Cyberpunk books/movies recommendations for someone who's new to the genre?
I ultimately want to make a cyberpunk-themed kind of VN, but I don't know much about cyberpunk culture.
Performance wise would Mountain Lion be slower than Snow Leopard on a 2008 MBP? It has been upgraded to 4GB. Not mine btw but I'm helping a friend. I have no knowledge of Apple stuff really.
I've got two EVGA Gtx 670 FTW in an SLI configuration and both with Arctic Accelero Mono Plus coolers on them. The first two weeks they were running cooler than the stock coolers but now the main card is reaching temps of 85° and the secondary is about 10° cooler. The coolers are big so do you guys think it would be an issue of not enough space between the cards to allow adequate cooling?
How hard is it to add support for a new version of Dx to a game? What's usually involved? (Feel free to simplify)
e.g. a game is developed in dx9 or 10 and Dx12 is coming, what would it take for the devs to add support for it?
Devs first have to read and understand everything about dx12. Everything that was improved
Then recode huge chunks of the code to be able to use those improvements.
About 25% or more of the work they did coding it in the first place.
>Some kind of text-mode browser in a VM?
it still goes to your computer's IP address since the VM is running on your computer. i would suggest you don't participate in illegal activities, anon :^)
What are my options for re-installing Windows 7 without having access to the recovery discs? I tried downloading the ISOs from Microsoft but they said my product key isn't supported because "The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device." I'm using the key for a copy of Windows that came installed on my father's laptop.
Guild Wars 2, specifically. They released it in 2012 with Dx9 which was pretty bad buht it's an MMO so I can see why they'd want it to be compatible with older systems. It's getting an expac soon so people are talking about getting Dx11 or 12.
On second thought, how hard is it to allow for multiple Dx versions if you build from the ground up with that i. Mi d? Do you have to essentially do the code once for each version of Dx or is it easier?
I tried looking a lot of this up but I couldn't find anything.
Cyberpunk is kind of vague actually. Anything involving future weapons and/or androids gets thrown together as cyberpunk. Might want to describe more of what you are looking for. Regardless, there are the obvious ones like Blade Runner, Matrix, and Terminator/Total Recall for films.
I haven't read enough cyberpunk books to advice anymore than just googling a list. I'd assume that would work out fine though. In cult-following genres, usually the biggest hits are also the best.
I'd also advice checking out anime/manga like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Ergo Proxy.
Only slightly more than a non-vertical screen. They are just normal screens that allow you to tilt them to 90 degrees.
Could be the thermal paste. Might just be bad airflow through the case. Maybe need new case fans.
My question isn't very /g/ related. I've been going on and off to community college for the past 4/5 years to get an associate's degree. Rest of the time has been self-studying and just general NEET stuff. Never had a job or completed any actual projects or anything.
I've got a good gpa and good act scores, but don't have jack shit to write on the application essays to transfer. Do I make shit up, describe some of the stuff I've been doing on my own time, or just keep the essay incredibly short?
How much one would cost?
I'm not looking for a fancy screen, just enough to read porn vertically because sometimes i cant read what im fapping to because my actual screen is too small (18.5" 1366x768 HP all in one screen) and when i tried to rotate it manually to fap, i managed to damage the HDD from a 6cm fall.
Since it is an MMO they may want to improve on it.
DX12 is windows 10 exclusive so I doubt it will be a priority for them.
It is easier to code from scratch allowing multiple dx versions.
>came installed on my father's laptop
Are you trying to use his key for a different computer? That's not going to work.
What size? Glossy or matte? Resolution? Glossy or Matte?
Is it not mp3/flac/ogg/etc files? What are you trying to download man?
Unless they actually said differently, I highly doubt they will move up.
Depends on the size/resolution/etc. You can get a shitty one for cheap, especially if you don't mind used/refurbished, just look around.
So I think I might be getting a new phone tomorrow.
I want something with an sd card slot(not necessarily a deal breaker if it doesn't have one), runs stock android (preferably something recent. I'm running Jellybean right now), and isn't super huge (current screen is 4.65", so around there)
What do I get /g/?
>What size? Glossy or matte? Resolution? Glossy or Matte?
Whatever will look good at 1080p, matte (unless there's a difference in image quality between the two), 1920x1080 or 1200
Okay. All I can say is the pre-installed version 'should' be tied to the motherboard.
It is an MMO, but I don't think it's a monthly subscription? At least it didn't used to be.
You don't really have any limiting factors there. Do you (plan to) do anything in particular with your phone?
Most people say around 23' for 1080p. Glossy should have better colors (particularly blacks should be blacker), and there's also the question of if you want ips or not. You won't have any trouble at all finding one in your price range.
>>You don't really have any limiting factors there. Do you (plan to) do anything in particular with your phone?
