>Comcast today announced it will launch Extreme 250, a new 250 Mbps Internet speed tier for California customers. The company also will increase its Performance tier from 50 Mbps to 75 Mbps and its Blast tier from 105 Mbps to 150 Mbps, both at no additional cost to customers. These changes will go into effect starting in May and continue throughout the year.
>In addition, Comcast will roll out its residential multi-gigabit broadband service to nearly three million California homes starting in June. Gigabit Pro is a symmetrical, 2 Gigabit-per-second service that will be delivered via a fiber-to-the-home solution and offered to customers in the Chico, Fresno, Marysville/Yuba City, Merced, Modesto, Monterey, Sacramento, Salinas, San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Barbara County, Stockton and Visalia metro areas*.
Who's going to upgrade to 250Mbps? Who is going to pay insane amounts for a 2Gbps installation? Who else gonna be upgraded to 150 for free tier?
It's going to feel odd not having shit Internet in Stockton.
I just dropped comcast. well tuesday i am. I am gettinv century link. sure my speed is nice. but my fucking bill is $170 a month. they tax the fuck out of everything. even shit i don't have. horrible company
I wonder when some of these cities got a fiber network. I never heard of fiber being laid in norcal, neat. Too bad Cuntcast took this long to either use their own network if it was theirs or buy rights to it if it's not. I fucking get so mad when I realize an area has fiber just sitting under the fucking ground.
Fuck, this area is not part of the bandwidth cap yet, though Cuntcast said they are making it nationwide. Do you think they will roll that cap out at the same time as the speed increase? I hope that is delayed. ;_;
My modem doesn;t need upgrading to get any of the new speeds that are part of the free upgrades, but yeah, the fiber shit they force you to use their shit and charge for it. Logan from Tek Syndicate tried to get a business connection from them and they said he would have to use their shit.
>time warner rep knocks on door
>tells me about new 50mbps connection
>tell him I've had it for a year
>asks if I want to upgrade to 75mbps plan or add cable
>tell him he can't even saturate my 50mbps connection at lowest traffic hours
>tell him time warner is shit and I would switch if I had literally any other option
I already called their office for our town and complained for a discount on top of my military discount so I what I pay is closet in line to the ~15mbps they give me. Sucks I had to make it awkward for a middle man.
There is no competition from Google or any other fiber planned in Norcal, except San Jose is in the running to be a Google Fiber city. Why did they expand to so much of Norcal with fiber if Google isn't there?
I live in California's hat AKA Oregon
can I have some fast internet too?
Because there's actual competition regardless of what the retards on /g/ say.
There's a lot of fiber in NorCal that's been laid decades ago, just never used, called dark fiber. I believe it was laid so that companies like AT&T can lay claim or fulfill some legal obligation and never used it. Problem is, other companies have to go through a bunch of shit to even touch it so expansion by them is stunted.
>huge swathes of the country are dominated by only single providers
>"wtf stop complaining just move"
That's just cable providers theres also a ton of DSL (which can be faster than cable) and fiber optic companies.
So then tell me why Comcast is upgrading their speeds in California where there's supposedly no competition and TWC upgrading a ton of areas where they also don't have any competition, according to you.
>mfw 50Mbps available through my shitty small town cable provider
>mfw on cheapest 16Mbps plan
What the fuck do people even do with 250Mbps+?
I'd like a more symmetric connection (20/20 or something like that would be awesome) since do a fair amount of streaming and downloading files from home file server, but 2Gbps? Come on now.
I would be content with 20/20. The biggest thing I ever download is the occasional movie, which is at most 10GB.
The problem, though, is nobody offers symmetrical connections. I don't think I could get a 20Mb up speed in my city.
>tfw no terrestrial broadband
>tfw 12 meg connection
>tfw 10 gig cap
>tfw no streaming
>tfw it drops to ~400 kilobit after the cap
>tfw .zip, .rar, mega, apt repos, yum repos, torrents, and YT are blocked after 10 gigs.
>tfw newegg and amazon load so slowly I can't shop after the cap is hit
>tfw paying $70 a month for this shit
>Comcast scared to shit of google fibre
Top lel. Remember when google fiber was first rolling out the CEO said no one wants gigabit internet?
Cc and twc, not even once
...even though I have them because they're the only option in my area
I do. >>47601874 is me. Was trying to point out that what they advertise and what you get is vastly different 90% of time. It was even worse when I lived in San Antonio: pay for 50mbps, get .3 during peak hours and 3 rest of day
And people didn't give a shit about a responsive touch interface until apple showed them how good it could be. I didnt think i needed anything more than a tn monitor until i got an ips. Most people don't care, I agree. They will care when they find out they can be paying less money for 10x the speed.
Comcast is going to get its just desserts soon enough, and god will I be happy. If for no other reason then I'll be able to have good internet at a reasonable price like the rest of the developed world.
