Not bad. Looks Faze as fuck. Long-shadow is still just within the bounds of not-shit, but maybe redo in a year. Also come up with a policy for where this isn't cropped within a small square (where does the shadow end?)
Tuck that shadow corner in on the bottom left of the M though. Untidy.
Im trying to put him in a Baltimore Ravens jersey, but I cant find a good image of a player in the angle he has in the photo. I managed to get the helmet near perfect but I cant get the jersey right. Currently using Gimp because I dont like Photoshop because im too used to Gimp
Hopefully you guys can help me. I'm wondering what filter or effect is used on the way this video is recorded. It's hard for me to explain but it gives a relatistic feel. I've seen movies played in big box stores with this "motion effect" what is it?
Depends on the copyright on each image. If there's no copyright at all, feel free. Creative Commons, go for it. If nothing's listed, I wouldn't assume it doesn't have a copyright as that could put you in a bit of legal trouble, so as a general rule of thumb if nothing's listed copyright wise just contact the original creator. If they won't answer / can't find them, that's when you have to ask yourself risk/reward for using a potentially copyrighted image in something you'd make money for.
>>253485 I might not be explaining this well. I'm trying to work with some publishers that made decent profits and sell at all the main book stores. what I'm trying to get them to publish has a lot of images of cute girls from tumblr, 4chan pics, stuff i took off tumblr like 4 years ago, a few typefaces I pirated. even some todd hido images, but mostly just images anon has took and posted on 4chan.
worried they are about to be like where did you get this btw? can i just lie?

Most annoying problems/anomalies/whatthefucks in Graphic/WEB design Thread.
Biggest for me so far:
Different monitors showing way different colors. So I am pretty glad of what my laptop monitor is showing, the colors are nice, not too bright, I would assume - very well calibrated (factory calibrated). So I went to school today, and I had some time to kill, so I logged in on a computer (all monitors are the same - LCD Samsung) to see how my website looks on a different resolution monitor. And I immediately whatthefuck... The nice Pantone greens I used are fucked... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>252929 My monitor shows colors similar to print - that I assume is the best calibration for a monitor. You may assume I would be saying that other monitors are crap. - Well, Yes. That's what it looks like. They look like if I was to add +20 to my monitor saturation and -5 hue. This issue is still a fucking nightmare. I won't be using Pantone colors in my designs, that's for sure.
>>252927 You don't need 2 screens at home, you need pantone swatches if you're working with pantone colours. Doesn't matter if you get 2 monitors to match, it will never match ink on paper.
Factory calibrated is very blue, actually, you should look into calibration software for your purposes. Colour calibrating is actually quite difficult to get right, and if you're working with print materials you may as well only get it as close as you can and then use real-world swatches and trust them when they... >>253251 good typography. look at medium as a baseline example. readable body text, line height, size, letter spacing, width of the page are all important for comfortable reading. and lots of pretty, well-integrated photos and headers make it more scannable so people don't click away as soon as they see a wall of text.
a good line length is ~11-15 words per line, you've probably noticed that blogs with text running really wide across the page are fuckin chore to read.
Hey guys, I am in a crazy tight financial spot at the moment and basically HAVE to get proficient at web design within months. I am already comfortable with the basic technologies but need to wrap my mind around more complex environments.
Anyways, I was just wondering if y'all could post some web designer portfolio websites that you like?
Also, what are some good framework + CMS combos that you all recommend? I have so many people that want me to make websites for them but they want to be able to update themselves. I am having trouble figuring good tools to get this done.
I'm mostly doing webdesign and front-end developement, but would like to do some print design too and am learning InDesign right now, but I have kind of a stupid question :
When I see all this pretty stationery stuff on design websites, I'm wondering how does this work ? If I design some pretty letter paper and invoices for say, a plumber or a gardener or any small business, what kind of deliverable am I supposed to hand my client over ? Because in the end they will use Word or Open Office... Obviously I can't give them an InDesign template.... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Usually printing is part of the print designer's job, which sounds obvious phrased like that, but no you usually don't expect the client to print it on a home laser printer from Word. They will either already have a print method and in-house ppl to handle that, and so you hand over files, or you will coordinate that and will be helping them order the goods or billing them for the goods yourself.
