections like Motorola did.
I'm using my Nexus 4 and while its stepping into its third year, the battery drain pretty fast now...using custom rom with tweaks to hope extend it battery life before getting a new phone that I like (none right now)
I'm a constant fiddler with settings. Like excessive. Do you do the same to save battery?
Anyone know how to measure component drain. Like what does my nfc or Bluetooth radio consume?
I'm looking for detailed apps that monitor ALL aspects of my phone and I'm.willing to pay.
I have bluetooth and nfc off all the time if I'm not using it. Although when I do use bluetooth which is quite frequently it doesn't lower it too much and I use it with GPS when I go for walks .
Fucking tabs on the S2's back would snap off when they become brittle with age, the fucking screen turns yellow and the red levels go through the roof.
Fucking POS, the battery puffs up and bulges in 4 months to half an year and they only have a warranty for 3 months.
I'll look into it thanks.
GPS likes to suck battery cock.
I have it turn on via nfc when it goes in my car dock though. When I get home I hit the home tag to disable that and other settings.
Problem is my back is too fucked to drive and I can't play with my toys :/
And why is cpuz a shit as a phone app?
It never saves my settings and freezes if I come back to it after going to another app.
i keep the brightness as low as possible and either the wifi or data is constantly on, but never both. I might try to turn on airplane mode to see if there is improvments.
Yup, but since I'm a normal fag who barely knows how to flash custom roms and kernels, I can't do much tweaking
Im thinking if there is a way to stop certain app to not use any data for a certain period of time.
Some chink scam on jewtube has "cooling film" that goes on the battery.
The amount of lulz in that scam are ridiculous. I had to call that faggot out.
I'm afraid of fucking up my phone with a rom and never being able to use it again.
How do I get some of the s5 features on my s4?
One is I like their flashlight widget.
The app switching is so much faster than holding down my home button too.
Or is that touchwiz boatware?
lol I'm not that afraid though, because the worst thing flashing can do is make it software brick which might spend me an hour to refind the solution to restore it, but it is easy
5 inch 1080p IPS
8 megapixel camera with a bigger sensor
2,600 mA battery
32/64 gigs of memory, I dont need that much
Cirrus audio chip from iphone 4/4s
I feel so pleb.
I have an old droid x, might as well practice on that, right?
Any good resources I should check out?
Why is it I always stumble upon features? I never see documentation and it's annoying. I paid a lot of shekels and I want to use my shit to the fullest.
And if anyone knows a way to reorganize mobile chrome tabs that would be great.
Get the back panel off a S4 Black Edition, knockoffs are dirt cheap on ebay and they feel so damned good.
