Seeing as I have the skill level of -10/10 Where in the world do I start? Along with drawabox, what should I be doing to go from not being able to draw a damn thing, to being able to do realistic character art?
Numerous people have said to avoid the sticky so thats what I am doing. And read the Loomis books. Proko, I can't stand his cringeworthy humor. And Robertson seemingly has an extreme hardon for mechs. So what should I do aside from drawabox?
>>2396357 Because that's their dynamic. Ricky doesn't actually care what Karl says, and often Karl says things that aren't stupid, but are only said in a profoundly stupid way and Ricky will still bust his balls for it.
But this was like a real conversation, and it's not like Ricky rejects reasonable things Karl say, sometimes he even agrees with him. I just didn't know if there was just some sort of consensus about L. S. Lowry among sophisticated English people that would make them disdain him, something that would be common knowledge to English people but go over American's heads.
>>2396291 >cannot afford paper and pencils >tablet Of course you can. You will lose mobility though, at some point this will be important to just walk around and draw people, cars, wildlife, whatever your premises can offer.
As for painting, I heard about guy who printed chink render, applied some sort of transparent oil on top and it was looking like it was painted with traditional tools
>simply because I dont have money to buy pencils and other shit
So blowing a few hundred dollars on a tablet is affordable but spending basically 10 cents per pencil and probably cheaper per sheet of printing paper is unreasonable? You don't need to get fucking high end sketchbooks and fancy pencils, you can use a goddamn orange school grade HB pencil, paper you put in your damn printer that they sell for peanuts, and a bic ball point pen. If you don't want to draw on paper just say so but don't cite cost as an excuse. Drawing can be an incredibly inexpensive hobby if you buy basic materials.
Anyway, yes, you can learn just find on tablet, but I still recommend you do both.
It is literally not stepping out of your comfort zone. It's a comfortable angle to familiarize yourself with in a way that looks pretty good. It's basically the path of least resistance for making a nice portrait.
If you want to just do 3/4 profiles forever, go for it, but if you actually want to learn how to understand how faces and heads work and be able to work dynamically, not restricted to that angle, yes you need to fix it.

Are there any good tools, tips and tricks to draw digitally for people who don't possess a graphic tablet?
When I make serious drawings I always do them traditionally, on paper, then I scan them and do the lineart on SAI with the lineart curve tool. It takes a long time and it's rather disheartening having to redo something you've already done once but if you're careful it does the job fine. Then I just fill colors and such with my mouse. Needless to say the styles you can do using this method are "somewhat limited" since it has to involve linearts, basic coloring etc, so no painting and so on, but depending on what you want to do it can be alright (such as anime/manga style).
Opinions? Any poorfags like me who does or have done the same thing here?
ITT: we try to come to a consensus on when Dave Rapoza became better than Dan Warren currently is(2016)at art.
My vote goes to this piece which was posted on December 19th 2008.
Yes it's quasi-anime fuckery; but it's reasonably rendered and Dave didn't clusterfuck his focal point into oblivion by overloading the piece with detail(something I don't think I've ever seen Dan not do).
If you disagree or would like to play along and find your own point at which Dave became better than Dan, here's the link to the thread at the page... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
