Can we justify human activities that destroy environments and lead chunks of animals to die with a rationale that we are making the strongest of them to survive?
8 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
You can and thats not why destroying enviroment is bad. You also live in that enviroment and so will your future children so making enviroment inhabitable by humans is bad for humanity.
>>
I don't see why not.

Same thing with Social Darwinism. I haven't read an argument against that didn't boil down to muh feels.
>>
You can justify it that way, as long as you include humans in the category of animals who must prove they are strong enough to survive total ecosystem destruction.

/his/ can you help me track the usage of cannabis through history?

Cannabis has a pretty well documented history in India going all the way back to the Vedic period, and there are sources from the modern period that document westerners' exposure to cannabis being used in the Levant and North Africa, and making its way to Europe then.

Other than India and the Near-East I can only find allusions to cannabis use intermittently in China.

Also, Scythians supposedly burned cannabis in saunas, then there is a giant gap, and Sufis are eating hashish in the...

Actually, smoking cannabis was quite popular in most places that grew hemp and it's been used medicinally for hundreds of years if not thousands. It just wasn't well documented since almost all of the people consuming cannabis recreationally were hicks that nobody gave a shit about documenting and medicinally it was treated like most other herbs - known by a slew of local names and knowledge regarding it was generally transmitted orally.

You must realize that at the time Islam wasn't seen as the antithesis of western civilization as it is today. Orientalism was absolutely rampant. To Hitler (or at least as books like Table Talk would suggest) Islam represented a stronger and more righteous religion than Christianity. Where Christianity is submissive and tolerant Islam is aggressive and merciless (according to Hitler anyway).

He is very much revered in France, Russia, and to some extent in the US. He was known as a good general. He managed to conquer and hold his empire for a period of time.

Why are Protestants so quick to criticize gold, frankincense and myrrh being used in worship, because it's too splendorous, yet have pretty much no holy ascetics who renounced wealth to speak of?

Explain. How can Protestants critique wealth used in worship, such as with vestments and chalices, yet none of them is willing to renounce all wealth like countless Orthodox Christians voluntarily have. How are you in any position to criticize wealth when you cling to it?

What are the philosophical outlooks on suicide, /his/? I am trained in science, so I have really no previous foundation here. But I assume this is a subject that must have been boarded at some point by philosophers and other thinkers by its very nature. Suicide is suicide. It's typically frowned upon in society, and to consider it a human right is lazy because human rights are a meme.

To answer your question, basically they take the classic American love of the free market and of entrepreneurship and combine it with anarchism and get this novel hybrid that no one other than them likes. To put it another way, they're libertarians who realized that eliminating the state is the logical conclusion of their beliefs.

Where, academically, those ideas of white privilege and structural racism came from ? I'm from Europe, and have only started to hear people talk about this seriously recently. Conflict breeds opportunities.
People working in racism related fields don't want racial tensions to go down, rather the opposite.
Just like a professional soldier wouldn't want a war to end, just to see his job at risk, his promotion chances smashed, a return to a stricter peacetime discipline, etc., so racial studies professionals (who even if they work in academia are really more politician than teacher) don't want for emotions to cool down just to see his work getting far stricter scrutiny,...

Talking about racism isn't race baiting. Just because you or I have never experienced racism doesn't mean it doesn't exist, so when we do hear instances of it occurring from people who it actually effects, we should listen and take steps fix said issue.
Not talking about racism doesn't make it go away, it hides it in its corner and lets it feed upon its victim and while brinign it out in the open may often be uncomfortable it needs to be addressed