For example, a basic set of printed matter: business cards, quarterly mailers, envelopes, invoices, and price tags. You design all of it including ink colour, dimension, paper stock, the actual digital design (.indd etc), confirm these choices with the client, place an order with a printer you like or you both agreed on, and send that printer the files they use. Some use pdf only, most take inDesign packages which is an export option that gives you control over whether or not the fonts are embedded or outlined, if the receiver can edit it, etc, and preserves all your CMYK/pantone/spot colour/printer's marks/etc. You add the printer's bill to your invoice along with your own fees and they get the product, and usually the design too if that was part of the deal.
For clients I usually give them .eps, indesign package, .svg, and .pdf as it's what most people are comfortable with. I'm also not opposed to giving them the .indd/.ai but it's usually included in the contract that they cannot alter it significantly. Of course, they will, which creates problems for me, so I limit it to clients who are obviously not stupid or cheap and would just prefer to export however they need to in future.
As you work with companies instead of individuals, they will usually already have relationships with printers they like or will ask you to work with. I have several in my town I like otherwise.
I have completed a task for a job interview and have to return with my "mechanical" files. Can someone explain what this really means? If it means ready to print, which settings should I ensure I used on my files??
>>253385 It's less what they're looking for and more so that they have all the resources and assets available if need be. If you package up all the fonts and assets in an InDesign folder, you know for a fact that whoever opens it will be able to see it exactly as you do; with all the proper fonts and images and everything, instead of them opening it and getting a "Font Missing: Replace?" message, etc.
Is that helpful? I think I understood your question right.
Hi guys i have been interested in graphic desing some time ago, a have a bit of experience with photoshop and i want to learn about it and Adobe Illustrator, if you can send me some tutorials or some advices please... Im sorry I know that my english is not the best.
Hi man. The best thing you can do is reading and practicing a lot. There are some great Photoshop and Illustrator tutorials on Tutsplus, ranging from beginner to advanced, so be sure to check their website.
Also, if you're interested in the retouching part of Photoshop, you might want to check Phlearn's Youtube channel.
Abduzeedo, Spoongraphics and Line25 are also some nice websites.
Hi everybody, I am creating an association with medical students in France, but we have difficulty with the logo, we would like to leave on this base there, if somebody could try to improve it, it would be very kind. It is doctors' association aiming at offering free care, we would like to make a reference to the red cross, while being original
Two things I think might make it look much better since you want it to look like the red cross. 1: Use very blocky letters, it'll make the whole thing look much more like a single object. 2: Combine the L and I by placing the I within the negative space of the L, the idea is to make them take up the space of one single letter, which will balance out your cross visually.
Paid and possible constant future work with potential massive bonus.
I will be happy to pay $10-$20 per clip PLUS a $1000 bonus if my game makes over $100k on release. Must be able to let me choose soundtrack for trailer, and a subtitle. Very simple 2 or 3 different scenes per trailer with fade in and fade out. Editing only needs to change scene on the right music note for it to look good. You will have to capture a couple scenes from the game. Then splice these together to make a 20 second trailer. Basic editing skills required. Please only contact... Comment too long. I'm interested in this, but you didn't really give an email or something to contact you so contact me here; 3GmjTD1fhkwc@meltmail.com Using meltmail as a quick and dirty barrier to my spam email lmfao. Afterwards, I'll get in touch on my real email.
I know this is probaby the wrong area, but Ive tried everywhere so.I have a friend who's running for class president and I'm trying to change the logo in this picture so it will say ROVIRA (rovira) instead of Trump, and for it to say MAKE ANTILLES GREAT AGAIN (make antilles great again) but I want to to be in the same font but, I tried and it looked cheap and shitty when I did it so can someone please take a crack at it?
Just got a fresh job doing environmental design and signage for an advertising company.
I'm confident I can do well enough in the position, but there is one huge catch: I'm supposed to be solid in Corel. I hate Corel. I had to use it at my last job a tad and it just drove me nuts. I am at home in Adobe land and that's where I'd like to stay.
That being said, what are the key differences and what do I need to be most aware of going in Monday? I have plans to take a chunk of tomorrow and familiarize myself with it, but I fear it won't be... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Hmmm... personally ditch the eat sleep code repeat, there's too much going on in the front. Limit yourself to 2 fonts, you can use a light version of one to print the Steve Jobs quote in. Apart from that, not bad. Hope your club goes well
I've been lurking there for weeks now and still don't know when the registrations are open. It'd be of great help if anyone here would let me know on what days/dates the registration would be open, Thanks anons.
