Fundamentalists are sometimes horrified when the Virgin Mary is referred to as the Mother of God. However, their reaction often rests upon a misapprehension of not only what this particular title of Mary signifies but also who Jesus was, and what their own theological forebears, the Protestant Reformers, had to say regarding this doctrine.
A woman is a man’s mother either if she carried him in her womb or if she was the woman contributing half of his genetic matter or both. Mary was the mother of Jesus in both of these senses; because she not only carried Jesus in...

>no good logical arguments exist against Nietzsche
>no good arguments against him exist without ad hominem
>le Nietzsche was just a sick weakling with a power fantasy
You all do realize that by making claims such as this, you're basically giving credence to his entire view on human life, right?
You have to despise Nietzsche for being weak, you wouldn't be a Nietzschean if you didn't agree. And talking shit on him for it is perfect evidence that's he's...

For the mystic parts of organized religions (in which the seeker longs for absolute or near-absolute union with the Divine through contemplative, scholastic, ritual or magical means), the controversial heresies stamped out of those religions, the obscure and usually exclusive remnants of the mutated forms of these religions or their forebears, and related posts (hopefully not so broadly extrapolated), or for your own experiences/questions as a prospective mystic/gnostic...

While we're on the subject of Semitic letters, are there any esoteric meanings for the Arabic letters, or the Syriac/Aramaic?
I have no idea about the Mandean alphabet and why it's so significant to them...
It's year 1918 and allied powers won the war and you are in charge of redrawing the borders. Your goals are to achieve lasting peace and prevent the horrors of war ever happening in Europe again.
What do you do?
Chop Germany up into a multitude of smaller states the way you're doing with Austria-Hungary. Breaking it back down to the old HRE electors and Austria (was Austria an elector? Can't remember) and bolster them with financial aid directly to their ruling elite as long as they stay separate.
Worst president? I'm leaning on this crazy fuck or Woodrow "the CUck" Wilson
James Buchanan and Franklin Pierce are several orders of magnitude worse than everyone else, with James "naked women make me puke" Buchanan being the worst
>Karl Marx was wrong because he wasn't realistic about human nature
>Karl Marx was wrong because the Soviet Union collapsed
>Marxist theories are useless and referencing them means you're a communist
ITT: Only God-Tier historical movies
historical accuracy BTFO
Corny plot and historical accuracy be damned, I really liked this movie. God-tier soundtrack too.

Based on levels of intrigue, personalities and general interest.
What factors does one consider when making these power rankings? Size of opposing armies/insurgents? Death toll? Glory in victory? Personalities and intrigue don't really seem to cut it.
What set Ethiopia apart in it's unique development from the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa?
It's pretty obvious if you look at the map. Also and unlike somalis they don't live in a desert full of nothing.
ITT: We solve the mind-body problem
>The mind–body problem is the problem of explaining how mental states, events and processes—like beliefs, actions and thinking—are related to the physical states, events and processes, given that the human body is a physical entity and the mind is non-physical.
If you come here and spam neural correlates of consciousness you will be immediately disregarded as an complete ignorant on the subject.
What happened to the idea of building beautiful cities?
pic is Adelaide Grand Central Hotel demolished for a multi-storey carpark
Wish I knew, London is becoming oddly shaped glass and steel.
I wouldn't object so much if the first 5-6 stories were designed in a more 'conservative' fashion, I want cherubs, naked ladies, strange faces, all that cool 17-19th century stuff.
Instead I get a building that melts cars
>not even on purpose
Yeah, there's something depressing about the idea that although we've progressed in so many areas (poverty, disease, etc) we've somehow regressed on city aesthetics and architecture
Why is African history so underrepresented in the field?
What are red flags that instantly turn you off from debating with a person?
For me it's moving the goalpost, it just shows to me that the person isn't mature enough to handle a proper argument.
There's no redflag to not debeating a person.
If you refuse to debate, then your opponent is right. If you really think the person is stupid, you should be even more lean to debeating him. If he's so dumb, how come you can't debeat him?
The moment they start spewing buzzwords or immediately place themselves on an unassailable pedestal.
"How could you think that way, it's 2015!"
"What's wrong with you? Don't you like logic and reason?"
"We need equity not equality."
