can self teaching be as good as a proper teacher?

answer is yes, you just have to be talented
>>
Fuck no.
>>
It depends on how you use resources and what you consider "self teaching". Using forums, reading, and watching videos is still ultimately the same as a "proper teacher"... and cheaper than teachers.

I just had my birthday and I was offered to either get a ipad pro with the apple pencil or a new stationary pc. I'm torn. On one hand I have done a lot of life studies with my old ipad in procreate and I could use it to do commission work. Or, I could upgrade my old computer that while perfectly adequate for photoshop is pretty shit for 3d which I'm starting to get more interested in. And being able to play new games would be a nice plus, although not too important.
I have a cintiq already.

Obviously it's up to me in the end but I could use someone...

If you're looking at scuplting/modelling, you literally only need a decent CPU, and buying a new rig is retarded. I used to work in zbrush on a fucking atom cpu tablet.

If you want to render, that's a different story.

I'm kinda in the same boat, I really want to get an ipad pro because tablets are a million times more enjoyable for me to draw on, and the pencil is fucking amazing, but I never owned an apple product and I have no idea what ios is like, and the thing is expensive.
Also, I gave up on windows tablets because microsoft ruined the tablet environment.

I think you can return it in 15 days/1 month depending on where you are and where you get it from, so I plan on getting it and returning it if I don't like it.

There's not really a child-like "movement", but there have been a few notable artists that drew in a child-like manner. It's usually the case of lack of development than an intentional choice though. Look up "outsider art" and "naive art".

I am currently investing my time in my webcomic, Mr. Face, which is on my website, woohoopoopoo.com.

The site is down at the temporary moment because there is something funky going on with the servers. No worries there.

I am also working hard on my children's book, which I aim to release by 2020. The book will be called "Further." The writing has small rhymes and descriptive nonrhyming paragraphs. I will be discussing aliens and evolution throughout the book.

Hey OP, can you explain why you don't think it looks good? : )
>>
>>2762734
Not OP, but the artist is getting too caught up small unimportant forms and the technique of outlining the cast shadow and blasting the core shadow. It's a formula that they are poorly applying to an area that doesn't need it, creating a bubbly weird deformed knee for no good reason.
>>
>>2762732
yes they do it for practice, you should try it sometimes

light and value may be fucked, but the anatomy is on point

I am what you'd call "an anime artist". And I want to quit that.

I quit college because I figured out this is what's best for me, and so far two work places rejected my portfolio because I draw anime. Fair enough, although I have a solid understanding of color and anatomy.

But I figured out I don't want to draw anime forever, I want to evolve further to a more semi realistic style and focus on sci-fi.

My questions are:

I'd like to know if you could please recommend any art books/materials to study cyberpunk themed...

By not being involved as an artist at all.
If you were to get serious about art and wanted to make it, you put yourself directly into competition whether you like it or not. You'll have to tear down their dreams or be the one who gets torn down.

Maybe don't spout your beliefs and points of view out of every whole, every second? It's pretty easy to draw the line in the sand, and, when marketing yourself, keep your personal beliefs hidden. Even when you are asked about something, lie so you don't alienate the majority of the audience
