>that house of God we just built is beautiful but I feel it's missing something
>I have an idea let's decorate the roofs with statues of demons, devils and pagan figures
What did the early medieval mean by gargoyles?
I'm rather stumped on what to buy as far as educating myself on the whole of Russia. I want to have something brief/short and something relatively enjoyable to read.
If you have a selection that fits this criteria please post it here.
Who was the meanest guy in history?
What does God look like?
Is he right, /his/?
Hardcore Celtic shit ITT.
How aware were people living in early agricultural communities of their hunter gatherer roots?
Depending on the community, if they had a rudimentary system of writing or had stuff to paint on they most likely had some records still around. In addition hunters would still be a necessity in early agricultural communities, as to meet the demand of short term foodstuffs.
>implying they don't look better painted
That is the 'better paintjob'.
These are the trace colors that survived, so a lot of articles show it as what the statues 'really looked like'. Most people that study it though think that these are just the base colors that were painted over in other layers for shading and such.
The first picture is what the statue likely looked like.
>implying they don't look better photoshopped
When the russians scorched their own land, did they do this with the consent of their peasants and relocate them to somewhere else?
Or did they just leave them to their own luck?
>consent of their peasants
Using the historical method there's no instance of medieval russia (large generalization, but all those divided mongol vassal states or the free one's to the north west) to enlightenment era Russia having nobles or their relative term asking peasants for permission for anything
I don't have the numbers but I'd reckon a majority of peasants were serfs whose land was owned by some higher official
Why do prodies think that Catholics going to church on Sundays is considered wrong?
>not tonight Josephine
What did he mean by this?
Find a picture with more talent
I don't get it.
>Making a last effort, Charles formed a new army and arrived in the dead of winter before the walls of Nancy. Having lost many of his troops through the severe cold, it was with only a few thousand men that he met the joint forces of the Lorrainers and the Swiss, who had come to the relief of the town, at the Battle of Nancy (5 January 1477). He himself perished in the fight, his naked and disfigured body being discovered some days afterward frozen into the nearby river. Charles' head had been...

Why did did leftism become anti-nationalist?
I think a successful Nationalist nation would eventually move leftward financially. You can't have too lefty leaning economic policies when you have parasitic outsiders who will take advantage of them, and put strain upon the natives. The whole left vs right view is massively flawed.
> He thinks you can't be a nationalist without being a dick about it
Left-right is used in two ways: on social stances, and on economic stances.
Nationalist is by default often left in economic sense and right on social issues (ignoring American ''nationalists'').
Why is it that other European languages have dialects that are fairly far apart, but English doesn't? In Italy, Spain, the German-speaking countries, etc. you have so many different dialects that there needs to be a standard register for people to understand one another. Meanwhile an American, a Britbong, and an Australian all basically speak the same way barring minor differences in vocabulary and spelling.
Are continentals just special snowflakes or is something else going on?
This is what Hitler did. History has shown him to be a scandalous tax evading trickster.
>completely write a new, imaginative work
>so succesfull thousands of people love and buy your book
>the government waltzes in and demands HALF the proceeds for none of the work
I'd plot a coup too desu
I have recently read an article stating that a great financial condition and lack of unemployment of the Third Reich were myths. Why? It is stated that jews and women were not included in official data.
Why did old cities have roads like this? Did people build their homes and buildings wherever they wanted and just say "Fuck it"?
>So... did they expect it?
What makes the Spanish decided to do this? Was Jews the main and only target?
How terrible exactly did the Italians perform in World War 1? and why? I noticed that they won more battles than they lost, but they had many humiliating defeats especially at the Isonzo River and when lead by Luigi Cadorna.
Is anxiety, depression, and alienation among the general population higher today and in the last 50 years or so of industrialized civilization than it was in the past, particularly in relation to pre-modern or pre-industrial societies? If so, why is this the case?
real depression ends up with a trip to the psych ward and treatment with transcranial magnetic stimulation or electroshock.
pcps handing out antidepressants to every post menopausal women and edgy somewhat sad teenager shouldn't be taken as evidence that rates of depression are at a sky high never before seen in history level.
There's no real evidence for this. We don;t think of primitive people having the incidents of mental illness we have because among primitive people, the mentally ill are typically kept isolated and housebound, and not talked about because of the shame associated with it.

This is a Ptolemaic map drawn by someone in 1300 based on Ptolemy's writings. How does one create a map based on writings? Isn't it very likely that this is nothing like Ptolemy's original world map?
Ptolemy included coordinates for all the places he covered, and directions on the shapes of coastlines. This is what a Latin translation of the Geographia looks like.
>How does one create a map based on writings?
Geometry. If city A is 100 km from city B and 50km from city C, and city B is 70km from city C, there are exactly two places city C can be relative to A and B. This drops to one places once you include more details, like the general direction or another reference point. Capturing precise details is obviously harder, but not impossible if the said details are present in the writings.
How did the study of Indo-European languages spawn the concept of the 'Aryan master race'?
This narcissistic cunt.
Why were suits so common in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century?
They were worn by people across most cultures and seemingly very often.
Would you bring back the suit wearing fad /his/

Is psychoanalysis bullshit?
If so, why do so many people take it so seriously?
It is hard to take serious things seriously as you need a real effort or at least talent to do that, the same reason, why people aren't causally discuss abstract math, but always ready for religion debate.
Did the wrong people win WW1?
Why should you never get involved in a land war in Asia?
Why Europeans didn't invented mud buildings? Just imagine being able to build house from a literally nothing instead of damaging ecosystem by destroying forests or spending unjustified amounts of effort and waste lives to dig for quality rocks in caverns. Why not just simply terraform the earth into a comfy habitable structure?
Could we stop WW III from happening ?
"We" have been stopping it from happening for 50+ years.
