Well, Aristotle more or less invents logic with the organon, so It makes sense for Plato to be very transfixed with mathematics. Since now we do have sophisticated formal logic, I think that probably ought to be sufficient.

Why was the American revolution so much better than most of the other wars of independence in the Americas?

In Mexico you have both Miguel Hidalgo and Jose Morels being betrayed and executed. Further south you have Sucre betrayed and suspicions around Bolivar's death.

It just seems the Latin American nations had a lot more Benedict Arnolds going on than the yanks.

Is Anarcho-Marxism the only plausible form of anarchism where things might actually work out?

Other forms of anarchism (anarcho-capitalism, anarcho-mutualism, anarcho-syndacalism, etc.) rely on everyone following a set ideology in order to prevent anarchism from collapsing into coercive statism and a state like entity filling the power vacuum to exploit others.

Marx's anarchist communism supposes that anarchy is only possible when the material conditions have changed, and there is enough surplus to satisfy everyone. This prevents the need of an ideology to...

As far as I'm concerned, the only successful forms of these ideologies which I have seen, which didn't result in mass death and authoritarianism, (it seems anarchocommunism is a bit of a contradiction, considering that communism seeks to abolish the state) was anarcho syndicalism amongst the Zapistas and the Spanish during the 30s.

Aside from that, I can't really say.

So, this might not be the best place to ask this question but... well, I'm a law student, and I'm writing an essay on blood donation by homossexual men. The thing is, I'm supposed to be against it, and my teacher is absolutely obsessed with comparative law. So I was wondering if you guys would have some material on the subject. I wish I knew where to find law cases from different countries regarding this subject, but I don't even know where to start.

How come American blacks never show any interest in their West and Central African roots?

When American blacks talk about Africa, they always reference East Africa, i.e. the Swahili language or Emperor Haile Selassie.

Most American blacks originated from West or Central African tribes, but they rarely ever talk about those parts of Africa.

Wut?

up until the 18th century religion had been the main justification to wage war against another country (crusades, jihads, protestants vs catholics, sunni vs shia). but when imperialism hit its stride it became more about spreading your cultural identity or obtaining resources (from other cultures who did not "deserve" them) religion still played a role yes but it more to the side compared to the former two.

thats what i meant sorry if it was worded poorly

Because until recently the two concepts were indistinct? OUR religion, is part of OUR culture, which defines OUR nation.

A thread for religious discussion, without shitposting.
To start off, I would like to advance a theory on the shift between the Old Testament and New as a shift from a primarily oral tradition to a more literary one. Using Ong's work Orality and Literacy, I think this explains perceived inconsistencies between the characterization of God in the books. I will be drawing from his third chapter, "Some Pschodynamics of Orality".
Without delving into the matter more thoroughly, Ong illustrates the additive feature of oral epic forms by using the example of Genesis....

If the books of the OT were an oral tradition wouldn't they be epic poems like the Iliad or Gilgamesh? Correct me if they are actually very similar to epic poems. I'm sure they incorporated oral traditions but I get the impression that the books of the OT, especially Samuel, Kings and Chronicles were originally literary works
>>
>>1834334
I think they were an oral form partially distinct from epic, in which law codes, history, and restrictions were also carried down. My academic focus is normally on Asian religious traditions, so I'm not too well versed on the Old Testament. This idea was something I thought of after reading Ong's book.
The mannerisms in the text (It's additive nature, agonsiticsm, situational, and slight redundancies) correspond with ways oral performance operates, which led me to my perhaps over-generalization that...
