I've read about modal ontological arguments for the existence of God, and it seems some atheists think that the same sort of argument can be used to argue the non-existence of God:
1. If God exists, God is necessary.
2. It is possibly the case that God doesn't exist.
3. Therefore God is not necessary.
4. Therefore God doesn't exist (modus tollens, from 1)
So /lit/, what's wrong with this argument?
if it weren't for the USA, people everyone in the world would be speaking German now.
>implying there is a problem with speaking German
In WWI, the British and French did most of the work.
In WWII, the Soviets were the prime downfall of every Axis state except Italy and Vichy France.
Plus, if you're an American, there is a high chance you have either German ancestry, or something similar like Anglo-Saxon or French backgrounds, which if you go back to Roman times, they were considered the same.
Has history vindicated him?

In what sense could Roy Cohn's drunk dog boy be "vindicated?"
He never published a list to be held accountable against. His alcoholism is neither here nor there. His media stunting was shown in his era to be limited. And of course Roy Cohn went against the pentagon.
>go to beach
Up until the mid-19th century, the Qing used a kind of 15th century tercio like formation with rattan shield soldiers (in place of rodeleros), pikemen and matchlock muskets (although known of, the flintlock was never adopted on a widescale).
Many of the Chinamen and Chinkaboos who infest /his/ will attempt to deny this.
I don't even know why they would be expecting to deny it. Pike-and-shot formations were developed concurrently and largely-independently in Japan, Europe and China. And nobody is about to deny that the Qing military was criminally outdated by the nineteenth century.
The Chinese never used pikes. To date, /his/ has not been able to produce good and reliable pictures of pike use in ancient China that is not a badly scanned painting or woodblock print.
If Nazi Germany won world war 2 and took over Europe , would the Nazi rule be eventually overthrown or dissolve?
It would take a significant amount of changes in history to create a scenario where Nazi Germany would not only win World War II but control the entirety of Europe--even in the sphere of alternate history it'd be very hard to present a guess or prediction based on such a broad premise and to provide a viable path by which this would happen without risking it just becoming fanfiction.
No it fucking wouldn't. You faggots are the worst.
If you don't have anything to say in an alt hist discussion don't say it at all.
Not everything is "Totally implausible and just speculation".
Here's a radical totally tubular idea for this thread. If Japan decided not to bomb PH and the U.S. doesn't enter the war.
There you go, Germany wins. It's not that insane to think.
Can someone summarize the migrations, conquests and displacements in Europe before the Bronze age? Who, what, when, where? What did they speak? What impact did they have on the way of life?
Who were the European hunter-gatherers? Is it just a generic term for a diverse set of peoples who inhabited Europe or was there a common origin and such?
Are the Early European Farmers just some colonists from the middle east who brought farming?
Were the Indo-Europeans violent subjugators?
Attila the Hun was born in Hungary
Germanic tribes had an empire in north africa
the vikings were one of the most feared warriors in their time, roman and arab scholars praised their tactics, weaponry, and heart. It took the combined forces of the brits, the french, and the italians to stop them
requesting reading lists or recommendations for books that will give me firm understandings of Marxism, socialism, communism, capitalism, and political theories in general too.
[Inbe4 the "Short Intro" series- I already have those on a number of topics and they are as titled just short introductions. I want to be able to debate these issues with the firmest possible grasps of them].
Contribution to a critique of political economy
Condition of the working class in England
Family, Private Property, The State
But these mostly sound like the primary sources, or the writings of Marx himself. I'm sure I'll prolly read them at some point but I'm after literature that discusses these theories critically
Why do Muslims (I see it in Turkish news all the time) appropriate the explicitly Christian term "martyr", which absolutely excludes people who die in combat, and apply it to people who die in combat? I'm not trying to shit on Islam or anything, but this really rustles my jimmies. You can't be a martyr if you die in the act of killing people, full stop.
In Arabic, a martyr is termed Shahid. Shahid appears in the Quran in a variety of contexts, including witnessing to righteousness, witnessing a financial transaction and being killed, even in an accident as long as it doesn't happen with the intention to commit a sin, when they are believed to remain alive making them witnesses over worldly events without taking part in them anymore (Quran 3:140). The word also appears with these various meanings in the hadith, the sayings of Muhammad. The Greek origin of the word...

Is South Asia geographically prone to being invaded by people from the west or was there some other reason they were historically conquered by foreigners so often?
What caused the rampant homophobia and misogyny so prevalent in Jamaican culture ( especially in dancehall music ) not seen elsewhere?
Is it wrong to enjoy work featuring homophobic and misogynistic lyrics while advocating feminism and LGBT+ rights? ( I wouldn't spend a dollar on it though. )
>asking a question is being a whiny bitch
This is also really relevant to another question I have:
Dancehall music frequently is very... sensual and flamboyant, all the while being against that. Why is this?
Buju is the best.
Funnily enough, The Guardian says that enjoying Dancehall (which everyone should) is probably the best predictor of hating gays in Jamaica which is hilarious (source: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jun/06/jamaica-music-anti-gay-dancehall-homophobia )
I don't know what the real cause is but Africans are some of the most statistically homophobic people on the planet and it would surprise me if Jamaica's experience with the subject isn't linked to whatever causes it in Africa as well.
Out of Africa or multi-regional theory?
>Out of Africa theory
Idiots latching on to studies surrounding Y-chromosome DNA and mitochondrial DNA, which is an incredibly small amount of human genetics.
Not to mention they ignore recently unearthed remains of human ancestors that date back to 100,000+ years ago outside the African continent.
Can we have a discussion about art?
Do you consider paintings like this to be artistic? Where do you draw the line between art and no-art?
I believe that art doesn't necessarily have to be beautiful or aesthetically pleasing, but it has to elicit at least some kind of reaction from the viewer.
>I believe that art doesn't necessarily have to be beautiful or aesthetically pleasing, but it has to elicit at least some kind of reaction from the viewer.
Literally everything in the world elicits some kind of reaction, on some scale. Is everything art?
Are these men worthy of reverence or scorn?
