Considering this is the fastest port and also provides a shit-ton of power, does that mean we will eventually be able to connect an external video card to it to beef up our laptops' graphical power?
This. The only reason eGPUs work with thunderbolt and expresscard setups is because they're just exposing PCIe lanes in a different way. This is a grossly simplified explanation but it covers the basic reason it works.
You can do it with Thunderbolt ports. Unfortunately Intel is jews and made it proprietary so there's almost nothing that supports it.
>one size fits all
>just do it the apple way. its better
although this current model is a pile of shit, i hope usb type c takes off, imagine getting rid of the shitty power bricks on laptops
also means we should be able to charge them like we do with phones and the smaller wall outlets
Well my router turns any usb drive plugged into it, into a network drive. But I can understand that suddenly wont be possible if you take it out the house.
One port is retarded, there's ample space for 2.
>YFW apple takes over the world
You have not even posted a face you dumbfuck
Apple is a fashion company and sells luis vuitton handbag devices. No one with half a brain jumps on that train.
Do people actually still use those travel mice, or are you just pushing that strawman because you literally have to act retarded to dismiss netbooks now that Apple has gotten into that game?
I can't believe there are people on /g/ who are actually, seriously defending a "full-fledged laptop" with ONE FUCKING PORT. My phone has more connectivity options than this piece of crap, who decided this?
We are on a technology forum, with people who supposedly have some knowledge of that technology. How can anyone think having a single fucking port is a step in the right direction?
>more accurate, precise, and comfortable than a mouse
People said the same thing about optical drives when the MBA first came out. If you're not at least a little more timid after being wrong about shit like that, then you're just flat out retarded.
Apple could release a shiny aluminum brick for $5000 and some people on /g/ would defend it
>who needs a CPU when you have DESIGN
>he still uses boot drives
>why would you need an OS when there's the CLOUD ?
>2015, still using a keyboard
>why would apple bother putting a screen on its devices when it uses so much battery and objectively serves no useful purpose ?
Once again, new macbook is USB c gen 1, so speedwise is USB 3.0
>when I couldn't believe that it could get shittier
You're referring to what people think of optional features. Not the trackpad as a whole. They didn't get rid of the previous feature set.
As someone with a thinkpad and an ASUS ultrabook I'm envious of mac users whenever I use one of their laptops.
>people actually use usb mouses on their laptop
Why? Are you at home? Just use your desktop. Are you traveling? Then just wait until you get home to charge it, you've got like 9-10 hours to use it before it goes into sleep mode if you absolutely need to use a mouse. Although, the whole point of a laptop is to be portable, why would I bother defeating that purpose by insisting on carrying around extra gear and cables to use it?
If you're not moving your fingers more, what's the point of a larger touchpad?
Sure, you could just leave the sensitivity way up, but at that point, what's the reason?
A trackpoint literally requires zero finger movement, just a little pushing. All trackpads suffer from requiring finger movement.
more area to touch, more area for multifingered gestures, etc.
My Magic Trackpad is ~70% larger than a MacBook trackpad and I still have the sensitivity turned up 3x past the max in System Preferences.
i really don't care about the port being there, it actually is supposed to be the superceding of the last USB version. however, why the fuck would they only choose 1 port? they could have easily fit 4 usb-c ports on that fucker, just about anywhere. i mean if the shit is supposed to be the standard and be all end all port, having only 1 seems ridiculous right?
i don't know. it's obvious too, just look at the first answer to this thread "you already can on the current MacBook Pro©"
and other phrases like "Just use one and you will know" ©jony ive 2014
and other posts by people defending the indefensible "HURR USB ON LAPTOP IS USELESS FOR PROFESSIONALS"
Guess what events get a sticky on /g/.
DEF CON? No.
Black Hat Briefings? No.
Chaos Communication Congress? No.
Hackers on Planet Earth? No.
Mobile World Congress? No.
TechCrunch Disrupt? No.
Shitty event for stolen products in a new case with Apple logos stamped on them? Yes. For several days continuously.
Mods are the fucking cancer killing this board and promoting acceptance of these brain dead retards and allowing them to congregate instead of banning the technology illiterate morons on sight.
I often like to think that people who post stuff like that actually think that Apple pays people to post here. It's just an amusing thought that they rather believe in some stupid conspiracy bullshit than just admitting that Apple products might be not as bad as they want them to be.
