When doing gesture drawings, what's the most important thing to capture? I'm currently taking a life drawing course, and I'm really struggling with getting something down on paper before the model moves onto the next pose (the model is walking across the room, so the pose is changing constantly), mainly because I don't really know what to do most of the time.
>what's the most important thing to capture? 'the gesture'
Basically the idea is to get a readable mark that tells you exactly what they were doing when you captured it. While there is an art to making really appealing gestures, the appeal isn't the end goal for most. The end goal is usually having an understandable mark that you can build off of later, preferably one that captures (or as some people say, exaggerates / animates) the motion of the pose.
The pictures you showed aren't that appealing, but... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I remember the last time I went to our states modern museum. They have a room for surrealism, and I felt like I needed to shake a layer of dust off my shoulders. Surrealism has had its time. Dalí was a really talented painter but the motif world of the whole movement is just... After that there was the cubism room, as if things couldn't get worse. The things that stood out in their collection was some Matisse and Klee and a few other things, like the Soviet propaganda posters. But my point is, surrealism really is dead and I feel like there isn't much point in discussing it anymore.

I bought a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch in 2011, thinking it would get me drawing again. It didnt, I barely used it in all these years, just ocassionally connecting it twice a year and thats it. Well Ive been trying to get it set up again for some time and it just doesnt work anymore, but I refuse to accept it. How can it just go bad like that? I didnt drop it, I always kept it safe, how can it from one day to another just suddenly not work anymore? Windows 7/8 doesnt recognize it, Wacom drivers dont recognize it, it doesnt lit up anymore when I connect it... I tried 3 different computers, and nothing.
Could it be the cable? Ive tried 3 mini USB cables, all work for my phone, but none with the tablet... do I need a special one? I feel so hopeless, like I cant do anything about it but suck it up...
It's not pc, it's not cable, looks like it really the pad itself. If not for the fact that it doesn't lit up I'd say you would have had a chance, but the this fact makes me think that something critical has happened. Don't know what you're so pissed about, you had 5 years to fully utilize it and while finding that it suddenly broken is upsetting you're really overreacting with hopelessness and stuff.
>>2373012 Yeah Im not blaming Wacom or anything, Im just seeing the use I gave it and I want to hit myself... even more because Im relativelitely poor so I wont be able to afford another one for a while... still Ive got a ton of paper and I know you guys advocate paper over digital for newbies so Im glad theres that!
I just sort of wanted a definitive answer on whether theres any chance of it working or I have to throw it away...
>>2372752 Uh, I think you kind of screwed up the face and maybe the shoulder, the left one is a bit high? But I'm a complete noob and have a very weak grasp of perspective/portions/angles. If it weren't for the other stuff ( hair, armor etc) I wouldn't know it is Guts, judging by only the face Other than that, it's good, GRIFFFIIIIIIITH, Zodd, the details, everything looks nice.
nigger did you even read the book you have to think in 3d and draw in 3d it's a sphere not a wobbly circle. the lines go around the form the jar is a whatever that jar shape is. It's a 3d object connected to the sphere the nose is a wedge the eyes are the incave on the skull and the sphere of the eyeball not 2006 runescape eyes
Just keep drawing man do more perspective and simple shape drawings
>>2372678 >Should I give up? I don't feel like I'm getting it
You do realize how stupid that sounds right? To learn something is to not get it and work until you get it. Sure you can give up, but if you actually want to do it then you need to keep practicing. With drawing you get out what you put in.
