Thoughts on this country? How could a country with a modern-day population of 8.4 million (probably ~2million in the actual duchy of austria region) conquer such vast tracts of land and become one of the most unique empires in history?
They were a union of two developed powers in feudal ages, Hungary and Austria. Spain and France had an royal marriage union too, however, the fear of they becoming too strong made all of europe start a war to make them two countrys again.
I'll just leave this here:
>"Bella gerant alii, tu felix Austria nube
>Nam quae Mars aliis, dat tibi diva Venus"
>"Others may wage wars, you happy Austria marry
>What Mars gives others, the divine Venus gives to you"
Just because the Austrians were egomaniacal jackasses who couldn't function according to their own law.
Shouldn't have illegally invaded Hungary and encouraged internal conflict within the empire.
The sexiest empire the world has ever seen before they took Bosnia.
It just looks big on a map. Their "empire" consisted of the personal property of the Hapsburgs, and was made up of a hundred different ethnicities that hated eachother. You can see how well that worked out.
