Not every company is going that route. Those that continue to hire based on skill (and some minorities actually do have skills) will outperform those who are trying to meet some diversity quota. Those who go along with the quotas will either figure out the shitty hires are worthless and sit them in a corner to stay out of the way and collect a paycheck (which is a drag on company finances) or push to have them included in all projects, which will destroy the company rather than cripple it.
Tech doesn't suffer in the face of diversity. I've met all sorts of really smart and competent people from all different backgrounds. In theory it would be possible to increase diversity in the sector while creating cut-throat recruitment competition for the best and brightest.
The problem here is poor business management, because that theory is not what will happen. Instead you'll just get a glut of diversity hires in order to hit quotas. Those people will suck. We all love the underdog story of the poor kid who graduated magna cum laude from MIT, but that's not 99% of what's out there.
But for all of that, I still don't agree. It's a temporary setback. Diversity is this decade's schtick. By 2020 everyone will be off of this nonsense and onto something else. Remember "sustainability" from the 2000s? That "green" shit was in the dumpster by 2010.
Don't be too worried about flavors of the decade. They pass and we get back to business as usual.

Forced diversity will though. Putting people in positions they aren't suited for just to fill some retarded "diversity quota" causes nothing but problems.
If a woman wants to get into tech, I'm all for it. If a black dude wants to be a programmer, hey, more power to you. I think anyone can get into tech, regardless of their gender, race, or background, and I'll support them all the way in their pursuit of their goals.
But if some white dude in management wants to put someone in a position they do not have the experience or qualifications for, just because of their gender or race, in place of someone better for the job, then it's only creating problems. Hell, we already have problems of nepotism and cronyism in the industry, this isn't much better.
