This looks fantastic, besides the choice of font as others have said, especially so on the spine.
If you don't mind my asking, how exactly did you get that beautiful paint/sketch aesthetic, besides the obvious stuff like Warp? Was it all done by hand, or was there some kind of layering/filtering going on?
Hey /gd/ help me name my Web Design Company for my course final project. Some information: My name is Danny/Daniel, the project was to create your own company, framework, business plan, mock site etc. Doesn't have to be phonetic with my name but it wouldn't hurt. I suck at naming things and maybe you guys can come up with something catchy. Inb4 DanielDesign.
>>270544 Even though they're cigarettes and such they still try to have attractive sleek packaging sort of mimicking the old decorated cigar boxes in a way. Your design isn't very appealing and the thick black lines especially so.
You may just want to restart from scratch and go with something a bit more appealing and less generic.
Also that colour isn't very nice on a cigarette package and I'd almost think I'm buying seeds for a new Apple tree or whatever.
Never posted on this board before but here it goes
I'm looking to purchase a vinyl cutter and am wanting to know if these ebay cutters are as bad as everybody says. Of course people with Roland cutters will say they're shit, but i won't be using it on a commercial level.
Hey man, don't ever ask gd to critique your stuff. Bunch of wannabe designers without two good pieces to display, mostly nineteen year old students of political science trying to be "artsy" by drooling over gimp, just cause it don't cost no money. So, save it. /gd/ don't mean graphic design, it means god damnit, as in God damnit when will someone who is really into graphic design come here. Behance is where it's at. You're welcome.
>>270257 >draw lines only if you have a few days to spare. >>270242 i haven't done it but there's seems to be quite a few ways to do it automatically (envelope distort, transform, shear, 3d extrude with 0 depth, perspective tool, etc) another easy way could be on a 3d software just copy a bunch of planes/clone array and position the camera in the middle then just image traced it on ai. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KPHYfDVq_0
I have an interesting challenge for yall, i have an appointment for getting a new tattoo tomorrow, this is a serious thread, if any of you artists have interesting or cool art, post it up, ill pick my fave and get it done and post it up when im done.
Doesn't change it from being a request thread like all the rest, unless you're offering payment. Guess what, getting out shit scrawled on your body isn't some life milestone that we are looking forward to.
>>268242 it looks like two mountains tbqh. the name should be bigger, is there a need for 2 pencils? and the pencils needs to be a little more obvious. one idea i just had that could be interesting it's a logo that look like pencil it's drawing the company name like one of those m.c. escher drawings. lately i've seen more people requesting more organic/hand made designs.
how many threads did you make on /gd/ ? This in't your blog. I remember your frenchfag name and your dorky logo.
Anyway, there are tons of people who study motion graphics as their major, and they are VERY good (I don't do it myself, but here's one of my friend's reel https://vimeo.com/63595565). It's a high-stakes business and you really need to master 3d as well as 2d, plus having original style(s). But it's a rewarding discipline if youre ready to devote your life to it, and you get a lot more creative freedom than in graphic design.
So far it looks good OP, but a few things I would do different are:
- Adjust some colors. For example: The circle containing 'hi' at the very start curses with the background color. Also the background color of the slide with the Adobe logos don't match color wise
- Do something more with de last half minute. It's a bit boring compared to the rest of your video. As it contains less movement, you could say there is a style difference. Do something with the cat for example, or chop up the information you want to bring across in smaller packs
>>269596 Ah, kinda not really a grid; more like an image of angled guidelines at an equal spacing- and you don't need to learn to use it, you just use it.
That design probably started as a sin-wave line, and then evolved into two waves. Then he was like "hey, I can just copy pasta a bunch of guidelines, move things around so they are all even, and then people will think I'm cool."
So my portfolio for Uni wasn't good enough. I made a
1) Personal logo 2) Two alternative movie posters 3) A cafe poster 4) A business card with front and back 5) A music album cover with front and back 6) A pet magazine cover and a fashion magazine cover
So I'm gonna try again at another university... What else should I include or replace?
>>269416 Judging by your work you need to further refine your style/work. Good luck getting into Uni.
What country are you in?
In my experience a smaller portfolio of consisting of only your best work is better than trying to create a large portfolio.
The best thing I could tell you to do would be to discuss the theory of your work to the person reviewing it. Even if your work is not at professional quality (which no one should expect anyway if you are trying to get into education) being able to talk about... Comment too long. Anyone have any good expierence with 99designs or other type of crowd sourced jobs? I'm thinking of getting into it to increase my monthly income, but heard negative things from some artistic communities so I'm a bit on the fence.
Does anyone use these type of platforms as a real income, or is it usually just pocket change that you can't rely on?
>>269067 >a real income >from 99 >nope.jpg you can do it (or 'try it') if you got time/need experience/dont need cash - because you'll never make any, and the process itself (zero communication with client, etc) is vaguely soul destroying. And some template knock.off always wins anyway. Got a thick skin and lo expectations, good; otherwise, its really not, avoid and find something worthwhile.
