>Somebody asks what's a good antivirus
>pretend expert faggot comes in
>hurr malwarebytes is no antivirus use windows defender
>duurrr my pc is slow
>derrrp use ccleaner to make your system faster
>also install tuneup utilities it's the best!
Uninformed opinions general?
I'm thinking of starting an IT business where I'm on call and help small business's/individuals with computer problems and shit and the only thing holding me back is this
People are fucking autistic and will ALWAYS blame me for an issue if I was the last one to work on it.
Also is this a good idea or am I delusional
well thats the problem every IT-Guy has to deal with. Sadly uninformed people will allways search for guilty people since in their mind they didn't do anything wrong.
>>AVg / Avira
> will catch virtually all threats
> "viruses" aren't really a thing anymore
>People are fucking autistic and will ALWAYS blame me for an issue if I was the last one to work on it.
unfortunately that's just how some people are like
>I don't use a virus scanner.
>I haven't had a virus for years. Le Common Sense! XD
>run a scan on their computer - 3 threats detected
I own a small notebook shop and for people like that, i always suggest them something made by Apple. It works wonder and the amount of costumers that bother me for free tech support declines considerably.
Different guy here, just asking out of pure curiosity
how much would you even charge a company if you were doing it by the year? It seems like it'd be hard to set a price if you don't know how much work you'll be doing for them
CCleaner does exactly what it says: clear temp files.
No more, no less.
It doesn't speed up anything most of the time, it's all placebo. All it does is free up disk space that will be taken up again soon anyway
People are rarely willing to take responsibility, especially for things they have poor understanding of.
>I'm just using it, not doing anything, how could I brake it?
>I didn't do nothing, not even touched it today!
>hurr IE is shit I know this cause the geeks at Gaia Online told me in middle school I use le sjwfox/chrome
Why is this preventing you?
If you bill by the hour, then you get big bucks for answering stupid questions.
I work for a company that offers IT like this to businesses, it seems very profitable.
In all fairness, in my experience, most IT people are lazy cunts who wont get off their fat asses and fix a problem.
And the amount of smug posts I've seen on /g/ regarding IT work only confirm this.
Shit has scheduled scans that makes me agry by slowing the start up, even though I unchecked the "start MB at startup" shit.
Goddamn, how do I turn it off and stop being a retard?
The term antimalware is just a marketing buzzword, think that viruses are a kind of malware and that Antivirus dont target only viruses, they also go for adware, worms and other kinds of malware.
Nope, it wont catch all, actually, it wont catch nearly anything unless its a skiddie malware, and you are right on the fact that "viruses" arent a thing anymore if you are talking about all those old viruses from the late 90s, those didnt generate the owners revenue at all. Now they focus on banking trojan botnets, that gives them a lot of money. If the malware is properly crypted, your antivirus wont do shit.
Great post, first time I see a clever reply to a meme
>Been using MSE/Win Defender for six years, whatever the fuck I used before that and updated my CommonSense Pro+ every year
>MBAM, JRT and AdwCleaner once a month
>Haven't seen a single virus or malware for some 10 years
Stupid people will always find a reason to stay stupid.
This is what I cleaned from a coworkers home laptop a week ago.
>Windows registry should be cleaned after uninstalling a program
Sometimes I wished Microsoft would enforce this shit on developers, the same way that Apple does...
I fucking hope so. 90% of the complains about Windows slowing down after months of usage, can be boiled down to developers not making sure their uninstaller also cleans out the registry.
oh sod off, i havent used one since 7 came out. i got my process explorer with network traffic tab and msconfig to check autostart / services. what can i miss - a rootkit that 99% of virus scanners wont recognize and maybe some nsa tier firmware shittery, and both of those would generate traffic visible in pe.
every year or so i run malwarebytes and nod to check shit - best ive gotten with em were cookies and remnants of some autostarting cancer i killed as soon as it got installed with some pirated vidya.
quality post friend. what you fail to understand is that PE wont protect you from crimeware kits that skids use (blackhole, citadel, etc) while a proper security architecture will (having AV, antimalware, and a HIDS) on the other hand is the only proper entry level solution.
>what you fail to understand is that PE wont protect you from crimeware kits that skids use (blackhole, citadel, etc) while a proper security architecture will (having AV, antimalware, and a HIDS) on the other hand is the only proper entry level solution.
looooooollll nice buzzwords
5 year with no AV, and haven't got any viruses. enjoy your bloat
jayses fucking christ these are words now?
do kindly fuck off and dont forget to stuff them buzzwords up your arse on the way.
>entry level solution
icba to read up on the malware libs you mentioned, but somehow i fucking strongly doubt they include stealth shit like reporting false stats to os or even running as anything other than a unique process or service.
ok, i actually read up on those kits. this funposter is pants on the head retarded.
So should I re-download AVG?
