How big of a deal is ego with getting better at your art?
I've found that some of the worst artists in my class have some of the biggest egos around and are incredibly touchy if you give any kind of advice, actually, most art students I know are like this to some degree or another.
On the other hand, most professional artists are humble to a sometimes disingenuous degree, I'm not sure how much is genuine humility and how much is just to avoid looking braggadocious.
In my view you have to come to terms with considering your work as mediocre or average... Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
In my opinion, It's not about their ego. It's about their attitude. Everyone has to have some flaws and mistakes. It's unavoidable; no matter how skilled they are. and there's two ways of dealing with this. either work hard to improve, or ignore it. That why most of pros always tries to see criticism as... well, criticism. because their main focus is to improve. not reinforce their feeling about their problem. however, some people just fail to see that. they react emotionally, cuz that's exactly how they convey their flaws.
The more humble (i.e. beta) you are, the easier you take it in the ass when it comes to critique. You git gud in attempt to stop the d/ic/ks blasting your boipussy.
Its really just a way of dealing with it [social experiment]. Either ignore everything or succumb to the mighty d/ic/k (following which you baptise yourself with the sticky and turn into a humble, obedient cumslut). 'Post your work' is also a device used by those who feign ignorance but never get good. Pick your poison
ok im just fucking lazy, ill try to get something done before dragons dogma comes out. cant make promises though, still have very little idea about what update needed means, i want to get dragon up and going, and for that i need the computer parts to work, but some fuck up with them makes them not work even though they are all individually working... bit annoying of an issue.

you don't so much as mindlessly copy references, you construct them with your own knowledge and when you have a hang up you look at your fucking refrence and find out what that hang up is and learn.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Do you have to have a goal to draw? Do you really have to have something like "I want to X" or "become Y" to draw better with time? Do you really have to strive for fame/professional work and can't do it as a hobby long-term?
Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises. Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up.
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

He tells you exactly how to do it over about 5 pages before all the plates. Do you have the pdf or just jpg of the plates? Also helps a lot to print it out and have it next to your drawing rather than looking at it on a screen
I rarely do stuff by hand. Usually only draw sleep deprived and depressed. It's an occasional outlet to dump derangement of thought or something to that effect. Wondering if anyone else does something like this where the point isn't beauty
In all seriousness though, yes, if you put your mind to it and if you're truly passionate about it. If you're a typical nihilist NEET though it's going to be an uphill battle just to cultivate that much.
