>>2294204 Design language seems to be really consistent across all designs- if this is what You were going for, then good job. If You asked me, I don't really like that design too much, don't ask me to elaborate though- I find design to be very difficult to discuss, since there is no mathematical formula (the closest You can get is 25% of the form should be busy and rest should let Your eye rest, but I never cared for that rule either). Presentation wise- Your perspective seems to be correct for the most time, however... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Can you guys give me some of the best sources for learning how to paint with tempera? It is much cheaper and much faster to work than with oil, so I was thinking in learning firstly how to handle this material. I also know that one can achieve great results with it, for the unfinished paintings of Michelangelo and above all his Tondo Doni are sublime. His Tondo Doni is, in my view, superior to any of Leonardo Madonna’s.
So, can you guys give some books and websites about it (tempera painting; tempera color mixing, etc.)?
In return, I will offer one of the... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Beginner figure drawing questions: I'm trying to understand construction better, and have been reading Hampton's book on figure drawing. I have some question: 1) How does the gesture drawing work? He emphasizes that this should not be trying to capture a likeness, but rather be an exercise in moving the eye. But then I end up erasing like half of it then when I actually do attempt to draw a likeness. 2) I'm kind of stuck on what to do after I get the basic shapes down, and I start reverting back to just drawing contour lines. Any tips to avoid this? 3)... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
There's recently been some dude on Youtube who's been uploading informational videos about 15-16th century armour and demonstrates how he puts it on and how he moves around in it. It's a really good reference for how armour works in 3D space! He also touches on the history of some of the armour he wears and the practical purposes for it all. I feel it's really important it understand how armour really works on the body and why it's made the way it is for people who want to learn how to draw it convincingly, as most people just want to draw cool, yet... Rules: -Do not rate or give critiques unless if the artist specifically requests it. -If someone is RUDE tell them to not expect much from an hour's work. -Posting WIP's, studies, "doodles", and random sketches are highly encouraged. -The art must be fresh. Like you just drew it in the past hour.
>>2293842 Yes, it is. Actually having a model in a three-dimensional space makes a huge difference. Whenever I attand croquis/life-drawing, the methods I use at the computer all dissapear, and I draw in an entirely different way. It may just be me, but I'd say that it's different.
