It's always been mostly a joke of a board. It's mostly beginners and trolls. Just stay for the good references and the small handful of people who are serious.

loomis is a meme to a certain point, because he teaches a shortcut way of drawing a head or whatever that, after a certain point you don't honestly need, you just have to wing it and draw after a certain point without relying on a regimented guideline of doing it.
do you think the artist that drew that picture went by the LOOMIS method of head construction? or do they have their own internalized method of doing it combined with just intuition from practice. grinding skulls and hands wont make you a better artist. shouting LOOMIS is not good advice.

What's the fastest way for an intra-personal person (Like myself) to learn art?

I think that they should be pretty fast since getting depressed isn't too much of an issue as it is with other personality types.

Techniques, Artbook recommendation, etc. Just ideas and such that would help intra-personals progress faster.

With that being said by you, I personally think Bacon was a good mark maker, especially with the fact that he would take a lot of risks and do swift singular brush strokes.

What's histories stance on etchings, lithographs, steel engravings, wood prints, etc?

I'm a big fan of collecting them from time to time when I have some extra cash, good quality ones usually cost 200-500 on average, but why have they been so forgotten? It seems while being the most popular way of advertising through image, being included in almost every newspaper or periodical (harpers bazaar in the 19th century or even going further back to Le Moniteur) so why is it so forgotten? They offer a unique perspective or renditions on already famous works with the...

>so why is it so forgotten?
I presume it just has to do with the hierarchy of value that the art world places on things. Oil painting is at the top, and then maybe sculpture is next, and after that you get things like water color and drawings at the bottom. Prints are even lower than that because there are many copies of them so they inherently have less value than a single unique drawing. It doesn't really make sense since why would an oil painting have more value than a water...

Yes I understand that, inflation/overproduction of an object just like pokemon cards can ruin anythings value in the short term, of course looking back on it now there's a wealth of value I see in them. Every artist has a distinct style from their region, the Americas are vastly different from the Europeans as things became more modernized.

I didn't realize that about the japanese prints which is funny since I'm going to Japan next year with my mom and will probably buy a few there of the...

I actually have said book, I got it one Christmas when I first started out. I remember flicking through it a lot as I was learning and there were a few technical tricks I learned here and there but nothing particularly noteworthy. There's practically no emphasis on fundamentals either. Its biggest selling point was some of the artists they had gotten to contribute.

Doing studies from photos is kinda a waste of time.

Other than that, sure. We've had "study threads" in the past, brainstorming exercises would be alright.

Throwing this out there, one guy draws a sketch to convey a concept and another guy takes that and incorporates it (not necessarily directly uses it) into a rendered piece. Perhaps not a finished work, but just a quick 2 hour doodle or something to mess around with.

Plus a tagging system so you don't have multiple people...

Poor value, poor compositional work, poor general concept being badly articulated.

In the picture you've posted, the silhouette isn't enforced by the value at all and the focal work is spotty as hell, relies on typical noodly arm poor dynamism to carry picture.

As for the art style itself, it's simplifying in ugly directions. The circle head doesn't do much for me at all, reminds me of that funko pop shit.

Hey /ic/ im currently studying art in a college and im planning on transfering to an art school .Since tuition is mega expensive here in the US i'm planning on going to Canada, and i was wondering if any of you had some recomendations .Right now im thinking of Syn studio for concept art or Emily Carr school of design for media art

Tldr; Want to transfer to and art school in Canada for Digital art , recomendations please.

What type of art do you want to do? What is your current level at?

As a Canadian I don't really recommend our art schools. From what I have experienced and heard from others they are not all that strong. Also if you are an American coming here I think you would be hit with international tuition fees which are much higher than what we Canadians here pay.

It's probably better for you to focus on the US and either go to an unaccredited school where the costs are cheaper, or focus on getting scholarships.
>>
>>2740514
Hello , thank you for answering , well i think i'm an intermediate beginner, i'd also like to focus on digital art, preferably 3d modeling.

See the problem is that even your most expensive school it's nothing compared to a uni here, for 20,000 I can go to syn studios, that's not much compared to the 162,000 for a career in the art center.
Why would you say its not that good? I've seen anons say that its pretty decent
>>
>>2740760
>i'd also like to focus on digital art, preferably 3d modeling
Maybe try Gnomon then? I've heard pretty good things about it. I don't know the cost, but it certainly will be cheaper than ACCD. A lot of 3d modellers I think are self taught, there seems to be a lot of tutorials and videos online that you can learn from.

I've actually never heard anything about the quality of Syn so can't really say much on it. I think the level of teachers is not as good...

It's not a rule that he's using. He just put the foreground and background in different perspectives so that he could properly show the roof and railing, and also not have buildings behind the character so that his silhouette is against the flatness of the sky and it reads clearly and looks like he is high up.
>>
>>2739879

I thought you had to pick one perspective for a scene and stick to it. I knew about false perspective, but I didn't know you could take it to this extent.

>I had no idea you could do that.
I mean you can do whatever you want in art, even if some people on /ic/ will claim that there are ironclad rules. The fact of the matter is you can do what you want. Whether it will be successful when you break a rule is another thing, but there's nothing stopping you from trying it. As Vilppu says "there are no rules, only tools".

I've never before seen as artist intentionally "break" perspective quite as extreme...