General use really. I just have an old phone and I'm getting onto my own plan now, so I'm going to get something
>Most people say around 23' for 1080p. Glossy should have better colors (particularly blacks should be blacker), and there's also the question of if you want ips or not. You won't have any trouble at all finding one in your price range.
Alright. What brands should I be loioking at, then?
How do i fix this shit?
bdf icons are supposed to be there.
It is hopefully audio files, yes. I'm less concerned about the files (if they do in fact exist, I can easily scan them) than I am about the website. I haven't visited it yet, but if it's full of ads and fake links, and I happen to click the wrong one or worse, I'd like to be prepared.
I almost missed this post, sorry. I'll give that a shot, thank you.
yes it would, but with 4 gigs of RAM, not noticeably. The only reason would be that Lion (and so Mountain Lion) was made with faster processors in mind. Having said that it isn't really an issue.
What I would mentions is some pros would be support for iCloud and such, 90 days of software support (they will not help you revert its a one way street in apples eyes), and some cons are you will lose support for Rosetta, so if he has anything that is Power-PC only, he might as well throw it in the trash.
TLDR; ittle run fine but not as fast as a machine with Mountain Lion pre-installed if you bought it today (duh) and he wont be able to use Rosetta to run Power-PC programs if he upgrades
Aside from the return/dead-pixel policies, I wouldn't worry about the brand. Just make sure there aren't any specs that they aren't gimping on. You can go as cheap as something like this:
I wouldn't, just because I personally like isp and glossy. Some people want adjustable stands and stuff too.
Or maybe you think it really matters and want the lowest response time you can get something like:
I'd just look through this and see if there is anything you like in particular:
So, I have some weird ass fucking AOC "Nspire" N22, a monitor I can find almost nothing about besides on a site called 'fixya'. I bought it from a thrift shop, and I'm having a weird problem: The contrast is stuck at 255 and won't let me change anything. I tried getting a program called "Soft MCCS" to try to reset it back to factory settings, but I'm still left with a blinding contrast and I can't find a resource for support or even a user manual online. wat do?
Just fiddle with the quality until you start to notice.
avconv -i input.flac -acodec libvorbis -aq [up to 100] output.ogg
I think the max bitrate is 500 or something, you probably won't need that much. Though even at max, the file size will be much smaller.
Why are you doing this, anyway, anon?
So I have an excel spreadsheet that I need to print 45 times.
I have another text document that has a list of 45 names.
I really need to print this same excel spreadsheet with each having 1 cell being one line of the text document.
How would I accomplish this?
Can I use a GoPro as a webcam? It runs Linux/Busybox, has wifi, and I can get a shell on it. I'm not sure what kind of access Linux has to the camera, though. Linux is actually running on an RTOS, and I think the RTOS operates the camera. Linux is basically just there to provide a wireless network and a web interface for the phone app to connect to. I would be interested in using it as a webcam for my desktop, which also runs Linux, if I could.
So I built a computer with an SSD, and all I wanted was my OS on there.
Now I'm installing things like Dropbox, and theyse things just fucking install themselves in Appdata. So much shit is getting in there now that I have 20.3GB left out of 120GB. Can I make these things store there shit somewhere else without running in to billions of problems?
Also can someone tell me what's going on in the picture? I highlighted all the files/folders from C:/ and it says only 28 GB is being used, but clearly that's not true...
Also I'm going to dual boot my laptop, and I can't decide which OS to use for my Windows side. What are the reasons why I should get Windows 7, 8, or 10? How are you finding Windows 10?
i've been using newsgroups for the last 4 years and i'm starting think i might just make the switch to torrents. the most important thing to me has always been television shows since i cut the cord a while back. i like that i can saturate my 250Mbit connection without having to wait for seeds and also i've never had any issues with trackers or getting letters from my isp.
is it really safer to stick with newsgroups?
When writing user scripts, how do I avoid clashing with existing functions? Like, if I map a function to an existing button it will execute both the original function and mine, right? So I guess I have to, uhm, un-bind the originals?
I like transmission, although it doesn't seem to be working for me right now, so I've switched to Deluge. Transmission, Deluge, and qbittorrent are the ones that are most commonly recommended here.
>deluge still can't preload magnet links
My eight year old Logitech G9 looks a little long in the tooth and the left button is beginning to stick too.
Any good ideas on a replacement? It has served me well but I think it's time to let go.
>inb4 buy another
I don't want to pay asinine scalper prices for one NIB.
I saw a pair of JBL n24ii speakers at goodwill the other day. They were five bucks each.
Should I have bought them?
I will be in the area of that goodwill Friday, but can go earlier. If they are still there, should I pick them up?
Whats a good Wearable mic for recording videos.
I'm not even sure if they have really long wires that attach to the camera or are wireless.
Second question, does the volume of my phone drain its battery life higher as the volume goes higher?(If I'm playing audio through the speaker the whole time.) What if I'm wearing headphones?
