Dude wake up, you were having a bad dream it's only 2001. now come downstairs and check out my new windows machine, it's ME
That Compaq Presario was my first PC. I remember it so well. It was a piece of shit. WinME would break itself. If it wasn't so bad, and I didn't have to fix everything that went wrong myself, I'd have never learned about computers.
Thanks OP, this image means a lot to me.
I have that exact monitor on my desk. I use it sometimes as a 3rd screen. Otherwise pretty average CRT but it is quite lightweight and has that Lightframe feature that makes old low resolution videos look way better.
fuck i remem eer being a fucking little baby tap tappin away on a computer
a fcking conpaq computer and my dad he got so fucking angry at it one time when it broked he called them up and they had him facory reset and it took forgerver he was so mad and i couldn't use it to look up cheat codes for my games (wario land II) so i was mad to and we said "well wer'e never buy a conpag" and we bought a dell next and whoa going from windows 98 to xp was a fucking wonderland
man those were the days
I was only 5 in 2001 so wasn't really into computers but more n64 at that time but I remember my dad played return to castle wolfenstein and finally quite a bit of wolfenstein enemy territory
I remember watching my dad play the MDK demo on our old Windows 95 box around 1996. I also remember when he got us a super fancy high-end GPU and POD Gold looked fucking awesome with shiny wheels and proper shadows.
I wish Dad and I were still close. ;_;
I got that exact same Compaq for my first computer. Well, maybe not exact, since mine has XP. Though I regret not getting the other color faceplates when I could.
I still have it, by the way.
can't wait for this to come out m8, did you see that cinematic trailer in HD?!
>playing rayman 2 on mommys pc
>Intel Pentium III
>playing with luminosity settings on the cathode screen
>meanwhile, dad overclocked his AMD Duron to an impressive 1,15Ghz.
>wake up early on saturday
>go to computer room
>it's fucking freezing there because the heating system doesn't autostart until 9am
>press computer button
>heart beats fast
>blue glow engulfs my head
>mine iron ore in the dwarven mine, avoiding king scorpions
>mfw ME means shit in my country language
I was rocking one of these in 2001
Acer Travelmate 200T
And my trusty Amiga 1200 power tower
Thank fucking god. I dreamt of a world where everyone had computers in their pockets and they were all running an open-source linux-based OS but it didn't matter because nobody was SU.
It was like a twilight zone episode. Or Wall-E.
>you'll never wake up and tell yourself not to make all those bad choices in 2002
>you'll never stop yourself from being retarded and majoring in graphic design
I want to do this, couldn't have been a more relevant pic for what I was thinking.
I would love to know how well that works in that case, I imagine horribly due to dual reactors with 1mm clearance between each other and the bottom of the case.
So are we gonna play Quake 3 or Bid for Power over lan or what bro?
It makes a lot more sense when it comes to vehicles. Making a shitty old car/truck fast and racing/betting against someone with a nice car who thinks its a sure win for ez $$. Just IT fags using the slang to make them sound less of a social invert.
I wouldn't do the dual cards like that guy did. Other than that, it would work fine. Though I'd personally look for a case with a rear mounted fan as well.
The more minimal looking cases. Lian Li makes old style (in looks) cases. If you want, you can go the extra mile and paint them beige.
Well I have one of these lying around at home, but just doesn't look old enough!
>mfw had a chance to invest in buttcoins

I find myself recreating a lot of old interface elements instinctively whenever possible to accommodate my muscle memory. Improves workflow more often than not, and it's not like I'm averse to adjusting either.
Wake up, we're here. Why are you shaking, are you OK? u-Wake up! Stand up, there you go. You were dreaming. uh-Whats you're name?
Well, not even the dot-com bubble could wake you. I've heard they say we've reached 256 kbit/s dial-up speeds, I'm sure it'll catch on.
Quiet, here comes the party van.
I know :(
Pic would be perfect, this old gem
This is where you've been, come with me.
Get yourself in the van and lets try to keep this as civil as possible
For fuck sake man what are you talking about? 2001? 1998? We just started the 90s. Check out this compact computer tower from Apple inc., i just bought
Nothing has changed much in 15 years. We still have big, ugly towers and big ugly keyboards with big ugly mice. Yay progress.
But hey, at least our screens are really really thin! :)
I still have mine.
1GHz Pentium III
Blah, blah, blah.
Not only is the -ception suffix moronic for describing nested concepts, in this case "dreamception" is double moronic because the film "inception" was about dreams anyway.
It was a funny thread until you came along.
>you will never get a second chance
>this will never happen
Hope you didn't come over to play games anon..
AMD-K2 3DNOW! 450mhz
8gb hard drive
I had the exact set up in picture posted.. Except the headphones.
Keyboard / ball mouse was decent.
AMD processors K series ...Blow
Couldn't play half the game my friends slighter older Pentium 2 333mhz machine would.
Tribes, Half Life, CounterStrike, Brood wars, general use.. Everything was better on his lower mhz rigg
Besides that I still love my computer. I will play broodwars all night tonight and lag every 3v3 /4v4 mach after 2min from my computers speed and 56k contention..
Oh god I'm still working at Office Depot selling these shit tier built to order compaq computers with a free ultras shit tier printer. Why am I drinking and partying with vapid sluts that hardly even sleep with me instead of putting every ounce of spare energy into learning web dev to make that bank.
>AMD-K2 3DNOW! 450mhz

Surely you mean the K6-2 series. It was AMD's answer to the Celeron, taking their Pentium II class chip, clocking it up, and removing some cache.
The problem was that it had no on-die L2 cache at all, leaving much of your CPU performance up to the motherboard manufacturer. I had a Compaq Presario with a K6-2 533MHz, which I swapped into a cheapshit Microstar motherboard because the Compaq had no AGP ports and I had recently acquired a Radeon 9000. It ran Deus Ex worse than the Compaq's Voodoo2 because the mobo had no external L2 cache.
It was always more than enough for C&C, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and Alpha Centauri, though.
