Okay, so I was trying something in Ai before just to learn how to do it and to get familiar with the program. I didn't think the task I chose was hard and that it is a good idea for learning the basics. However, I cannot find anything useful on the Adobe page since I have no idea what to look for. When I try, their names for tools and workflows are confusing to me and, ironically, it is not really well illustrated. I have failed so often now that I am fucking mad. I really need someone to explain the best practice how to accomplish this:
I used the letter W that... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>273594 Not my first language so I kind of scrambled. Anyway, I found the solution how to do it. Line tool to "connect" the paths (although they are still both seperate entities then). Then Pathfinder, divide the shapes and you're pretty much done alread except for the color. Found multiple ways but none of the others worked consistently for each part of the letter. Don't know if this is the best practice, though.
Also thanks for your suggestion but this is mostly about learning to work with paths,... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>273393 What's the point of this thread OP? Debunking the mac meme? Also, your pic is retarded. Nothing is even close to the size it should have and that perspective. Love the fact that the case has core 2 duo and win7 stickers
>>273393 I'll bite the bait. If anyone knows of a laptop trackpad as smooth as the one on macbooks I'm interested. I've been wanting to switch back to pc for some time now but I can find the same ergonomy.
I've been thinking about sending out a VERY GOOD Microsoft Powerpoint presentation to different marketing and graphic design places in my area. Is this a good idea? Something short that can fit on a floppy disk so maybe five or so pages. I also wanted to add in some extremely sick slide transitions and the "boing" noise when the slide goes.
Thoughts? Will I stand out from the crowd in this highly competitive and cut-throat market?
>>272601 How on earth could any of us verify that we do to any degree of satisfaction that we're not cat fishing or trolling, without opening ourselves up to spam or abuse?
And more importantly, who cares? We're shitty because design molds us to be through disappointment, resentment, jealousy, and overwhelming feelings of inadequacy, regardless of actual skill level or demonstratable merit.
This is about design in general. The last years I've been to many seminars and courses about interface design, industrial design, etc. and every single one of them tought me that the Dieter Rams/Braun design as well as Apple design is probably the only good way of design. White, minimalistic, clean and edged.
What do you think about it? If everything is designed in that way, wouldn't it be pretty boring, cold and without any connection to a culture (depending on the location).
The more I look at all those Dieter Ram's style products, the more tired... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I get your point but I think you may be taking the courses a bit too literal. You shouldn't just do the same thing that Rams did, but you should take his design philosophies in account, I think they are saying. I agree that saying everything should be designed according to any specific philosophy is detrimental to the industry as a whole though.
Pic unrelated. It does show that within the same philosophy you can have a lot of variation.
>>273426 i tried it. i also tried to determine the time code at the end of the timeline. but all that happens is the timeline itself gets expanded. For example at the end of my time code i need to have the timecode to begin with 28: - so what movie studio does is displaying it in hours which would be 04:06:40,270.
I tried other displaying options but none of them helped. ...
>>273428 what about if you fake it? for example you start with the first 2 numbers and move on to the others on after effects it shouldn't be that hard however it could take a while to animate each manually.
I've been offered a job to work with a printer but the boss wants me to use Corel Draw when I've only ever used the Adobe Suite. Is there much of a learning curve if you know Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign? Is it easy to transfer projects from one to the other?
>>272371 Personally i haven't used corel for a couple of years now, most recent version i remember was X5. Currently only using CC suite and as with everything else - it has its own pros and cons.
Biggest pro for corel is its ability to work in full scale with, I believe unlimited artboard size which comes in handy when industry you're working for is a large format printing and applications. It did however had some issues with using profiles and colours in general. Gradients and raster effects were pretty bad as well.
If you got used to AI you will find incredibly irritating to work with paths, clipping masks and the worst of all layers as the layer manager is ridiculous and clipping masks works in completely fucked up way.
Also forget about importing AIs to Corel and CDRs to AI as currently there are not compatible at all as far as I'm aware. Way round it is to work of PDF's but corel saves them in messed way it only holds it appearance but its not editable in AI and vice versa.
Paths, anchors and curves work differently as by default corel uses equal bezier somewhat familiar to Photoshop but again - different to AI so some time will take to adjust to new key shortcuts.
I used x4 at work and it sucks. When the program crashed it made the last save corrupt and i had to constantly zoom in and out to see my picture properly. It was ridiculously buggy and horribly designed.
>>273136 does it work on black on white? it could work better if the big A were in the center and avoid color until the shape seems right. >>273137 i think it's been a decade since someone used bevel and emboss on their logo. it could look way better using a "hand brush" font.
I applied for two universities. The first is a one year course that skips straight to the final year project. I was told during the interview that I was lacking the fundamental skills and I might not be able to cope but a few weeks later, I found out that I got accepted.
The other that I really wanted get into is a standard three years course but I got sent a rejection letter one day after the interview. I'm not sure what I should do now. Should I just wing it and go into the one year course and do lots of self-study and hope to graduate from the course with no... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
OP here, I was wondering about the edges, they aren't straight and I was wondering how to do it since I was planning to re-do the lettering with shapes. The font is Block Berthold Condensed if anyone was wondering. All i needed to do was slightly blur it.
