If nuclear bombs didn't exist, would Soviet Union try to do world domination and form Socialist World Republic?
Probably not, or at least not going much further than wishful thinking about it.
The "West", i.e. U.S., UK, France, and other aligned countries had way more population and industrial weight behind them than the Soviets did. If nukes never existed, what you'd see is a much larger western military presence in Europe and other areas that they thought the USSR might try to muscle in on.
The existence of nuclear bomb has nothing to do with the stalinist theory of "socialism in only one country", which has been formulated by Stalin in 1924. The orders of the Komintern to its sections outside of USSR always aimed since Stalin took power to deter revolutionnary impulses around the world.
Was he a patriot or a traitor?
Did the Battle of Poitiers save european culture?
The more I read about religion, the more I think he was right with this.
All theological disagreements are at the essence metaphysical, and religious beliefs are eventually described in a metaphysical system.
This desu. If you actually delve into it there's reasons for everything done in religion, but uncritical fedoratards and bible bumpers fail to realise this and instead just think religion is a set of rules or something that you're "born" with.
It's really a shame, because there's a lot to be taken from proper, introspective spiritual practice.
desu i don't think it should be made popular; those who can figure it out themselves will while the others can engage each other in their squabbles, where some dumb theologian will try to seek for proof of his texts in modern science or the opposite where a fedoratheist will try to use positivism for... inserting a banana into his asshole
Were the 50s - 90s some of the greatest decades in human history, in terms of what was accomplished relative to the time frame?
Never before has such a short time period caused such a massive production and output of scientific development, cultural, artistic, and social merit, never before seen.
Just think back to what we as a race accomplished within those 50 years.
Thomas Piketty's Capital.
Basically, the post-World War II boom caused a spike in productivity that will never be equaled until we change an economy to one that doesn't reward death by giving the overall growth of the rate of capital a lower increase than the average return on investment.
What does /his/ think of Parsis and Zoroastrians?
This might be due to its status as a minority religion but I like its simplicity. "Good thoughts, good deeds, good words", no bullshit sectarianism like in Islam or Christianity.
Immigrant Parsis are kinda dumb for not accepting converts tho, considering how it dates back to a deal they made with the king of Bombay.
Zurvanism is interesting. It was basically an attempt to rationalize the original Zoroastrian creation myth, and why both good and evil exist in the first place.
>The "classic" Zurvanite model of creation, preserved only by non-Zoroastrian sources, proceeds as follows: In the beginning, the great God Zurvan existed alone. Desiring offspring that would create 'heaven and hell and everything in between,' Zurvan sacrificed for a thousand years. Towards the end of this period, androgyne Zurvan began to doubt the efficacy of sacrifice...

Is it coincidence that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were cities with the most Christian population?
How do you define ethnicity?
What do you do with your memorabilia? I have a lot of gifts / awards / things like pic related and it's not like I'm ever going to use any of them. Not just contemporary things, but also cavalry sabres, muskets, etc. that I didn't buy -- they just fell into my hands. That kind of thing.

What if Lee had won Gettysburg and taken Washington DC?
Would that have made the Union surrender?
How feasible was it?
The Union would have had a crippling loss of morale. There would have been rallies for a peace deal with the South, they probably would give up Maryland, West Virginia and Kentucky as well as some Western states in return for a peace deal.
>What if Lee had won Gettysburg and taken Washington DC?
Are you retarded? A victory in Pennsylvania wouldn't destroy the garrison in D.C. or give the Confederates the logistical ability to settle in for a siege.
>How feasible was it?
A victory in Gettysburg? Certainly feasible. Leading to a total Union collapse and the fall of D.C.? Not feasible at all.
It would've done a great deal of damage to Union morale though, which was already low enough. In all honesty though, I think it would've been better if the South stuck to a defensive strategy rather than risk the invasion.
What is your favorite country, past or present, either because of its history or what it is currently. Pic unrelated.
To answer the question though, The United States of America. Freedom is the only way
What a disgusting rendition of the flag
Pic related is beyond better
There is no such thing as a truly selfless act.
Whenever you commit some act of charity, you do so in order to give yourself some level of psychological satisfaction - to provide yourself with your own "happy ending". In this sense all of human nature is based on an irresistible urge to benefit the self. Even Suicide is a selfish act; when the japanese suicide bombers of World War II steered their planes into american ships they were not truly doing it for the emperors glory, but to satisfy their own desire to have lived a worthy life in the eyes of their peers. Pure greed.
>Turkey is destroyed by Europeans in the first Balkan War
>Turkey is destroyed by Arabs and Brits in WW1
>By 1919 Turkey is surrounded by Greeks, Armenians, Brits and Frenchmen on all fronts
>Basically reduced to Ankara
>Still managed to come back and murder 500,000 innocent civilians
What went wrong /his/? How did Europe allow this to happen? Why didn't Bulgaria just walk in and take Instanbul?
The Anglos might give the Turks a few slaps every now and then, but they will never take care of the problem. Why? Not only would the Arabs have self-rule, but Russia and Persia would put the area under their influence. Think of the fame Russia would have if they took back Constantinople.
Britain is essentially the kid with all the toys who cries when kids get other toys. As such, Britain keeps the Turks in power to insure that Russia and other countries don't disrupt the balance of power. Genocide and tyranny...

That's what always happens with wars like these. People rally up, get highly motivated and push back.
A lot of people really underestimate the feeling of "no turning back, nothing to lose" and how excellent of a call to arms it is.
What are the Semitic languages? Are they all descended from proto-Jews?
