i heard that smoking cigarettes is a good way to steady your hand for detailed work, is it the nicotine or the other shit in the smoke that gets the job done? also general art hacks thread. things you do to improve your drawing such as substance and or tools.
please mark this thread for deletion if its too of topic.
Smoking cigarettes is a great way to smell bad, waste thousands of dollars a year and destroy your health; it's not good for much else.
You should probably practice instead op (search Dynamic Sketching on youtube). If your hands are still really that shaky after practicing those exercises for several hours every day for 3 months you probably should just learn how to use vectors instead of raster digitally or paint like Pollock instead of Rembrandt
I need some opinions on whether to buy a Wacom cintiq 2nd hand or a surface pro for less money, I want to be able to take which ever anywhere and to be able to stream and draw at the same time. Any opinions are helpful.
>>2369528 It's just simple linework on one layer, painted over on another (though it looks like they did it on paper, so no layers, but the principle is the same). The background is just a simple gradient.
There's nothing there that's particularly advanced.
It looks traditional to me, possibly colored ink with pen linework. If so so, contrary to what >>2369532 said, its pretty advanced because getting a smooth gradient like that in the back ground is very difficult.
>>2369434 Ice your hand, keep it straight, don't use it for a few days. After that, make sure to do your stretches before, during, after drawing sessions. Remember to draw from your elbow and shoulder, never your wrist.
Carpal Tunnel will fuck you up if you don't watch out.
>>2369434 You tell whoever you have to draw for that you can't, and then you relax the fuck out of that hand.
When old people say that young people (In this case, young is not just 15 year olds) think they're immortal, I'm increasingly coming to realize that they don't mean "You're doing stupid dangerous shit" all the time, but also that they frequently don't take care of themselves and end up with injuries. If you draw, don't give yourself Carpal Tunnel, because then you'll... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
Aside from what the others have said about resting, this might also be a good time to re-evaluate your grip. A lot of artists does some weird kind of death grip thing with their pencil and that promotes tension and down the road pain and injury.
>>2369404 good point i agree but also see that one one side even at art schools its a dumbing down of creative free thinkers and in away trapping them into believing that they are free and making forward progress in art meanwhile its actually a degradation to society, but your totally right tho seriously.
>>2369330 "Nobody knows what REAL art is. Art is a noble pursuit meant for people who DESERVE it. I aspire to bring forth a new age for art, and make it respected once again!"
Fuuuck you! Art is not a pinnacle of mankind that has been brought down by heathens, you god damn hipster. It's a medium that has many different varieties, enjoyed by many different people in many different ways.
Anyone have a good source for cheap sketchbooks? I can get 100 page unruled, spiral bound sketchbooks locally for $3.50 USD which is around the same price as the cheapest I could find on eBay (with free shipping.)
Got any cheaper sources? I'm slightly autismo and I'm tempted to buy out the local supply so I'll only ever use the same brand but if I can get a great deal then I'll stock up