I often wonder what exactly people project on Apple to hate it so much.
i spent more than $7k on apple products in my life. i had a powermac G5, which was AMAZING and at the time was the best workstation available for any amount of money. i bought 2 macbooks, the mk1 2006 model (which was already expensive at $1200, but i didn't care cause i got 6 hours of battery when other similar laptops had 3, i had the magsafe, a good dual core CPU, and a very good design) and an unibody MBP, which was okay (but i preferred my MK1 macbook). i bought the first ipod touch. the first ipod nano. the first ipod classic. so i am NOT biased against apple.
today ? i won't buy any more apple stuff, because i think you'd be absolutely retarded to do so and apple fucks its customers in the ass. the new mac pro is a turd and looks like a trash can. the iphone is absolutely useless when i can get a $200 chink phone with full HD, 8 cores, dual sim, 2gb of ram and a removable battery and micro SD slot. (i can buy a new phone every year for 4 years and it'd still be cheaper than a single 6+) ipods are now useless because phones. and the macbooks are just a bad joke. $1500 for a 1.2ghz dual core and no usb ports ? nope nope nope nope
apple used to be worth the price because they did stuff better than other brands. now ? they don't need to because retards will buy anything they make even if it's shit. so FUCK them
>Considering this is the fastest port
Thunderbolt is faster
>does that mean we will eventually be able to connect an external video card to it to beef up our laptops' graphical power?
PCIe 3.0 1x transfers data at 1GB/s which would be 8Gbps.
USB 3.1 does 10Gbps as its theoretical max, which it probably wouldn't get to in real world use. So there's a possibility that you could see some kind of external GPU, but it would be limited in speed.
Look at the retard who has never touched a Macbook in his life.
>this is a macfags actual solution, bringing a desktop with you
What are you doing where you really need to travel with that much shit? I travel for work. I don't bring a million accessories because a laptop is meant to be portable. I have a desktop for connecting a million things to.
I use a macbook at work. My clients would not be happy with me if I used anything other than an apple product (people do it, but that's not good business).
I frequently need to plug in a usb to serial adapter to serial into servers. Sometimes I will also have to plug in a monitor/keyboard (so I use a virtual crash cart). I also occasionally need to access the server via ssh/network so I have to plug into ethernet.
That's 3 USB devices I would need to do my job, and my macbook only has 2. Luckily I found a USB ethernet adapter with 3 USB ports. Also if I unplug the USB to Serial adapter with Zterm open, it will more than likely crash my computer, so I do have to be very careful.
I think that the single USB-C port, provided it split into at least 4 USB A, Ethernet, and Power, would be OK with me.
If you really want to connect a bunch of shit get another laptop then. You have a choice as a consumer. I think the new Macbook would fit my use case as I'm not so poor as to not have a desktop for heavy lifting. Yes, I was one of those people who praised netbooks for similar reasons.
>My clients would not be happy with me if I used anything other than an apple product
Do they think plugging your non-Apple machine into their shit will automatically give them viruses?

Fucking summer in the name, I don't even need to say anything else.
And I'm sure all the other shit you posted is as ebin and cancer as those.
ITT: macshills implying if my laptop has a bunch of ports I have to justify using them all the time
I don't need them most of the time. However in the remaining time they are freakin' useful.
>Need to transfer ~100G from/to my NAS? Just hook up that Gb ethernet port.
>Need to hold a presentation in the shitty uni where the projector only have a VGA cable? No prob.
>Need to read an SD card?
>Hook up external hard drive.
Why do you pretend that these things aren't useful? If you pay for a MB you pay more for less. There is no disadvantage having these ports.
>who uses USB keys nowadays?
Pretty much everyone? Booting, transporting files, small back-up etc. etc.
A 1 port is not enough on any device and it's even more useless since nobody uses USB-C yet.
>using a plebian USB mouse instead of the superior trackpad
>using an easy-to-lose device to store your porn and school documents instead of the cloud
>spending $1299 + $79 to get any logical use out of the one port when you can spend $1299 on the objectively better 13" rMBP base model with more ports, power, and relatively less fragile.
I didn't ask for this laptop to happen
>Need to transfer ~100G from/to my NAS? Just hook up that Gb ethernet port.
You don't even need to hook it up if you just leave the ethernet cable connected to your USB hub. You will get that speed simply by pluging in into one single connector, together with keyboard, mouse, power, external monitor and audio.
Think about it, you don't have to connect 6 fucking connectors when you come home and leave. You could already do that with thunderbolt, but the adapters were too expensive and didn't deliver power. This is now solved, usb TypeC is an open standard, there will be more adapters and cheaper ones, this is the future guys, just wait a few years and everyone will do it like that.
