why are you still using Windows and not OS X? windows is trash, we all know it, just buy a Mac its not that hard and it will pay itself off in no time
-Terrible OpenGL performance due to Apple hampering.
-Still OpenGL 3.x due to Apple hampering
-Terrible multimonitor support
The audio is nice though, still no other OS which can do the things OSX can
>Aggregate audio devices are the fucking best thing ever.
Wouldn't hurt to have a real Virtualization platform with IOMMU and PCI-e passthrough support.
Ctrl+Click and/or a PC mouse are all that's required. Finger gestures on the touchpad eliminate the need.
>installing apps not in the appstore
You can enable 3rd party installs from the security menu in system settings.
>why should I use OS X?
Too many reasons to list. Most of it is subjective anyway.
>Justify it and i'll pull the trigger on a MBA right now
The MacBook Air line is rumored to be refreshed very soon.
I would suggest you wait and see what the refresh brings.
If nothing else, you will probably be able to buy the current model for less.
>Enjoying your lack of right click or ability to install programs not in the app store?
two finger tap to right click
Clearly you are a pleb who has never even used OS T
>Enjoying your lack of right click
It's like it's really 1988 again.
>ability to install programs not in the app store?
This is already enabled by default. Only apps missing a "signature" aren't automatically accepted by default.
But all you have to do is right-click, open instead. Or flip a switch in Preferences to enable it permanently.
Epic shitpost indeed, faggot.
Macbooks have had right click since 2008.
Not just two-finger-tap either...
>Bottom 1/3rd of the trackpad actually clicks in, clicking on left will be a left click, right for right.
>At least on my 2008 macbook, it's set for right-click to be enabled by default, but NOT two-finger-tap.
It's been a while since I've tried it, I moved on after it got shittier with SL and my new PC (then) used just a few watts at idle as the Macbook.
>2008 Unibody Macbook was my main machine for around 4 years, 13 watts DC input at idle, far better than the 109 watts my desktop was pulling in 2008.
Macericks is nice though, I'm yet to update the machine to YoSemite.
I use mostly Linux, and keep around a Windows partition for vidya . I see nothing wrong with OSX, it's just not my cup of tea for whatever reason. I've tried it, and it didn't seem to offer any benefit I could personally take advantage of, since I'm already so used to Linux and Windows that ease of use doesn't matter. Whatever floats your boat, though.
>HURR DURR OMG LINUX? LOOSER VIRGIN NECKBEAR AHAHAHAHAHA I BET YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS AND SPEND ALL DAY FIXING BROKEN SHIT
Keep thinking that OS choice defines a person in real life. Or that Linux "constantly breaks".
>HURR DURR VIDYA? GROW UP YOU FUCKING MANCHILD
It's a fucking hobby. Who the fuck cares. Everyone I've ever met sure as fuck doesn't. The kind of people who make a big deal out of people playing vidya in their spare time, are the same people that obsessively try to fit in so hard to the point where all it does is give off an aura of utter insecurity.
OK guys is there a way I can clone my OS X install from my iMac to an AMD computer? should I do a fresh install then load from a time machine backup or is that going to cause problems? Can I even hackintosh an AMD (with R9 290)?
Gr8 b8 m8 i r8 8/8 no h8 pls dont hesit8 to masturb8
They are all better and some things over others:-
Windows = Games and AD
Nix* = King of servers, switches, firewalls, routers etc
Osx = Macbooks, surfing porn and ssh / familiar unix commands
Who even cares what an OS does, its runs apps, they all do it....dicks!
>Trusting college students to make fiscally responsible decisions
Nearly all of them.
Only difference between an Acer and Macbook rolling off the same line is the recycled milk cartons vs recycled beer cans for the casing, and a $700 retard tax for the glowing logo.
Really? It's a rather common practice; Foxconn is huge and manufactures much more than Apple devices. iirc The PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii were all manufactured at Foxconn (at least some units, there are other plants as well)
oh right, I forgot about HP, acer and asus dont really count because they essentially own their fab plants, they just split them out so they could run their fabrication in china while keeping the actual company in Taiwan
china does not allow Taiwanese companies to fabricate in china.. because the chinese government is fucking bananas
>macbook is defective shit
>the user must have dropped it
Why can't I go to an external display without forcing dedicated GPU?
Why can't I go clamshell mode without plugging it in?
Why does simply moving the mouse wake it from sleep, but if the system is awake but the display is in power mode, I have to physically click the button to wake the display up?
Why can't the finder sort files by folders on top? And on that topic, why is the finder still inferior to windows explorer?
I just got an MBA because I literally couldn't find anything else. Chromebooks look nice, but the ultraportable ones aren't available on my country yet, and Sony Vaio is kill so I couldn't find their ultrabooks either. There are some pretty light and thin Acer laptops, but reading reviews everyone complained about the touchpad and wifi, so I had to get an MBA, it was the only laptop that would last 10 hours and wouldn't break my back when I had it in my backpack.
Yeah, it's expensive, that's for sure, but it's easily the best quality laptop I've used, so I think it's worth it.
OSX is ok, looks less powerful than windows or linux, but performs better so I'm fine with it.
The only apple product reviews are positive reviews because if you don't sign a contract promising a positive review, you don't get a review sample.
If you don't get a review sample, you miss out on pre-release reviews and your entire business model is fucked because people will go somewhere else and no longer need to read your site.
Good job getting scammed.
Everyone should be comfortable on any OS/multiple OS provided they aren't retarded.
OS exist to run apps, and all OS are free (as in, I don't have to pay for them) so I run whatever runs the apps I want. I don't pay for those either. I can afford them but I don't give a fuck about the rich.
OS wars are kiddie shit. If I want an OS X app (I can't think of any I need at all) I'll torrent and Hackintosh a desktop to run it and other OS. (Laptops are for Facebook, not real work, because lappy ergonomics suck and their displays are tiny no matter how good they may be.)
i have a macbook, but people like you: pic related
>tfw I love going to Starbucks with my shitty bulky old Acer and actually be productive on it
Coffee shops are actually very nice places to work. I tend to focus on the actual work a lot more there than I do at home.
Pretty much this. I use Windows because it is the most useful OS for my needs, but if all I have access to is my gf's MacBook I'm very able to work on that. I have everything I need saved on OneDrive so I can work anywhere. If you get the hang of it, OSX is just as easy to use as Windows 8.1.
/g/ always makes seem like the OS they're not defending is impossible to use.
What I meant was use as intuitively as I use Windows. I don't know all OSX shortkeys by heart for example, while I do know pretty much all of them on Windows.
>using the maxi pads of the consumer electronics world
>calling other people faggots
People use Apple products in public without feeling ashamed the same way dogs shit in public without feeling ashamed.
You're just jealous that Mac users appreciate art, design, and beauty, whereas your just a greasy chinaman with no imagination counting beads on an abacus who can only look on with envious eyes at others who are more creative than you are.