How much space does Windows take up? I was only going to use the SSD for that and the one game I care about load times in, so i wasn't sure if 128GB would be enough. But i know games seem to be starting to list 16GB RAM on their requirements now.
can I set up Windows to block all connections save a few things, like AV and Windows updates, and maybe the browser?
Yeah just install them on a different drive. No idea what's going on in the picture. You have to know where the missing ~80gb is, right? Don't know shit about windows 10, but 8 is slightly better than 7 in performance, at the drawback of sometimes having to deal with their tablet style menu.
Don't be worried about getting letters. You can 'start' to worry once you get more than one letter.
Yup. Un-bind the original.
Not in particular.
If you have a use for them, sure why not.
If you have a large storage drive, upgrade the RAM. If not, upgrade the SSD. Or just save your $60. You probably don't need either, and you can upgrade the RAM at any time assuming you have open slots.
128GB should definitely be enough. I haven't seen any games list 16gb ram as a requirement.
Double check you have everything. Get any software settings/etc you need. I forgot to grab my bookmarks from my browser on my last format.
Uh, sure. No idea why someone would do that though.
Haven't they massively downgraded it? I couldn't find the specs on steam, but if pcgamer is to be believed, it's only 8GB.
You could also just save the money. Get one stick now, one later if you happen to need it.
Can DisplayPort 1.2 be flashed to 1.2a? I'm wondering whether the GTX 780 will ever be able to use Adaptive Sync. And what are the chances that 1.2a could be unlocked by an unofficial firmware long before NVIDIA allows it?
Is there any difference between 1600 and 1866 ddr3 RAM?
The price difference is like two dollars, but I don't really like the color...
I was talking with someone at work over some software stuff and it got me wondering. What information could an installer pull about a client PC?
Say I wanted an installer to decide what software was offered to a user based on a locale or keyboard language or something like that. I was assuming this was how websites like cnet offer shit, among business deals and other stuff.
K, so, I wanna learn code with Python on Code Academy or whatever. Fine, but they do this
Have your variable = Total, and Meal + Meal * Tax
The total of the meal is 44.50, so 44.50 + 44.450 = 89, multiply that by the tax which is 0.15 = 13.35 according to the calculator on my PC. However, my calculator is stupid I guess because they're like "THAT'S FUCKING WRONG SHITHEAD, IT'S 54 SOMETHING" What the fuck?! How the hell does it equal 54?!
Because nothing else would be allowed to update? Just manually block the things you don't want.
>dual channel better
Nope. Differences in ram setups are fairly insignificant as long as you don't reach your max.
Huh? Unless there is something I don't know, I'd say 0 chance.
I want to make a website in Python.
Should I use a framework like Django from the start or just start with a clean .py file and code things as I need them? I've tried following the latest Django tutorial in the Django documentations but I didn't really learn anything.
Do xposed Modules bloat up a phone much? Just asking because I have about 9 different modules, but I feel like 3 of them could just be made into 1. The device isn't lagging but I wonder if the more you have the worse it works out.
>Yeah just install them on a different drive.
There's no option, it just installs itself as soon as you open the launcher into appdata.
>You have to know where the missing ~80gb is, right?
No, I don't. All the 'My X' folders are in another drive and I store literally nothing else on it, except for a few programs which are included in the 28GB count in the picture.
Nope. If it's not (much) more expensive, I'd go with the single 8gb than the dual 4gb, for potential future proofing.
>Nothing else need to update
Okay, but it doesn't need to be blocked either, right? Seems silly.
My motherboard has 4 ram slots, couldn't I just go with 4x4gb if I ever need 16gb of ram? I hear double sticks are better than single ones, and I don't think I need 16gb for a while
Can I overclock with this case if I get some aftermarket coolers?
Sure you can. But a single stick 8gb allows for potential of 32gb!
>I hear double stick are better than single ones
Nah, at least not in any way you will ever notice. There is absolutely no difference in games and daily tasks. Maybe if you do large amounts of video editing or something, you might see a 3% difference or something.
Networking illiterate here. My internet just tanked on me. Posting using my 4g phone.
What are the basic steps to figuring out whats wrong? I already tried powering down my router/modem (its an all in one from cumcast) and that didnt do the trick.
Since thats the only thing I know how to do when it comes to troubleshooting an Internet connection, im pretty lost as to what to do next
You are a paying comcast customer, correct? Just call comcast. They'll try resetting shit, if it doesn't work they will ask if you want someone sent out. Next time, don't get one of the router/modem combo thing.
Whatever you enjoy if you are smart and capable.
You don't need a proxy.
There are actual differences between capture cards. It's not like an hdmi cable where it either works or doesn't.
Also, would it work if I put the Win7 .iso onto a USB drive, made it bootable and ran it from there, or is there a specific file type I should be looking for here?
