Many people believe Roosevelt knew the Japanese were about to attack Pearl Harbor, but left them do it in order to manipulate the american opinion.
This conspiracy theory always seemed incredibly stupid to me, since th USA are automatically at war with Japan after the attack, there was no need to sacrifice the entier fleet, the USA could have repulsed the attacks, they would still be at war.

So why so many people believe in that shitty theory ?
65 replies and 7 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
I don't even know where the theory got off. Roosevelt knew a Japanese attack was coming, but thought it would most likely come in the Phillipines or some Eastern territory. No one could have guessed or thought the Japanese even COULD touch Pearl Harbor.

Bump.
>>
>>1795453

Some saw the carriers being absent from the attack as being a bit too convenient, implying the BBs were sacrificed. That, the delayed telegraph, and the confrontation made inevitable by our embargo all wound up to support the conspiracy.

Would a modern day society be able to totally mobilize for war WW2 style?

I don't think so, the global economic supply chains have become too interconnected and most western countries have outsourced their heavy industry, and the population would begin to riot once consumer good production is sacrificed to the war effort. I think China is the only country where it would be possible.

Multiculturalism is a big issue too. America is not cohesive any more. The American identity has been thoroughly deconstructed and most people out of flyover country consider being "an American" passe and only view the united states through the material wealth it provides them. Can you imagine Ahmed, Pablo, and Chang lining in up in droves to volunteer for a war effort? They have no connection to this country other than the money making opportunities it affords them and would fuck off the moment SHTF.

The hard problem of consciousness is not a question of what consciousness is (as an emergent biological phenomenon reducible to this or that understanding of the brain), but that it is (that these processes give rise to living, feeling presence).

The "living, feeling presence" is merely an "emergent biological phenomenon". The human mind is a creative imagining tool to aid in survival, turned self-aware.

There's no "merely", merely is a meaningless word, my joy or anger is not "merely" this is that mechanistic process, because A) my brain chemistry is simultaneous with my emotions and B) my feeling of joy is irreducible, there is no objective network of processes that is actually "really" my joy, my joy is found only in itself, nowhere else.

There's no why question being posed, only a distinction posited between the objective, mechanistic ground and the qualitative, subjective...

Why did Americans fight so badly in WW2?
They literally zerg-rushed the outnumbered and inexperienced reserve German troops yet it still took them almost a year and they suffered several reverses in the process, getting humiliated many times by a numerically and qualitatively inferior enemy.

They fought starved and badly equipped Japanese and still suffered numerous reverses and it took them several years despite having massive superiority in every area.

What the fuck is the Book of Revelation?

Why is it even considered part of the New Testament? It reads like one of the apocrypha: it is too fantastical and too bizarre, and whatever message it attempted to convey is so vague (to all except those who understood the context, presumably) so as to render it useless, even for theological purposes.

"Christianity" is the result of Constantine declaring by government fiat that the hundreds of minor Christ cults were to be unified into one single orthodoxy. Plenty of shit doesn't make sense and is contradictory because in the original Christ cult it came from it wasn't but it DID conflict with other Christ cults. It doesn't make sense because there is no sense to it, it's political fuckery for the sake of power grabs.

Be thankful Constantine had the good sense to stop groups like the Sethians or whatever group used the Gospel of Eve from getting a seat at the discussion table. "Vague anti-Roman propaganda purposefully made esoteric to get around censorishp about the Jews striking back at the evil anti-semitic roman bastids" is nothing to eating semen or the snake from genesis being Jesus.

The problem is that an Axis victory in WW2 probably isn't a total victory and occupation of the major Allied powers the way that the Allied victory happened. You'd probably see German hegemony in Europe, but the full German takeover of places like the UK, let alone the U.S., is pretty fanciful.

Thomas Aquinas said that Avicenna posited an intermediary creator, between the most high God and creation. The most high God was so transcendent that he had to create the world through an intermediary to preserve his transcendency.

Is this an Islamic doctrine or a Platonic and Gnostic one?

Again according to Aquinas, Avicebron said that everything that exist is composed of the same substance, even heaven and the angels (and, it is implied, God himself). There's not really generation and corruption, only alterations of this same substance.

this is simple totalitarian logic

Biblical revelation was a reaction against the pagan cosmic order, where man was a finite being at the mercy of infinitely destructive forces and death was eternal.

What atheists don't understand is that the Resurrection was supposed to be absurd, impossible, it was supposed to violate all that we consider "rational", "necessary" and "logical" and precisely for that reason is why it happened. Christ overthrew the "well, that's just how things are" for the "this is how they should be", the is for the ought.

The great Indo-European mythos, from which Western culture sprang, was chiefly one of sacrifice: it understood the cosmos as a closed system, a finite totality, within which gods and mortals alike occupied places determined by fate. And this totality was, of necessity, an economy, a cycle of creation and destruction, oscillating...
