What are the most scientifically inexplicable points of novelty in history?

Pic related. I still find it hard to believe I grew up only 200 miles from the location where the world came closest to ending, and was at one point only averted because the captain of a Navy cruiser decided to follow his gut and not start a war over a suspicious bogey that showed up on the radar. I'm just curious, was there ever a time where were people as actively and as massively seeking out loneliness/avoiding human contact, as it is now? I think we all realize the causes, but what can be the consequences of this?

Sure there have always been hermits, friend.

However most of them were religious/spiritual people influenced by a calling that made them seek isolation to conduct their studies and not your average aspergers tard today rotting away his brain.

I think one of the main issues is that we are becoming way "too social" and need to take the Finland approach against this bullshit so they can have the healthy kind of autism.
>>
>>1967275
But hermits were 0,2%. Now it is normal every day matter to avoid people.

The main issue is social networks, urbanization, human contact not being necessary anymore etc. I am just wondering what will be the effects this can have on society?

I'm reading about the Punic Wars, and I have a question: why didn't the Mamertine mercenaries accept the protection of Carthage and turn to Rome?

I don't get it: they literally asked either Rome or Carthage to protect them from the Syracusans. Carthage offered to help them first, but the Mamertines refused the offer (despite having asked) and then went to the Romans to ask for their help, even though Carthage could have given them said help well enough.

Yes, the Mamertines were Italians. But then, why even ask Carthage for protection in the first place, if they were going to refuse it?

I get that. The Romans only helped the Mamertines because it would give them an excuse to intervene in Sicily and would potentially allow them to counter Carthaginian influence in an area they thought their own...

Conquest was replaced with pestilience since pop culture is too pants on head retarded to understand how imperialism is a bad thing.

Whilst war represents slaughter, perhaps edging on mindless, Conauest is the dominion of nations over others, perhaps not necessarily through that much bloodshed.

Conquest is when the men of the earth turn against each other and covet the other's arbitrary lines in the dirt. War is when they wish to slaughter the other for no end but to shed his blood.

But all...

Incompetent in the extreme. Quite frnakly, it's a bit amazing he got as far as he did.

Closer to what it was like in the late 20s and early 30s. The KMT only directly controlling a corridor running roughly from Chengdu to Shanghai, and the rest of the country under the control of various warlords with their own powerbases, who would pay him tribute as long as they were disunited. Sooner or later the unstable power base would fracture and China would be in for another round of warlordism.

I ask "why bad" instead of "why good" because it leads me to discard most of what is said on this subreddit as pointless, so Im asking why I would be wrong.

The Munchhausen Trilemma [1] really crystallised what I thought about philosophy already. So many philosophical conclusions depend on the initial axioms, yet nobody can prove the axioms (unless they use other axioms but those need to be proved and so on). This is what I believe and it leads...