I am absolutely full of stupid questions.
From my understanding the cheap ones have decently large input lag. So you will either need a splitter to play on a separate monitor/tv, deal with input lag, or buy a more expensive one. I can't comment on any specific ones for xbox.
I picked up a 5tb hdd today for $100, but I'm having trouble formatting it. I can't seem to format/use anything beyond the first 2048GB.
has anyone here found a way to get around this?
Google will be your best bet. You need a program. It will format the flash drive, put the .iso on it, and make a bootable partition or whatever. Then you simply restart the computer, and tell it to boot from the usb in the bios. Should work identical as a disk from that point. I'm sure people on /g/ have done this countless times, so someone else could be of more help if you run into an issue or something.
No idea. I just emulate the ps2 games and/or buy pc ports instead.
There is a 2tb limit. I think you need a supporting mobo, a 64 bit operating system, and to choose the correct format for it to go above 2tb. Or something like that.
Definitely delete some shit. Things can get funky when you run out of space. If you are that limited on space it's time for another hard drive anyway.
>Because partition tables on master boot record (MBR) disks only support partition sizes up to 2 TB, dynamic or GPT volumes must be used to create NTFS volumes over 2 TB. Booting from a GPT volume to a Windows environment requires a system with UEFI and 64-bit support.
Odin must be smiling upon be as I've been offered two jobs this week. Both internal from business units I do project work with (as a Business Rep/SME). I don't know which to take:
Job One: Networking (Telephony) Engineer. $80K. Interstate move.
Job Two: Legacy System Manager (very old, very important proprietary developed internal system used by 400 users). Said they'd match job one, no need to move.
What do? My gut says go with 2.
That's what ive done for my 4790k based on a basic guide i found online
increased multiplier to 4.6 at 1.25 volts. Ran stress test etc. Stable. Put it at 4.7 @ 1.25 volts. Instant crash.
2 weeks later still stable at 4.6 under load etc. Don 't know if i should reduce it or not. but yeah.
Downloaded a new font, it changed my font settings on my internet browsers automatically for some reason.
I deleted the fonts from Windows, and it's still stuck to it. Downloaded a regedit file to restore default font settings, set font settings back to default in the font menu, changed themes, and made sure that default fonts are correct in Firefox. It even seems to affect IE too, even though I don't use it. What do?
Hey guys, last stupid question
What's my safest bet for downloading a Windows 7 iso? Proxy, torrent, what? Should I run Peerblock while I download, or will that even make a difference?
I just want to avoid getting a letter from my ISP about it
For videos? Why? I always say mpc is best, and use vlc as a backup player. Not sure if either will help you with that though.
I'd say pick which one you think you would like more. If you can't do that...
>Said they'd match job one
They seem to want you. Ask them for more, if they don't, go with the other job. Then you don't have to decide yourself.
I'm not sure if I was actually any help, but cool. Good for you.
You can independently change what Firefox font you want. No need to fuck around with regedit.
I've got over 6tb downloaded/uploaded on my utorrent (I'm using 2.2.1, I know the rest of the world has switched long ago). Never got a letter from isp. Just torrent shit, if you get a letter, then you start worrying about taking precautions in the future.
Depends what you are using it for. Probably not for a vast majority of people.
>For videos? Why? I always say mpc is best, and use vlc as a backup player. Not sure if either will help you with that though.
Some nights I queue stuff up to fall asleep to, but usually with a fair bit of variety. So the ability to just drag and drop video files in and dynamically sort them without having to create a file every time is convenient.
I was compiling overnight on a remote server via ssh and this morning I see a 'terminated by kill signal' message. It may have been automated by the remote or something, I don't know.
Question is: Can I just resume by typing 'make' or do I have to do some additional task before/during/after?
Thanks in advance. Sometimes googling for small questions is a pain and doesn't yield any result.
Anyone know how I can WebM a file and include subs in XMedia Recode? I can add the .mkv file and select the subtitle file, but the subs are all off sync and start from the beginning of the video regardless of which part of the video I WebM
I'm making an android application, and I need to put an arbitrary number of buttons into a grid.
Right now I'm using a GridLayout, and I have no issues adding Button objects.
My problem is, the buttons show up in a line and go off the screen on the right instead of wrapping at the edge of the gridlayout/screen.
The Gridlayout is inside of a relative view, and I'm constructing and adding all of the buttons manually.
I really don't want to have to manually calculate the sizes of the buttons, and manually arrange them in the grid.
Am I missing something really obvious?
I don't do any kind of video editing or streaming, but I do game while listening to music, skyping and web browsing. I'm also worried about how relevant the i5 will stay with games.
What does AMD have in the works for mini itx?
Are the enclosed water cooling solutions (Cosair H series for example) better value than the build you own water cooling parts? Advantages/disadvantages of both?
