What is /his/'s thoughts on Monty's Folly? Was it a brilliant plan that almost succeeded? Or was it fatally flawed from the beginning?

My opinion is that while it's tactical objective (XXX Corps getting a foothold over the Rhine) was itself absolutely achievable, it's strategic goal (pushing out of the Netherlands and into the Ruhr and causing Nazi Germany's collapse by December) was not.

Even if 1st Airborne had successfully held Arnhem bridge until relieved or XXX Corps and the Polish Airborne successfully retook the Bridge and the city...

How do we get from Judaism to Christianity?

What practices done in synagogues are carried over to the churches of christianity? The Apostles supposedly started out the modern day churches but the successions are not fully exact as we are told, for if they were, they would at least pronounce "Jesus" the way He was called.

Anyways, there is the common link of Christ in Old Testament prophecies and New Testament teachings, and how it is a religion that traces it's roots to Abraham also, but what exactly is being carried over? Synagogue and Kabalah...

Are centrally-planned economies the best way to industrialize a poor country?
74 replies and 14 images submitted. Click here to view.

>>1720545

Yes and no.

I'd argue state capitalism is better. I mean compared to the great leap foward, when China institutionalized state capitalism in the 1980's they industrialized quite a bit more than they did in the pure Marxist era.
>>
no, but they are good at taking credit for it
>>
>>1720545

1. CENTRAL PLANNING IS THE BEST WAY TO IMPROVE AND STABILIZE AN ECONOMY; INDUSTRIALIZATION IS NOT NECESSARILY MORE FEASIBLE UNDER A CENTRALLY PLANNED ECONOMY, BUT IT IS EASIER.

2. INDUSTRIALIZATION DOES NOT NECESSARILY ENTAIL LESS "POOR" PEOPLE, OR HIGHER QUALITY OF LIFE; IT IS USUALLY THE OPPOSITE, BUT THAT IS BECAUSE OF THE KIND OF INDUSTRIALIZATION, AND OTHER SOCIOPOLITICAL, AND SOCIOECONOMIC, FACTORS, NOT BECAUSE OF INDUSTRIALIZATION ITSELF.

No it didn't. That etymology was pushed by German autism in 19th century.

In reality those are linguistic false friends. Slave comes from Latin "clavis" meaning "key". Late latin "eclavus" from which "slave" is directly derived meant "captive", i.e. someone locked up.

Slavs on the other hand come from Greek rendition of Slov(i)ane, the name which Slavs call themselves. Slov(i)ane comes from "slovo" meaning "word". Thus Slavs...

What if that leyend of the Aztecs that said Cortes and his men were the return of that god with white skin that visited them hundreds of years ago is refererring to another europeans like the Vikings that were there hundreds before Cortes???

How come so many people in the past were so brutal, primitive and violent, despite so many religions preaching stuff like kindness, good manners and morality in general? It seems odd, considering humans had more honest religious feelings back then. I mean today we have more skeptical approach in terms of religion because we have concrete evidence to prove it wrong. But people in the past honestly, unquestionably believed God created everything, afterlife exists and that they will be ultimately judged for their earthly actions.

Are humans simply unable of applying virtue...

I have no scientific basis for my idea. But I think it is because people where more desensitized in one sense, as they would kill animals to eat etc, and this then made it easier to kill humans. Also it was easier to de-humanise the enemy as really they didn't know anything about them, today we have media, TV, internet, we know that the other countries are not all complete retards/evil, but back then it would have been just a scary bunch of other people, who spoke some strange language, who wanted to kill you so you killed them....just like you killed chickens pigs or cows.

What made Judaism so unique as a religion? They have plenty in common with contemporary religions, sure (animal sacrifice, sacred priesthood, ornate worship, etc.), but I mean in the extremely unique factors. Such as absolute animosity toward worship of any god but YHWH and absolute animosity toward his depiction. Even more strange, when religion was generally just a set of folk beliefs and realized in a few rituals, Judaism was not based on folk rituals, it was highly centralized with just *one* temple for the whole nation.