I had it for a while and it kept bothering me to upgrade and shit. I have Malwarebytes now
This seem like a good place to ask
At work, the laptop have to be "fucked" by different USB storage devices.
What's the best way to defend against that?
I've disabled autoplay from the group policy.
And scan with MWB.
What else can I do?
Fuck you you commie ruskie bastards, I'm not using anything made by you fucks.
Your lackeys exposed vital intelligence gathering information that could save lives from terrorist attacks.
You harbor that traitor pig Snowden.
Your still Communists in disguise, and I'm not falling for it.
We'll beat your asses to pulp, Reds, just you wait and see.
America is the new Roman Empire, but this time, it'll be eternal.
>and haven't got any viruses
But how would you know?
whats that noise? is that the barbarian dindus and feminazis singing heyeayea at the iron gates to your burger storage bunker?
I did under the table IT for 3 years while I was basically homeless. I mostly worked on college student computers with major malware problems, ransomware, fixed printers, designed riggs, etc.
If you do it cheap enough and get fairly decent results, ie get a computer crippled by malware functional again people usually are fine with it.
I charged $20 an hour and most problems took like three hours max and no one ever had a problem with my services
That is literally what I do for a living. Sometimes people get pissed and start blaming me for things I never worked on (you broke muh internet!) but all you have to do is explain to them that the actions you performed are entirely unrelated to the issue they're having. Sometimes if they calm down and behave I'll just help them out with it even if I wasn't originally called in to fix it.
I'm starting to think you cunts have brain damage.
I don't use Windows because i don't need anything Windows specific, but if I did i would use it the way it was intended to be used.
Set up all programs that are intended to be used daily. ie browsers with ublock or similar installed, office suites.etc
Set up effective and stringent firewall rules.
Automate windows update.
Create accounts lacking any elevated priviledges for anybody using the computer regularly INCLUDING MYSELF.
(YOU KNOW, how windows actually advises not to use root/administrator accounts for general use and has advised such since fucking xp)
Any time I need to install something I'd log in to the administrator account/enter password and suddenly I'm concentrating on what I'm doing and not blindly clicking through prompts like a bumbling retard.
Voila, 95% of bullshit can't be installed without your knowledge because it doesn't have elevated priviledges and user error is virtually eliminated.
There is a reason that GNU/Linux, OSX, *BSD all use the same strategy, because it works.
Genuinely, if you post a screenshot logged in as root in a thread full of freetards you get laughed at, but every windows user I know does it 24/7 and wonder why they have security issues.
The last thing i would ever do to anything i rely on is install unnecessary bullshit that sits in the backround and eating cpu cycles, phoning home and cataloging files all day.
great post my friend well typed!
>tfw I always use da admin accound
PC technician here. We actually use malwarebytes and CCleaner and a smattering of other tools at our place of work. Cleaner is basically a bunch of shortcuts to system clean operations in windows, so its good for that. The malwarebytes we use is a professional one.
>most IT people are lazy cunts who wont get off their fat asses and fix a problem.
The 'problem' is usually the user, which very much complicates the whole 'fixing' thing, unless you blow their fucking head off.
Tell me if you guys think this I'd stupid... I factory reset my PC every month so that I can fix issues with windows and know how to install drivers better? Anyone else do this I find it to be pretty fun any opinions?
>on a website
>the tab it's in gets hijacked, but nothing else
>this happened 3 days ago and nothing has happened since
>everything says if it's not a consistent thing, it's not a big deal and that page itself is harmless
>my computer is clean
>cause the geeks at Gaia Online told me in middle school
>Hey, can you fix my friends computer?
>check it out
>random ass "anti-virus" programs everywhere
>seconds later a fake Adobe Flash update window pops up, doesn't even have the right icon
>random pop ups from those programs
>10 minutes later and it's fixed
>didn't get to fuck her 8/10 daughter
I'm amazed that these people are functioning in today's society.
Do it. They might blame you at first, but then put the blame right back on them (nicely). In my example, she said some IT guy came over, but that shithead fucked up just as bad and I explained that to her. She said okay and went back to during her thing.
>People are fucking autistic and will ALWAYS blame me for an issue if I was the last one to work on it.
Once a 35~40 year old mother brought me a cheap looking lenovo laptop and told me to fix it because it couldn't start and a black screen with white letters came up every time she tried to boot it up.
I could see that he dropped it and i assumed the HDD was damaged and it indeed was, i couldn't save anything, i switched it for a 500GB one and installed windows.
When i told her i changed the HDD she almost wanted to kill me right there, specially when i told her i couldn't rescue nothing and that it would be $80.
>Hi how can I help you?
>my computer is having this problem where it does this thing and it's weird
>...ok what exactly is it doing
>well I try doing this and it's not working like it used to
>ok do you remember anything, like what the error message said, or anything? What program you were in, or what you were doing?
>no I don't remember
THEN WHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO ABOUT IT
>detects .dll's you used to crack the program
This always scares me
