2 MB,
Hello /ic/ could anyone help me create a drawing timetable like this one but help me fit it around my work schedule? I mostly work 9-5 Mon-Fri and the occasional evening where I do some agency work.
Also lets just have a general thread about drawing plans and timetables that you use.

I posted this in another thread but I'll copypaste it since it's relevent here:

Start by taking inventory. Work out how much time you have free to practice in/ how much time your energy will let you practice. Then make a list of all the things you want to practice and rank them in order of what is most important to you. Then set up a routine, it can a one day or multiple day plan. Put the things most important to you first so they will definitely get done, I put creating art as the first thing since there is no point gitting gud if you aren't going to use...

I think you meant to say you rely on a crutch of "trippy" to validate how shit you are without having to confront your lack of ability and improve yourself.

What you posted isn't trippy, it isn't thought provoking, it's astoundingly worse than most stoner art (and most of it is pretty bad). It just looks like so much other beginner shit, but at least those beginners have the decency to admit it's bad because they're bad not because that's what they're "going for"

Sage.
>>
>>2723684
Hmm well seeing how there is only opinion in art and not right or wrong I don't see how most of that makes sense. Sure its not trippy, but my instagram has got psychedelic art on it. I am not sure if you understand the picture I posted; if you do I would love hear it.

Sorry for the somewhat off-topic thread but I really need to know: does drawing/painting actually make you happy?

I'm a NEET who has lost almost all interest in video games and therefore has a lot of time.

As a consequence, I've been browsing 4chan' smaller boards in search of a new hobby and you guys really strike me as depressing folks. In fact, I think only these fags at /r9k/ manage to be more desesperate.

Landscape isn't a fundamental "skill" in the same sense as anatomy and gesture. It's a genre, like portrait and still life.
>>
>>2723669

Anatomy is basically the same if you're talking genres, knowing human anatomy isn't necessarily a "fundamental" skill to art in the sense that lots of others are (IE applicable to basically any piece - knowing human anatomy won't help if you're not drawing a human). I still consider it a fundamental skill though because I like drawing people.

Anyway OP, I consider the fundamental skills this way:

Basic shapes / forms and how to construct from them (this includes being...

pre-renaissance art meaning literally everything before 14th century? or the period before the renaissance (medieval)?

medieval art was "bad" because it moved from the greco-roman focus on concrete outer form to the considerably more abstract christian focus on inner form, and because of eastern influence which was coming from a totally different artistic tradition (also more abstract)

art before that was "bad" for a lot of reasons, for one it was fairly hard to expose yourself to art unless you lived in a city, also there weren't a lot...

Why can't I stop redlining? edition

Post your current drawing here and give constructive critique to others!
Please make sure your posted image is clear, DOWNSIZED TO AROUND 1000 PIXELS WIDE, ROTATED TO THE CORRECT ORIENTATION, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one and then hug a kitten for good luck.

Tuition: 80 percent of tuition covered by 2 scholarship issued by ArtCenter, other 20 covered by part-time job, loans, family helping out.

Term: 1st, in week 5-6.

Major: Illustration

Campus life: people sleep around a lot, everyone is generally extremely nice. You get comfortable relatively fast even if you're shy.

Both campus are really high tech, you can actually "see" where your money is going. With cintiq tablets readily available to check out, expensive free stuff, $700 wheel chairs for working, equipment, workshops with notable people etc.

Living situation: I'm a 5-8 minute walk from the south campus from my apartment. Which is nice because you can just go to campus at night and work on the tablets or empty rooms. You also meet upper terms who are more then happy to
help.

Feel free to ask me anything, so far I'm not regretting going.

I'm taking 5 classes this term. How much work you get per class really depends on your professor. 3 of my classes gave a bunch of assignments from day one while others started out with a decent amount but is slowly packing on the weight.

An example would be my Heads & Hands class. I get 4-5 assignments from that one class alone. Always have to do a painted portrait and hand studies, and the other assignments are usually focus...

back in school i had always been the kid that was into drawing (cartoonish things) and i was pretty good at it, at least when it came to expressing emotions.
for some reason i just kinda stopped drawing almost altogether in my early 20s, so i never really improved past a certain point (i'm 28 now).
i've been watching tons of tutorials about techniques, photoshop tips, etc. just because it still interests me and today i finally picked up a pen again and drew something (i had done so several times in the past, but mostly quick doodles that i deleted right away)

Do you have friends with non-popular artists? Think about why you are friends with them in the first place. Now compare your friendship and try to relate to being friends with a e-celeb artist. Would you suddenly be treated differently?

Would such a friendship only happen because your work is on par with theirs or slightly better? Did the reasons I mention already apply to your current friends? Are you ACTUALLY friends with your current friends or are they people you just talk to daily?

How do you use clothing, furniture, held objects (how things are held) etc etc, to indirectly say show things about a character?
6 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
Short answer:

By using clothing, furniture, objects, etc., etc. that fit the character.

Long answer:

You first have to establish some kind of personality and background of the character before you can make sensible decisions about his or her appearance. -> What, when, where, why, who, how?

-What kind of occupation or role does he/she have?
This establishes basic environment and potential clothing or accessory requirements.

- When was he/she born/raised?
This tells you not just age & possible physical appearance, but also...

Eh, brahz. So I drew this pic a while ago on my phone as I was listening to some songs that made me think of a fishing trip I went on a while back, and I was trying to capture the feeling I had during that trip. I felt this hint of isolation while viewing the beauty of being in the middle of... Idk what it's called. Maybe the ocean I guess since it was connected to it even though there was some land and stuff. Anyways, the pic was supposed to convey a hint of sadness, but just this weird feeling of freedom and isolation from the rest of the world. I was wondering if I did...

I always appreciate when people try to get feelings into their artwork and have it associated with some sort of personal meaning like this.

Honestly though I feel it's not getting across all you are saying. I tried makign a few changes, starting by stretchign it horizontally to get it to feel like mroe of a vast landscape we are in so we sense that isolation coming across more. I also darkened the images a bit and added more fog to get more mood in there. I added a second bit of land on the left to balance...

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

Both of my Intuos'4 broke, and now I'm using my spare Wacom Graphire 3. It's okay but I really don't feel comfortable using this.

I went online and found 2 options that I'd like to look in too:

- Wacom Intuos draw drawing tablet for $50
- Wacom Cintiq Companion II for $1600 or make offer
512GB SSD, 16GB RAM, 5th gen Intel Core i7 processor Windows 7

I wish to know which one would be a better buy?

Get an Intuos Pro or a proper cintiq that you plug into your desktop.

if you go for tablet-monitor there are cheaper alternatives for the same value of components, even at 60% the prize of a wacom with the same specs

think if you really need it portable, the portable quality is not cheap, and if you need it for class (I can't imagine anything else) you can work with a small tablet you already have

get a +18" huion or yiynova with an average laptop or desk pc and you'll save money in comparision of the companion while getting way better tools

What about the yoga book? I mean i know its more of a tablet but is that a viable option for someone wanting to get into digital art?

I like it. I think you should continue to do what you are doing and improve because you have potential.
