Can someone tell me what the FUCK is going with intel and the lack of CPU performance gains?
Are they such jews to the point where they're holding back progress on purpose, or is it because AMD isn't pushing them? Or is it just fucking hard to get real performance gains at this point, since die shrinks are getting harder and harder?
I have a 2500k. There is LITERALLY ZERO reason to upgrade. It's like they don't even want your money.
I have a 2500k as well. Never felt the need to upgrade either. I also have a 4th gen i7 in another PC, but I don't really feel much difference (programming and gaming is what I mostly do on these).
>or is it because AMD isn't pushing them
AMD is such a joke that they aren't any serious competition for Intel.
Maybe when AMD puts out a CPU that doesn't get wiped by an Intel with half the cores and a lower clock speed, then they'll have to start improving again.
Depends on what you mean by performance :^)
They're working on thermal, power consumption and die size.
Right now there isn't a huge need for more processing power in consumer products. That will change but right now they're working on other performance metrics.
>I have AUTISM, this means I lack the SOCIAL GRACES or CRITICAL THOUGHT to know that when a text medium doesn't allow ITALICIZED or BOLD characters, CAPITALS are used for EMPHASIS
Lol alright what ever helps you sleep at night
>nobody uses my archaic method of communicating in plaintext
>I know, I'll insult them!
Also I've been using forums that allow basic formatting such as bolding or italics since like, 2003. I don't know what shitty forums you've been on.
Then at least use the right dates and let everyone know you're just some old fart that's better disregarded.
They can't. Only AMD and Intel are allowed to make x86 processors.
2 of those 3 are still used to this day. And guess how people emphasis text? All caps is considered rude.
In fact, I'm looking at a mailing list message right now (which most FOSS projects use for general communication more than shit like forums), and guess what it uses for emphasis? As an added bonus, my mail client even automatically adds the intended formatting when displaying the message.
i7 2600k OC master race reporting.
>Still running with the stock cooler since release
Intel has no reason to make any serious gains because their only competition is a complete fucking joke in the CPU market. It's more profitable to just keep constantly making refreshes of refreshes.
It's the same shit in the GPU market.
I don't know man, I visit a few boards and can pretty much count on the same fucking threads to be in there every time with the same fucking meme images being posted every time.
Yet I still want to waste all my life here. I can't leave.
>mfw also still using the stock cooler
People lied to me, this shit is neither loud nor hot. I don't know about AMD stock coolers because I don't use their trash chips, but Intel's stock cooler with the copper baseplate is pretty gr8.
A lot of companies in various markets do this; maintain the status quo and just put out a new product every now and then with minimal performance increase, a fresh coat of paint and a new marketing scheme.
Until a competitor comes along and shakes up the market, then they release their secret weapon.
If they constantly released updates and product improvements then they'd have to innovate more often and spend more on R&D.
my 4930K is way faster than your old shit
That's just it, you visit a few boards. There are massive differences in posting between many of the major boards. A lot of the 4chan "culture" of being an asshole, posting frogs, or calling people faggots and niggers isn't even a big thing on certain boards these days. Go on /a/ and try any of those. People are either over it or never got into it in the first place. You get on certain boards like /cgl/ and there's more reddit influence than 4chan at this point.
What exactly is the big problem with the clips? I never really remove my cooler that much so maybe I wouldn't know but installing it has always been easy for me.
> Don't play vidya
> Literally no reason to upgrade.
I'm pretty wealthy but I just can't find a good reason to upgrade. This pc is still adequately fast.
>implying anyone can break into the CPU market
Kek, only reason AMD exists is because without them, Intel would be a monopoly. Intel and AMD have locked arms in Jewery, same with NVIDIA and AMD.
>Can someone tell me what the FUCK is going with intel and the lack of CPU performance gains?
Lack of competition on the high performance segment means that they don't need to work in that direction.
What they do have a lot of competition is the low-power segment, which is why Broadwell only has mobile and BGA chips announced so far.
Intel is really worried that in a market with an open x86 they would have to compete.
Even with just one competitor, AMD got off the leash once and was able to force Intel to abandon their plans for Itanium to extract more money from the market. Now they have AMD safely neutered, unable to release anything competitive on the high end, and unwilling to release anything disruptive on the low end because it would jeopardize their console business.
Think how different it would be if Nvidia was able to make x86 SOC chips? We'd be seeing Steam Machines this year with cheap single chip solutions capable of 1080p gaming, instead of the low end Steam Machines being built around Intel CPUs with separate Nvidia graphics chips.
>Steam Machines this year with cheap single chip solutions capable of 1080p gaming
If only AMD would sort out the clusterfuck that is their Linux driver situation, they'd have a perfect application for their APUs.
The only AMD that can keep up with the latest intel processors cost as much as an intel processor, while burning more power and circuits. Not content with that alone, it requires liquid cooling just to operate.
>I have a 2500k. There is LITERALLY ZERO reason to upgrade. It's like they don't even want your money.
Nigga, look at benchmarks.
The performance is there, you just have ZERO NEED to upgrade, faggot.
because mobile is the future and they're working on improving power consumption so they could win the ARM war.
x86 already faster than ARM based processors so there's no real need to spend money on that.
> double the number of parallel threads
> more cache
> support for faster memory
> increased energy efficiency
Wow, its those Joos just put a new label on it to get more sheckels from the sheep! hahahaha
yeah nah, that's a piece of shit
Minimum transistor switching time
Thermal performance limits
These are the two big ones. Both of them can be overcome with current technology, but the price vs value just gets blown away.
I think R&D's next vector is not solely performance, as we pretty much have all we could ever need, but getting the same performance into a chip that can function while being cooled passively. Would be based as fuck having processor running maximum with just a heat-sink. I remember in 486 days when heat generation wasn't an issue. I guess this comes alongside current R&D efforts of minimizing power consumption
