Are there any historical equivalents to /r9k/? I don't just mean communities of people who just didn't fit in, but ones that actually rejected fitting in, who would cast aspersions on people who were too "normal". I can't really imagine something like that existing without the internet, but on the other hand, all the internet is is a medium, and that those people must have existed in the past.

I wish I knew because I fucking hate people who make everything about politics, but almost everything does have some connection to politics so it's actually a valid way to approach things. What could have been done to keep the central american federation, gran colombia, peruvian-bolivian confederation alive? Were they meant to come apart regardless?

anyway, these confederations maybe could survive if they had a major group with the economic power to keep these countries bonded, like happened in the argentine confederation.

Independence was absolutely not a mistake because the Spaniards were already in stage 4 cultural cancer at that point.

A lot of mistakes were made afterwards, notably those stupid wars between the southern cone and the middle bulge, but those conflicts were not inevitable.

Anyone have a link to the theory there was man somewhere in the Asian area who is responsible for almost all, if not a huge part of our DNA.

Not Ghengis Khan, this man was thought to be a fisherman who lived in a port somewhere in Taiwan, if I remember correctly anyway.

I am pretty sure it was a pop-science article but I read it years ago and has been on my mind ever since.

Will nihilism be our downfall? Are we suited to be so aware of not only ourselves, but also the world around us? Will our spectacular awareness, unique in the fauna of this planet, ultimately be rejected by natural selection?

Are we seriously tempted by immortality, or is that just what we think we want? Will our technology go so far as to turn us into living but apathetic blobs, for centuries immortals, but then suicidal?

>Will nihilism be our downfall?
You don't understand it's ideal. Nihilism is a tool to stress test your ideologies. If it passes the nihilistic test then your ideology is sound.

Why the fuck do you retards think it's all about everything being pointless, use your brain, not just your eyes.

That's totally subjective to you. You have to search for the answers yourself, giving up is not nihilism, it's a tool to better yourself and pick out which really matters to you.

13 KB,
Could Penal/Punishment battalions work like they did back in World War 2, or when the French had them in the 19th century? Why get rid of soldiers with their silly convictions when they still have use to serving the country? Hitler's infamous 36th Waffen Grenadier Division was made up of poachers with plenty of marksmenship early on, and hell although when in desperation they used bigger criminals they still had no problem brutally defeating the enemy.

Yeah.

Taking criminals and intentionally giving them military training and guns is generally a retarded idea. The Nazis tried it at least once, however, mostly out of desperation....with horrifying results.
>>
>>1537442
Well we needed penal batallions back then because we needed the manpower, whereas in modern war manpower is almost irrelevant. A single pimple faced retard remotely controlling a Predator drone can do more damage than entire batallions from the 1850s.

Why? There obviously is some underlying need in modern society(from the enlightenment forward) for the removal of agency from reality.

If you want to view it that way then technicly any country that wasn't roman/byzantine empire, the caliphates and persia wass pretty backward in comparison up until 1400ish.
>>
Yes. They were a race of brutes (in)famous for their fighting prowess and savagery. Germanics owe everything to Rome, but they took to Roman culture and technology better than any other race on Earth. There were innumerable cultures exposed to Roman civilization, some even ruled directly by them, yet it was the backward, savage Germans living on the outskirts of the Empire that ended up ruling the earth in the end.

The picture seems to suggest that, in comparison with the Astecs in 400 AD, the Germans were relatively backward, at least in terms of urban infrastructure. Assuming the picture is an accurate depiction of reality.

yes, now that the world is as small as it is.

with a trip from New York to London brought from a 1 month journey to a 7 hour flight, the speed of communication and travel is naturally going to make globalization a profitable choice in nearly any situation, while remaining isolated in this day in age is nothing short of self-destructive for a nation as most of the world depends on trade and commerce to keep the economy rolling.
